Re-evaluating Beam Paints watercolors after a few years (how was 2021 so long ago?!)
The short version:
- The smaller wells make it harder to get paint, which the process slower.
- The paint stones from the Mother Earth set are more opaque and contain larger particles that sit on the paper. Mixes with these paints become muddier.
- Similarly, some of the colors in the Spectrum 11 are PW6 mixes (Morning Peach and Robin's Egg Blue), which makes them more opaque. They also make poor mixing colors.
- Some of the paints have very low tinting strength.
Overall, these paints are beautiful on their own, but don't suit my painting style at this point, which relies on using a limited set of colors that can be mixed and layered heavily.
