Good work, as always! Feel like I need to step up my game. A few other thoughts: I think I would say that while Luna was an extremely talented wrestler (and a very nice lady, believe it or not, I was booked on a show with her in 2003, she was very kind), I think the big shift in women's wrestling in the US was probably Alundra Blayze/Medusa Miceli and Bull Nakano. Fun fact: you mentioned Cutie Suzuki, but the original Master System game we knew as Pro Wrestling (with amazing cover art) was known in Japan as Gokuaku Domei Dump Matsumoto. It was a licensed All Japan Women game featuring joshi legend Dump Matsumoto alongside Bull Nakano, the Jumping Bomb Angels and more! Finally, in answer to your question, I'm not SURE who the woman with Gorilla is, but I've speculated (with others) that it could be Stephanie Wiand. This would be a little weird, since she was more of a show host in the studio or backstage interviewer, and didn't last long in the Federation but the timeframe fits.

Dude, thank you for the awesome comment. I got about 1/2 way down and was like... what? I never knew that about Pro Wrestling on the Master System. Very cool fun fact my friend. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Luna, and I think you may be correct in your assessment of Wiand being the announcer. I would like to confirm so we shall see if I can get a response. I had around 4-5 possibilities and she wasn't even on my radar. Man, I feel like I'm slacking.

I had the Sega version of Royal Rumble as a kid, and can always remember discovering a bug where you could never have a Lex Luger Vs Crush one on one match in the game, it would constantly crash the game. But I did love (and buy all the games) was so excited for Super Wrestlemania as a kid, I imported a US copy and sawed the sides off so it would fir in my PAL SNES. Didn't work though >.> Also, there's some great artifacts for an never included additional character in boh Royal Rumble games (might have been Acclaim's much loved "You" character in WWF games) and the 32X Raw also had Kwang as a final boss.

The female announcer on Raw is supposed to be Stephanie Wiand, who was the co-host for WWF Mania at the time. Kind of a forgotten personality and weird that they put her commentating with Gorilla Monsoon, but I believe I've seen this confirmed elsewhere. Neither Moolah or Sherri were commentators.

This was a great video! I always enjoy comparison videos for games that I either own, or might be looking to get into. Thanks for the care & quality that you put into this, and other videos of yours that I've seen as well. As someone who owns Super Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, and Raw on both Genesis & SNES, it's always interesting to go back and pick up on the little differences & improvements for each successive game. I'm thinking about differences like The Undertaker having a slightly paler skin tone as opposed to the others on the roster on SNES versions, or the steel chair changing colors whenever it's replaced after being bent over someone's skull (also on SNES). I also love the little improvements in WWF Raw, such as CPU controlled partners (which you can take control of anytime by pressing 2 buttons on your gamepad depending on the console), as well as health bars for the tag partners standing on the apron. This is especially useful for Survivor Series matches, so that you don't accidentally tag in someone who ends up having worse health than you do. These are some of the things that I didn't pay too much attention to playing these games for the first time at the age of 11 or 12, but have really come to appreciate as a 38 year-old gamer. Again, thanks for the great video, and I'll be keeping an eye out for future videos as a new subscriber!

A couple of magazine previews for Royal Rumble on SNES showed Kamala as part of the roster. He ended up being cut for unknown reasons, though he would appear in the spin-off Rage in the Cage. One of these previews also mentioned there would be 14 wrestlers in Royal Rumble, but the game we got has 12, so there was an additional unknown wrestler cut.

When AVGN himself James Rolfe "reviewed" the 16-bit WWF games, all he did was bash them for being published by LJN, and claiming that "Vince McMahon should be ashamed for whoring out his product to such inept game designers". Come on, James, like Vince McMahon had time on his hands in 1992-1994 to tell LJN, Flying Edge, and Acclaim what he'd like to see in children's video-games based on his wrestling company. Around the time the 16-bit WWF games came out, Vince had bigger things to worry about, such as the 1994 steroid trial and Jesse Ventura's VHS royalties lawsuit. You see, not *EVERYTHING* that LJN did was bad, and certainly not the 16-bit WWF games or their action figures; those and the ThunderCats toyline were awesome.

The female commentator in the 32X version was Stephanie Wiand. She's a very forgettable part of WWF history and wasn't around very long, but that's who the woman with Gorilla Monsoon is! I really enjoyed this video. I love all of these games and they were a huge part of my childhood and I still fire them up once or twice a year, though at this point it's mostly just RAW on Genesis or 32X (depends on the day) that I devote my time to when I feel the itch. I will say though, that I loved RAW on Game Gear as a kid solely because it was the only version that had Macho Man and Crush. I still can't figure out how they were left out of the console versions!
@Jenovi

I never could understand that either. Always a huge Macho Man fan
@Silanda
@Silanda 2 жыл бұрын
That commentator in the 32X version always reminded me of Steven Tyler for some reason, even though it obviously wasn't. It's kind of strange that Macho was in any version if you think about it. He was gone from the company by the time the game was released, but Vince thought he was too old anyway, so since Raw started Macho had been largely sidelined into a commentary position, and if he did wrestle if was lower down the card. Maybe the devs were fans of the Macho/Crush feud that would probably have been going on while the game was in development.

Luna wasn’t in wwf in 1992 so there was no way she could’ve been in super wrestlemania
@Jenovi
@Jenovi 4 жыл бұрын
I just read back over the interview where she talks about it. I think it may be a mistake on my part. She didn't actually name the game, but stated she was asked to appear in the first WWF game on a Nintendo system. I guess that could have been Wrestlemania for the NES. She had a lot of close friends high up in the WWF at the time. She may also be mistaken and the game in question is Royal Rumble. Unfortunately she's not around to ask and not enough details are known to effectivly run down the full story.
@JMaxwell85
@JMaxwell85 4 жыл бұрын
I think Luna’s memory was all off. She didn’t debut in the WWF until 1993, so it couldn’t have been Wrestlemania for NES or Super WrestleMania. And she was probably too new to make it into Royal Rumble as she debuted around WrestleMania IX. Raw is the first WWF game on a Nintendo system she logically could have been in.

Royal Rumble on Genesis and Snes remain my favorites. I didn't like the roster and goofy special moves they put in RAW. I was so disappointed with Rage in the Cage. You're shitting me. I loved the Genesis soundtrack for Raw. :'( Also, still don't understand why you didn't include Wrestlemania the Arcade Game. Sure, it's different, but I think it's similar enough -- similar enough at least that I'll play Raw and Mania Arcade interchangeably when I have friends over that want to play a wwf genesis game. Anyway, sorry for my nitpicking. Nice video. Hooked me with the really well-done "unreleased" 32x videos. Am liking the other stuff on the channel. Surprised you don't have more subs. Wish I had discovered your channel sooner. Also, could've sworn the announcer opposite Jerry Lawler was supposed to be Vince McMahon, but I might be mixing it up with Wrestlemania Arcade. It was definitely mentioned in one of the manuals for those two games.
@Jenovi
@Jenovi 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Essentially, I did a fairly long standalone video on WrestleMania the Arcade Game. It was developed my Midway then ported by Acclaim to home consoles. It's really not connected to the other four games outside of containing the same license. It's also like comparing Ryu in Smash Bros to Ryu in Street Fighter II, not really a fair comparison as they are fairly different experiences. So ultimately, that's the reason I didn't include it here. Also, you're correct, McMahon is the commentator for Wrestlemania the Arcade game with actual voice commentary. Thanks for watching and once again, I appreciate the comment. PS, the 32X is like the Genesis, but done right music wise.
@drgribb

Yeah, I get what you mean. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment and reply to it! :) Yeah, I happen to really love the genesis' YM2612 sound. Just about every soundtrack I've heard from the 32X (pretty much all of them) has melted my ears off though. Just beautiful. Only reason I haven't really taken a dive on it yet is because most of the games I want on it, including games one would expect to be super common/cheap, are dumbass expensive, and I don't really rock with flashcarts. Am always fascinated by all the "what-ifs" and "coulda-beens" on it that never got finished/released!

I prefer Royal Rumble to Raw, because of the rosters (on both versions) and the pacing. I find Raw too chaotic, and the uniform height of the wrestlers stands out on Raw in a way it didn't on the previous installments. Also, Raw brings in unrealistic "mega moves" to a game that otherwise takes (dare I say) a simulation approach. I get it, Raw has the best graphics, the most modes, submissions and alternate pins, but it's always just been an un-fun mess to me.
