If you are a junior developer, just starting out, what is your first day like? What sorts of things will you be asked to do, what will be expected of you? Your first day as a software engineer is an exciting and probably scary event. Many employers aren’t all that good at bringing new people into their firms, and so it is not always as good an experience as we all might hope. So what can you expect and what can you do to make the most of of it.
In this episode Dave Farley, an experienced software developer, expert in software engineering and continuous delivery, author of several books, and someone who has recruited, and seen many junior developers through their first day, talks about what you are likely to experience, the good and the bad. Dave then describes some of the things to think about a bit longer-term that will help you to make the best start you can in your new career.
