This is exactly why I resent the practice removing shoes at airport security. You have a bunch of people who've just walked through puddles of urine and other nastiness on the floor of the bathroom (or elsewhere), and now their shoes are on the conveyor belt next to bags and personal items. It's incredibly unsanitary and the dimwitted sheeple are fine with it.

The easiest and best way to stop the spread of illness, specifically shigella, which is one of the top five food-borne illnesses encountered in food service. is with good handwashing practices. The number one culprit of the spread of illnesses like this? Shitty handwashing. I work in food service, have for 30 years now, and the frequency i see people leave bathrooms or enter the kitchen without washing their hands makes all of this extremely unsurprising. I live in portland btw. Its literally like one in three people i see not washing their hands when they use the restroom. Seriously. Parents, stop thinking kids will melt if you teach them to wash their hands. Stop making it a chore, or a punishment.

I’ve had multiple men compliment me as the walk past me waiting right outside the door of the men’s bathroom. “You son is ok he even washed his hands!!” Lots would be carrying out their own little kid. So knowing I taught my kid a basic task and I get lots of suprised compliments from other parents (oh wow your kid does it on their own?!?) I’m like … yeah… But I also did clean up of chemical and biological weaponry for the military so… I taught them cross contamination as young kids Haha!!

I just saw another story on a shigella outbreak. People picked up the illness shigellosis from contaminated parsley used in dishes at some nice restaurants in MN. As the investigation discovered, the parsley came from a farm/processing plant in Mexico where it was sprayed with water before shipping, and the water filtration in the county had been damaged by vandalism. So it's an illness that anyone can catch anytime, through no fault of their own.

seems like that means you can verify your sources of food and we should exclude nations of whom don't meet our standards of routine maintenance and testing. The reason we get ecoli from spinach in our fields is because mexican farm workers feel comfortable defecating in the fields. And occasionally that contaminates the end product and we get occasionally get mass recalls.

It’s not new. Been around forever. It’s dysentery. They just gave it a new fancy name . People were dying from it wayyyyyy back before they had toilets in the home. Back when everyone publicly went in open cesspools or in Pans that they then tossed down onto the streets below. It’s a disgusting and totally preventable disease. If these cities can’t stop homelessness they need to put out porta Johns and maintain them for the safety of the public. I hate to say it but we need to bring back huge institutions to house the homeless. Large warehouses converted to rooms . It would be more cost effective then allowing homelessness and all the diseases that go with it. The governments everywhere can afford this. Along with universal healthcare. Don’t let them convince you otherwise. They and they alone are to blame . I’m not saying they are responsible for people’s addictions (but they are in a way) when you consider it was them that allowed and continue to allow drugs to be brought in but they are definitely responsible for all these people living in the streets. Allowing all these ridiculous rents is another issue. I’m all for a landlord making a profit on their dwellings but what we are seeing since the pandemic is just greed and highway robbery plain and simple. The government is allowing for mass distinction of its citizens. We are all royally up the creek without a paddle. It’s only going to get worse. In the meantime. Wash those hands! And why anyone would walk around out in public without a mask on these days is beyond me. With so many homeless everywhere along with addiction, disease is spreading everywhere at an alarming rate. Yet I see people coughing and sneezing without covering up. Spitting on the streets. Putting fingers in their mouths or noses then touching everything you touch behind them. Rule in my home is shoes off before crossing the threshold long before Covid even became an issue. Can you even begin to imagine the horrific things you walk on daily that you bring into your home with your footwear? If you thought about it. Really thought about it, you’d never allow anyone to enter your home with footwear on.

Living in filth breeds disease. What a surprise. We've spent millions trying to help these people but it appears that most prefer to stay on the street where they can freely use drugs rather than go to a shelter or try to find a path out of homelessness. It's very sad, but they most won't help themselves no matter how much we offer to support them. It's a drug and mental health problem, and that problem cannot be solved by pouring millions into programs few will use. Let's help those who will actually try to better their situation. And let's stop crying for the ones who prefer a drugged-out homeless lifestyle over shelters, jobs, and transition services.
