For real. The "epic battle is fight" approach to storytelling 40k has misses a lot of opportunities for drama and worldbuilding alike. Like, we don't know anything about what most people's lives are like, outside of "it varies from planet to planet", and there's not a single story about Average Joe surviving in some Hive World, but just say the Agripinaa Pattern Type III Autogun is .45 cal instead of 8.25 cal and there's 18 different codexes to tell you otherwise.

While Gregor Eisenhorn had a list of faults that could be used to measure the diametre of the golden palace, a thing that really hits me is from the second book, where he laments that he has to fight with an ecclesiarchy witch hunter dead set to kill the heretic. While far from faultless, the inquisition at least respond to proof of heresy, while ecclesiarchy (and ministorum by proxy) will jump at any and all slightest hints of possible deviation.

The Imperium's populace will have improved morale knowing the feared Inquisition will likely have the same fate of a firing squad or tortured to death or left to rot in a cell for doing only their duty. @@Fordo007Ik I'm late but doesn't that kinda go against the point? Inquisitors don't typically jump at the slightest sign of Heresy and usually act on proof, they aren't trigger happy and those that are probably ain't good Inquisitors to begin with. But if you interfere with the Inquisition in such a manner that's just gonna make what the other guy said come to fruition. They can't afford to take chances, they can't afford to hesitate and if you start killing em en masse then who's gonna be there to stop these chaos incursions? Who's gonna show up to prevent these Daemonic invasions or a Genestealer cult from becoming too powerful and ending tenfold the amount of lives the Inquisition could have saved at the cost of a few? Yes, the Inquisition isn't infallible and sometimes make mistakes or certain Inquisitors think they can do as they wish, but for every nutjob you have an Inquisitor that has likely saved many more lives than he's taken, even if some of those lost were innocent. This song seems to suggest the Ecclesiarchy is behind the tragedy that occurs, now that's a much more common occurrence as they genuinely will go and kill an innocent man on the most barely sane reason

@@iglidor The point is that the Imperium is wrong, that this is in the very text itself my man. The interex, countless independent human worlds, T'au actually do have psykers as well in a literal whole race. Bunch of nerds with battleship Galactica model's, really meditative folks & lots of meditation and the like, calming stuff seems to be encouraged in the t'au empire. The Imperial way of handling psykers is the most brutal way possible of handling it, of handling chaos and its so brutal, so senselessly cruel? That people like in this song are the norm, people join chaos because life is not worth living. Not worth enduring in the Imperium, T'au society and hows its structured, it's lack of pure cruelty? Helps protect the non-t'au immensely, combined with those aliens having indeed made in many cases there own systems of psykers, kroots have shapers and the like who tell people what is safe to eat. Eating chaos does mess em up, a bit as does genestealer and I think maybe Tyranid. But simply put, the Imperium is the most cruel barbaric regime to ever exist, it makes many of its own problems.

You'd be surprised. Assuming this is Pre-Cadia / Great Rift, the Inquisition would kill you without even a seconds hesitation for simply looking at a member of chaos. A simple mantle towards a Chaos entity that looks initially like an Imperium one was enough for Inqusisitors to either send you to prison for life or to simply execute you. If for a second they thought your supposed taint was on anyone else, they too where just as guilty. Again, it was simple as looking at and running from chaos that led to things like the Months of Shame. They where so paranoid about the influence of chaos spreading like a hidden disease, they figured killing a 10000 will save the 5 million. This changed somewhat after Cadia, with Chaos being litterally fucking everywhere, but the Inquistion is still a bunch of pricks.

The funny thing is, that guy could have been complete heretic. Cultist to the bone, just pretending even in his mind that he is faithfull. Hoping to get away with his vile deeds. One mistake is all it takes for entire sectors to burn to ground, for trillions of human lives to be lost and for heretic cults torturing billions to the brink of insanity and then way beyond. That little kid that showed miniscule signs that he may or may not posses some psyker abilities? If you would spare him and just pass it as "I must have imagined it" or "It is nothing serious", you can then 30 years down the line end up watching entire planet to be torn apart and turned into demonic hellscape because of it. And you have absolutely no sure way to verify beforehand if that kid will do that or not. Would you take that kid to the black ships where it will suffer greatly and probably be sacrificed? Or will you take the chance? One kid vs lives of everyone on the planet dying in the most horrible way you can imagine where parents will bite their children to pieces just to end their suffering little bit faster. People before took those chances. And often it did not end up bad. But those few times when it did, the consequences infinitely outweighted the benefits of sparing some lives and being nice.

There is a story were a preacher was sent to a population of beastmen and mutants, where things got heated due to the local authorities ignoring the numerous murders of mutants. Eventually devolved into a full on rebellion when an anti riot force gunned a bunch of protestors when they claimed they have worked hard all their lives for the Emperor. It turned out the rulers of the planet where the ones behind the murders, which were actually sacrifices in heretic rituals. The preacher had a breakdown because he couldn't comprehend someone who had everything in their lives were the ones who turned to chaos.

i love this story. Corrupt administrator (NOT INQUISITIOR it says it) getting his heretic quota hunt. Does not care who or how it's done. In the end the emperor does not come but darker things.

I so badly want to see the Emperor call the custodes to bring the inquisition to heel so they can truly answer to the Emperor. And there'd be a ton the inquisition will be forced to finally answer to and if the Emperor is not satisfied with the answers I want to see him tell the custodes to cut them down.

I was hoping something about Lucius , but this is fucking lit. If that would be a story how the ruinous powers find him and how he breaks out to look for revenge... Not gonna lie. I would read a book/short story about that.
