Doesn’t the extra purl row mean you have one more row than on the instep, which then will mean you won’t connect smoothly when you go to rejoin the instep?

It's easily fixed by picking up an extra stitch in the gap and knitting it together with the one past it on the instep. I do this anyway to avoid a hole at the join and leave it stronger.
