I guess you can't talk about specs, since it is on other aircraft also. I figured you could talk more about this one now that it is not used anymore, but if the CMWS and IR systems are on other aircraft it would be the same.

Great work Casino, brings back good memories of my time in the forces. Teamwork is key to DCS Multiplayer, loving the Kiowa. Allows me to travel further than driving a Humvee to lase a target. Did you ever have to lase a building to not set off laser warning sensors, then point to target in the final few seconds?

Excellent video - saw you over on Ward Carrol's page. Was an SH-60B/F crewman for 18 years and stole around 500 hours up in the front seat - we carried some Kiowas aboard our Frigate back in the Earnest Will days - wanted SO badly to enjoy that bird. WISH I could afford DSC and play.

Great stuff, Casmo!! Im getting the Kiowa either this evening or tomorrow. I'm very excited!! One question... Could you do a video like the ones youndid a few years ago on the basics of helicopter flying, but do one covering OGE hovering? IGE hovering is easy, since all of the visual reference points (edge of the taxiway, taxiway markings, lights, etc.) are so close. It's easy to hold position in an IGE hover. I can't seem to find good reference points for holding steady position in an OGE hover. I would love to see a video covering this, please. Thanks again!!

That creepy APR voice...God, I hated that. It'd bleed over from the pilots to the crewdogs in the 60. Give me chills.

I had a friend in maintenance I'd work with who was REALLY good at mimicking the voice. I snuck him around to plug into my ICS when we were doing some testing on the APR-39. We had another guy shooting it with the radar test kit. My buddy popped up with the APR-39 voice, going through the motions and my pilots were none the wiser UNTIL he said: "Missile, four o' clock. We're fucked." I've never seen such hilariously confused faces on my pilots as I did that day.

What axis did you map your throttle to? I did the same thing but it doesn't seem to work at all. I used the same axis that I use in the Huey and it works fine there.

I’m absolutely loving the ability to hand over to the AI to hover whilst I manage the laser guided weapons. I do love the Gazelle but it kinda breaks my immersion to have to pretend my pilot or copilot is asleep or drunk or something while I do a popup attack on some Vatnik tanks. It’s doable, it just seems unrealistic that it would happen that way, flying as well as targeting and shooting in a two man cockpit. But I can tell my Kiowa AI pal to fly slowly or hover as I get busy! Yes, I know you can do this in the Apache but that thing feels like a semi-trailer to me, the Kiowa is a sports car.

I just wanted to add; For those new and stuggling with flight stability/sensitivity. Go into your axis controls and add curves to your cyclic roll/pitch. I find that 25 is about perfect. Prior to doing this, I found the aircraft was so unwieldy that basic flight was tedious and combat maneuvers and were damn near impossible. So, if you’re really struggling with basic stability , don’t get discouraged. Go into controls, search axis commands, find cyclic roll and pitch and you can axis tune these. I’ve had to do this for most of DCS’s helo’s while getting used to them.
@davthacker
@davthacker Күн бұрын
You can do it this way and I have but the problem with the curves is it makes the outer area of the axis even more sensitive. I really like reducing the Y saturation instead. It gives your axis a smoother input and there is no force being multiplied later in the axis. The downside is it reduces the usable axis, say you set it to 70 then you only have 70 percent of the axis available. With the kiowa I don't think this is really a problem though because you'll never really need full deflection, if you do though then use force trim. Say you want to push nose down but further than the 70 percent you have available, just force trim then recenter the joystick and you can now push all the way down. If you find the kiowa to be too sensitive, lower the y saturation on the x and y axis to say 60. As you get more comfortable start raising it up.

Love all the videos so far, its pretty awesome having a guy thats flown these IRL here helping us all from day 1! I have a question i havent seen answered though but maybe i missed it. Is there a way to speed down the cursor for the MMS? When i max zoom in its super janky and i have a hard time getting it onto the target? Thanks again for all this shit, super cool of you dude

Casmo: I can't help myself. It's a compulsion: Right Seaters: Put your target area as a DIR WPT, and flip screens between the HSD and the VSD. HSD provides a useful visual reference for MMS bearing, and the line to the DIR WPT helps you to estimate the turn points, range, and angles for flying 8s. The HSD also has a carat to always know where the MMS bearing is. Get Gud at using those screen select switches to flip between the VSD and the HSD to keep spatial awareness and keep your left-seater from smacking you in the back of the helmet.

You are having thoses snaps when using force trim becouse you're trying to do it like in real life where you press the force trim release button and release it where you want the stick to stay, but in real life the ciclic does not have a spring lol, so in the game you have to do the other way around, you have to move your stick where you want it to stay and presse the force trim release button and you have to drag the stick to the center and release the force trim release button, so your virtual stick in your helicopter will stay where you want it to stay meanwhile your real stick will stay in yhe center. If you want a more realistic experience, you have to buy a force feedback stick, the cheaper option is the Microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2, it's a very old stick and you'll have to buy it used, but has more quality than any spring based stick that you can think of, this stick has force feedback so it can precisely simulate the force trim effect in any aircraft that has force trim in DCS, like helicopters in general, flankers, migs, harriers, etc

Deltas were just being introduced when I ETS'd as 58A crew chief. I always wondered how the Disco Balls worked and if they were at all effective? Did IR seaker tech just get too sophisticated to be fooled by them and that's why they're not used? Our unit, 229th AHB was slated to get them so we had one come in for demo flight and familiarization just before I left. Pretty cool upgrade, at the time! I miss those aircraft!

Someone Please Help!? I can't seem to trim the aircraft. First off, In the special tab I have tried the different trim styles. Instant, Fade in/ Fade out, None and the other I don't recall at the moment. I bring up the Cyclic Input mapping via CTRL + Enter. I have SCAS on and Force Trim enabled yet I can not Trim the aircraft. Cyclic mapping shows that I initiate the trim for hands off forward flight. Gray Input Que shows that Trim release gets set where desired yet NO effect on the bird. My spring joystick returns to center as the Red Que follows the joystick to center and the OH58 pitches up. The gray que stays where I want but there is no actual trim happening. What else am I missing??
@DaShaneo
@DaShaneo Күн бұрын
I am well versed with the AH-64 and trimming is not an Issue there as I have instant trim enabled and It works. I understand FFB and how to compensate for a spring Joystick however I get no response to trimming in the OH58
