This. I'm so sick of hearing "airbrush" as though it's some magic foolproof tool. It's not. It's a massive pain in my experience.

Thank you so much for the carapace color! I've been trying so long to find a contrast paint that looks like the naggaroth night base paint i've painted all my nids in but i was never satisfied with the result But i think your Leviathan/Shyish mix looks great

I’m glad i’m new to warhammer so I can get this box without worry of duplicates. I only need to decide weather to make them Dark Angles or Ultramarines as I have The Lion and Guilliman, but they have no armies to command. Custodes I recently learned, cannot be led by anyone but the emperor or Trajan

Looks amazing see when you say 3 parts and 1 part how are you achieving this and where are you storing the mix? Wet palette?

What I do is scoop rough ratios onto a wet palette and just mix away. I also keep contrast and lahmian medium in squeeze bottles for the same reason.

My guess would be for contrast purposes. Since he used straight vp for the soft joints, if he also used it as the main wash it would blend in together instead of standing out

How do you get that clear pink from the carroburg crimson in the beginning? I just seem to get a spotty pink :( I use the 3:1 solution

I like how they look. I want to do something like this, but brighter and more cartoony, using Luxious purple instead of the Leviathon purple for the carapace. What would some good colors be (I am not good at figuring out color schemes

Maybe I'm missing something but my Sotek Green is so much more saturated than the final look here, am I missing something? Do I need to water it down. I'm new to this.

It looks good from tabletop view but up close I just don’t like the chalky dry effect on the skin from the drybrushing. I also tried simply layering the flesh with thinned wraithbone as I’m guessing the Eavy Metal team did for the showcase Leviathan army but of course that is very tedious and will take forever to paint a 2k army lol. Instead I have opted for an easier scheme altogether with Kronos hive fleet; black skin with red carapace. It’d be cool if you did a tutorial on how you’d tackle that scheme. Thank you for the great work!

You can mitigate the chalky finish if you use a more rounded brush (like a makeup brush). Another idea (I don't know how well it would work but it's worth a try) would be to drybrush and then layer the most pronounced areas with thinned Wraithbone to cover up the worst of the chalky finish. I would also say that I'm not sure it's worth the bother to layer if you're painting for gaming. I totally understand the obsession with getting everything right, to correct details you know intellectually that nobody else will care about (I'm certainly guilty of that) but as they say, finished is better than perfect.
