I just realized. The other guy was supposed to be an allied psyker, but turned out to be a cultist. He prolonged his suffering on purpose to open him up to the will of choas. He kept telling the inquisition he knew something he didn't, escalating the torture well past the point an inquisitor would have just shot him for innocence or noncompliance.

This is my understanding of the plot so far: A laborer on an Imperial world is working a back breaking, thankless job in the Imperial war machine. He hates it but his lover and friends make it all worth it and he maintains his faith. Then the Imperial authorities, working on false information, conclude that the worker is a dangerous cult leader. They capture him and kill everyone close to him to be safe and avoid corruption. While imprisoned the worker is tortured but refuses to abandon his faith and falsely confess to another's sins. The torturers do not believe he is innocent. After a long time of torture without breaking he is brought before a psyker, likely an inquisitor, who reads his mind and not only sees he is innocent but sees the pain within him and the desire for vengeance. The psyker turns out to be a cultist for Tzeech, and in the end it is not pain but the promise of revenge that breaks his immense willpower. The last line, "just as planned," heavily implies that it was the psyker who made the false allegations and framed the prisoner in the first place in order to harness his will and defiance to their own ends.

The Emperor of Mankind might be a tyrant and despot with sole objective to defeat the Chaos and triumph over Old Night but he is humanity's defiance personified, the rage against the dying of the light made flesh and bone. If you want to really be specific, the Inquisitor corrupted him. Chaos didn't fill his heart with hate and anger. The lies of the inquisitor did. Chaos did nothing but capitalize on it, and offer him justice (as self-serving as it may be.

@@richardmoore5347 the weaknesses of his mind were here from the start, he hated the imperium openly in the past and That came back to bite him later when even he forgot his past heresy, but the inquisition never would, he was prone to corruption and could have corrupt his kin too, true the imperium is harsh and unfair, purging at mere suspicions but it is why it lasted so long in agony by cutting infected arms.

I wonder if the servants of Tzeentch, in all their machinations to trick others into serving them or fall to the ruinous powers, ever stop and think "is this the truth of my fall as well? Did I lose myself to lies when there were better alternatives to changing my fate? Was I set up and the tragedies of my life orchestrated by my current master? If so, do I really owe him my loyalty?" Perhaps most are too far gone to ask such a thing, but it's an interesting consideration if nothing else. By the way, interesting enough, it seems our guy was manipulated by a Tzeentchian into becoming a Khornate or perhaps chaos undivided. I wonder if there will be representatives of the other big four coming up in later songs.

Knowing chaos this poor man was likely not caught by the inquisition by pure coincidence but rather they were seeking to create a vessel. That would be an interesting twist at the end of if he found out that chaos, the very force that "freed" him, caused him to get targeted by the inquisition so they could turn him into a vessel to infect the world.

They can't read them fully, that would require incredible amounts of psychic power. Besides, the psyker was actually a chaos cultist, so I assume they were telling the inquisition that our protagonist knows something they don't just to prolong the torture, making it easier to have them fall to chaos.

@@DOOM_Dwarf its also because psykers tend to have a bad habit of blowing up and becoming portals for demons to flood the world. even if that doesnt happen, other perils of the warp might cause fucky wucky stuff to happen. so psykers are hardly trusted (other than certain paths that are both useful and seen as closer to divinity than foul mutation) and even if they have a competent psyker they will hardly ever use them in fear of losing the said psyker to some random happenstance, like for instance all of their blood just evaporating because they messed up whatever warp ability they were trrying to use

*A CHAMPION OF CHAOS* (undivided ?) *AWAKENS* Who could have more power granted to them by chaos gods but those who have felt their respectable emotions, appeased them and had strong wills? In the first one he showed honor and royalty plus anger and a thirst for vengeance and battle (khorne) The second one showed him trying to resist his fate, and deciding to change it plus having a glimpse of what they plan of doing with him (the changer of fates) Now we need 5 more two for each chaos god left and the one for him meeting the emperor, lastly a redemption arc or a grimdark arc to finish the story
