Contrast Painting the New O-12 Torchlight Brigade from Corvus Belli's Infinity

Hey, guys!
This video format is a bit different from the usual content, but I'm going to show you how I painted the new O-12 Torchlight Brigade Action Pack, Helbblazers a Silverstar Rover from Corvus Belli with contrast paints in the original blue and gold color scheme. This way I can show you in more detail how I use colors for priming, and my zenithal highlight technique, how i did the free hand, and show you how and where I use multiple highlights.

I imagine it's much the same process, but would love to see this approach used for some box-art style military orders!

Actually, I have a similar video on the channel about military order hospitaler knights. Maybe that is what you are looking for: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6eXgs1k1d7FiKM.html But I have quite a few military orders minis sitting built and primed, so at some point, it is likely that they'll turn into a video as well :)

This longer form style of video is super useful for seeing and considering many of the little micro decisions that go into painting and the decisions behind them. When each step has more time on screen, there's more room for those questions to breathe in my head and for them to come together into small little epiphanies. Thank you very much for continuing to teach us!!

Hey! I'm happy to hear that you liked this format. I had to go on a business trip and didn't have time for the usual style of video, so I thought I would try this 😅 Despite the length this is actually easier to make and I also felt that I could expand on things a bit more. If people like it, I might mix in this format more in the future.

I’ll second that. It’s good to see a video showing the thinking rather than just the colours. I wouldn’t want every video to be so long, but it’s a nice occasional change.

Considering these are the newest models for O-12. Do you enjoy the Greco-Roman look they went for?

Well, I am a huge fan of Ultramarines in Warhammer 40k, so these guys are right up my alley 😀 These are also slightly bigger than the usual infinity minis, which is also a plus in my books. To be honest, Space Marines still look better imho, but these models are a nice alternative.

Loving all the Infinity and Tau projects. Did you ever happen to get around to the Blackwind Aleph? Not trying to make a video demand or anything, but if you did happen to paint those (off camera) I'd still like to see some pics!

Hey Kyle! They are still unpainted, and at some point soon, I plan to rectify that :) I usually paint 1-3 models at a time, I need to build up the courage to paint 7 :D

Awesome video, as always. I was wondering if you'd be sticking with green or be too tempted to head back to the boxart color scheme, haha. I love the freehand, you're giving me the courage I need to try it myself.

:D I saw your comment on the other video, and I remembered while painting these guys. It was surprisingly easy to do something that looks decent enough. Convincing onself to try doing it is more difficult than actually doing it it turns out 😅

Did you find the contrast paint step worthwhile? It seems like you took a similar number of steps had you basecoated and then applied highlights.

That's a good question. I didn't really use the contrast paints for speed, to be honest. It was a bit faster than applying basecoats, but it was more important that it is way more transparent, so the zenithal underpainting creates some natural shading and transitions. Plus, contrast is way more vibrant than most normal acrylics as well. Basically, I could have used normal acrylic basecoats, and it would have taken only slightly longer, but the end result would have looked very different. The only place where this was significantly faster than usual is the metalics, since thanks to the shading the contrast created, I skipped a lot of the initial steps in the NMM process. ( at the expense of quality, of course )
