Film a Contingency Review! In this twelfth episode, we test a 2020 Ford Fiesta Active 1.0 Active X Edition, a version of the current Mark VIII/Mark 8 Fiesta introduced in 2018. A very nice looking car, well equipped, thing what I found when i reviewed a fiesta last year as well as a Corsa at the same time is that I preferred the Corsa, the price puts me off a fiesta according to ford website £18600 for a entry level fiesta now, think last year when I reviewed one it was about £17600 and at the minute ford are not taking factory orders so you have to look at the dealer stock as well. Would I own a fiesta? Yeah but it would have to be a second hand one for me.

It's funny sir, but the Corsa you drove was the previous generation compared with the Mark VIII Fiesta, really, so I find that interesting. You are right about the price rises, hence why lots of people are now opting for something like a Puma instead. They are still great cars, though, no doubt about that.

Is this a mark 8 Fiesta? sorry if I missed it if mentioned - I'M a bit drunk as I watch this.🤪 Had few ales in Norwich City centre earlier. 😁 I wonder why Ford done away with the high level tail lights of the previous generation Fiesta? I consider high level tail lights on hatchback and estate cars as an industry standard. A good safety feature in my opinion.

That looks quite smart. I wonder if the eco-boom engine is now hurting sales. You said yourself if you buy from new on PCP etc and only keep it 3 or 4 years you should be fine. But are they a good used deal?

It's a tricky one, sir. I know the post-2017 engines are better, but I suppose the only proof about what will happen in the future is to wait and see.

Although ultimately the raised ground clearance and black plastic trim pieces are completely pointless…for me I think they make the car look really good! I do think nearly £25k for a Fiesta is a bit excessive and im not a fan of the “stuck on” / non integrated touch screen (although definitely not unique to this car..), but otherwise I quite like this, especially the colour

Yes, sir, they are probably a little pointless, but I agree, it does work quite well! The worst "tablet" style infotainment system is the 205 series Mercedes C-Class that both my mother and Mr Richardson own, I think.

I learnt to drive in a 1.5 Fiesta powered by pixies and fairie dust sir and it was a great drive no doubt however as one gets older with a family, I chose Vauxhall as I seem to get the spec or size above when comparing £ for £. For a decent Fiesta you can get a good Astra, for a decent Focus price I got my Insignia and so on. Wonderful handling cars but depends what you want for your budget

Ah yes, sir! The good old fairy dust... Fords are holding their value well, and the Corsa is now Britain's favourite car, so they probably are a bit cheaper both new and secondhand. This Fiesta Active did drive really nicely and had lots of nice features.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting woe betide those who run engines on forbidden fuels sir for low taxation and occasionally very good economy sir. I'm all about renewable and alternative fuels 😄 although with my "enthusiastic" driving style I doubt I'll get much MPG out of anything 😅

Nice car , way too much unnecessary nonsense behind the touchscreen. Good to see physical heater controls and real handbrake. Cannot get my feeble little brain to understand a heated steering wheel ! Where’s the cd slot ? Is it really that much better than a mk6 . Thanks for bringing this car to us Joseph.

We have a heated steering wheel on the SsangYong, sir, and my lady wife absolutely loves it. We love the physical controls for the heater and the normal handbrake! Not sure if there is a CD player, our SsangYong doesn't have one... Touchscreen is really par for the course these days.

They did put a 1.5 Turbo into the Focus Active for a time, as far as I remember.

Hilarious, so many touchscreen menus and I remember when you used to jump in your car turn the key and drive off. Too many distractions these days

It's the same with almost everything else these days, it seems. This is one of the less complex systems.

My understanding of why the Fiesta is not in the sales charts is not because no one wants them but Ford is not manufacturering them. There has been a big gap between the old MK8 ending and the new face lift whilst Ford used the lack of supplies (chip shortage) to build £25,000-£30,000 Pumas not £16,000-£20,000 Fiestas.

Yes, the Puma, on the same platform, probably has higher profit margins than the Fiesta. A lot of the lower trims and engines have also been dropped recently. Thank you ever so much indeed for watching!

I do like the Fiesta as a car to drive it's dynamics are superb but I would say the narrow cabin and lack of legroom are what let's it down I believe it's going to be replaced in 2025 by a new electric vehicle built on a shared VW group platform (A Ford version of the upcoming VW I'd 2)

It's not as cramped as some cars in the class, I would say that is comparable with the Polo in terms of rear space, the boot is around 20 litres smaller. I have also heard the replacement news, although it could be given a stay of execution, I suppose...

Not a bad looking car but the wheels look way to over designed and i'm not keen on this upsweep towards the C pillar all the car firms are doing now. Rear view from the drivers seat looks awfull with those mahoosive blind spots and I really dont like the tablets on the dash.

I think that's why the owner specified the parking sensors and reversing camera. I would certainly recommend them with a car like this.

With so much extra and unnecessary technology to go wrong, this car is brilliant until the 3 year warranty runs out. I'll stick to Kia thanks

I sourced a 2017 Kia Rio for a client two years ago. Review is on the channel somewhere. The choice between these two is becoming a moot point now, anyway, as both are scheduled to be discontinued later this year.
