It's bloody mayhem on the site in this collection of the CSAO's greatest TV hits of the 70s and 80s. Strange and unnerving to recall that these PSAs would air everyday after school during the cartoon blocks!
Retrontario’s primary mission is the preservation, research and exhibition of rare videotape recordings (1970s to 1990s) recorded off of any and all Ontario (and surrounding area) TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. We also hope to create an ongoing oral history of this content through comments left below the videos. Please add to this evolving history, if you know more information pertaining to the clips, fondly remember them or have a modern thought all comments are welcome! For more information on how to help in our mission please visit us at: www.retrontario.com

Yeah, that's scarier than the average person thinks! Being buried alive in construction dirt like that and no one hearing you yell for help as you sink more and more in it. That's why safety is always a must at ANY construction site!

I watched Maple Leaf Wrestling every Saturday on CHCH 11(as a kid). These psas would show. I had the one with the metal in the eye on a cassette. I always remembered the "We've got it, let's use it" slogan. It's sure good to see these again!👍

Oh, yeah. From my youth. Remember clearly, and watching this is giving me flashbacks and PTSD!! Seems more like Tarantino grindhouse films than worker safety.

Yes these PSAs deserve to be in the Canadian version of the Smithsonian and the director and writers recognized. These were so effective as a kid I immediately got the point of safety first. Loved the horror movie style and music they were only like 30 seconds or so long but I remember paying close attention whenever they came on.

I can attest to the description. I fondly remember these ads after school while watching TV. Fortunately, I took the lessons with me. I always watch out for nails sticking out of wood to prevent stepping on them. And ladders are a biggy. So many people fall off ladders hanging Christmas lights, working on the gutters, etc. I once installed shutters on my house using a 24' ladder. Knowing the danger of falling, I spent just 5 minutes adding extra safety measures. I tied myself to the ladder with rope around my waist, and also tied down the ladder to a bed frame in the bedroom. I figure if I ever lost my balance, I could had two rope tie offs to maintain balance preventing the ladder from falling sideways.

The Asbestos PSA is true, and the evil stuff is still killing people. In 1959-1960, my dad worked 3 three-month work terms at Johns-Manville. It was the only time he was ever exposed to asbestos. A year ago, he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. He's just begun palliative care, and is preparing for an assisted death. I'm scared as hell because I've spent 10 years working in a poorly maintained building with asbestos in it.

Yeah, everybody has to watch out when at a construction site! Workers and visitors alike! Always use proper safety equipment and take extreme caution when handling equipment, supplies, and dangerous material. For the safety of yourself and others.

I recall another scary one that shows a closeup of an eye, interspersed with things that can cause eye injuries: metal shards from a nail, aerosol sprays, sparks from welding... I think it might have been from an eye care association, not the Construction Safety Association.
