Excellent series! Your real world experience tidbits makes it a pure “must watch” for me. Damn, I was not going to buy this Kiowa but now I am so pumped to go flying slow figure 8 patterns 😀

Yep! I'm not one to get into the politics of ED and 3rd party devs, etc, but I hope they realize how many sales they're getting as a result of this man's work and dedication! Like you, I'm one of those sales. Just bought mine😉 Not sure when I'll have some free time to set her up and enjoy this incredible module, but damn!

Great video. I also am lucky enough to have a surplus of buttons but it is always nice to know ahead of time what is needed and what could be left out to be able to clean things up when it comes to bindings.

Lots of good content here for setting up what matters for the OH-58. While everyone has a mix of controls and brands, I'll admit that it is beneficial to me when I at least see what someone has mapped in a quick scroll through of the DCS control pages. So excited for this release! Maybe the F-4E had a ton of hype, but this is the module I plan on flying the most. Thanks for all of these great videos on this module!

FYI: I found that b) the MFK is completely mapped with a monkey grip (left win left ctrl letter/number) and b) if you use left ctrl + letter/number, there is only 2 mappings that will conflict. ctrl z for the time warp and strl t for trimmer reset. I think you rarely need z (I am a bit time warp addicted), and I haven't used trimmer reset yet at all, even though I've bound it on my HOTAS. If you have head tracking, I think you could even use the number pad directly, since it only controls the view most of the time.

I HIGHLY recommend that the roll and pitch be assigned to your stick, the collective to your throttle and the anti-torque is on your foot pedals. Other than that, I don't have anything else to add. If you found this helpful, you need more help than just controls. lol

When it comes to keybinds. I'm of the mindset to get it as close to the real thing as possible regardless of how often it is really used. So this video helps a lot for me. Thank you.

To further elaborate on Modifier / Switch: Modifier = "burn" one key/button/switch on any device to get a shift (meaning you have to keep the button pressed) and nearly doubling your buttons. Double minus 2 bc you cant use the mod button for anything else. Switch = press it once and every button/key/x will change to a different input. Good if you are very limited and need a lot of keys for different scenarios (e.g. switch between Navigation or WeaponUsage or AA/AG and so on) Personally i have a lot of keys (Winwing Orion Throttle and TM Warthog Stick; plus peddals and Tobii for Headtracking) so i mainly use one modifier button (pinky button on my throttle). I use then modified keys for things i dont want to touch accidentally (e.g. jettison, scas release), for covers (i have the jett cover on a modifier button and the jett button itself is a normal press - which wont fire until the cover is flipped) and for 3way or 4way hats with kind of the same function (4way plus button for comm -> up is ptt vox, down is ptt radio, press is ptt teamspeak and discord, modified up hf, modified down uhf, modified left vhf 1, modified right vhf2 ((just examples)). It can be really neat 😊

I have a Saitek X-56 Rhino and I can use it for pretty much every aircraft I have in DCS but then I also have the Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs and these really help to add more buttons for the bezels and other things.

FYI In one of these videos you mentioned the doors weight. In mission editor adding the doors add 7 pounds of weight. (Pretty sure that's incorrect as my Jeep doors weight more than 3.5 pounds each, but hey.) So as of now, it's 7 pounds for 2 doors. in mission editor. (NOTE: mission editor doesn't always translate correctly with weights and such, so be aware of this.)

A stupid real life question here. Is there a way for the left seater to lock the cyclic grip, or does he have to be following the right seaters movements with a light touch while trying to operate switches ?

It would be extremely helpful if you would provide copies of your input layout text files for the Kiowa warrior. Then others could adapt their controllers to your configuration.

I love the choppers so I was always gonna be interested in the Kiowa. But day 2 - this feels like the perfect bird for me. An FM that means I can throw the thing around but it’s not too twitchy and doesn’t feel underpowered. Of course, I have no idea how realistic it is, but it sure feels right. And maybe because the computer stuff is 2010s (I believe) it’s intuitive and just complicated enough to give me great control, I find the 80s and 90s interfaces like on the Harrier have poor usability. That might be Polychop as well, they do seem to put a lot of thought into how best to translate a virtual-virtual interface. I find the Apache too fiddly in this respect. And I find the 64 flies like a bus - sadly (for me) the Hind is more of an athlete than the Apache. I’m sure this is what it’s like but when it comes to fun, the only downside to the Kiowa for me is its limited armament. I don’t mean the range, just the amount of ammo. 7 rockets barely gets me started with my poor aim 😀. Nothing to be done there except to git gud. Anyway. I had concerns that the mast and the computerised stuff would bore me with complexity but no. It feels just right. Oh, one more thing. My computer is getting on. I’m having a bit of stuttering frame rates which seems to be mitigated by closing anything else I have open. I hope there’s some optimisation to come but I am aware I have a 5 year old machine. Sure it was top of the line when I bought it for my 3D rendering business but a 2080Ti is getting long in the tooth now. I would like another year or two but I’ll understand if I’m at my limits. I have a bit of headroom with visual settings, but as I worked in 3D rendering for VFX, I might find that a bit painful. Still, no money coming in while I’m kinda retired but I’ll have to work something out. I hate laptops, so at least I only have to budget for one computer and a tablet!

I read that the copilot cyclic could be disconnected from the flight controls to make it easier to use the mms. Was this typically done?

Someone Please Help!? I can't seem to trim the aircraft. First off, In the special tab I have tried the different trim styles. Instant, Fade in/ Fade out, None and the other I don't recall at the moment. I bring up the Cyclic Input mapping via CTRL + Enter. I have SCAS on and Force Trim enabled yet I can not Trim the aircraft. Cyclic mapping shows that I initiate the trim for hands off forward flight. Gray Input Que shows that Trim release gets set where desired yet NO effect on the bird. My spring joystick returns to center as the Red Que follows the joystick to center and the OH58 pitches up. The gray que stays where I want but there is no actual trim happening. What else am I missing??

I am well versed with the AH-64 and trimming is not an Issue there as I have instant trim enabled and It works. I understand FFB and how to compensate for a spring Joystick however I get no response to trimming in the OH58
