I am slowly transforming my entire home into a smart environment. Been getting Google Home speakers for every room and changing all the lights to Philips Hue. Going to eventually upgrade my old TV to s smart TV. This is getting expensive but it will be totally worth it once my whole house is set up.

Managed to get it to work after a few tries. Initially was not able to detect the tv even after following the steps and then I restarted my mobile device having the Google home app and it worked. Great video. Now have to search for all the Google commands possible with my samsung the frame 2020 model.

@@HelpCloud yeah managed to get set of commands for Google mini too. Only command that doesn't seem to function from that list is changing channel to a particular number. Plays next channel and previous channels fine though.

Thanks Mark! I was able to do it. But apart from on/off/volume/up-down/mute/source commands(which I’m able to do), can we use other commands like play xyz movie on Netflix or a song on Spotify on tv? My 2019 RU series uHDTV fails to recognise such commands - google assistant says “tv doesn’t have this feature”

The funniest thing is, back in 2012 I was able to “speak” with my Samsung tv. Hello tv - turn on/of, volume up/down, channel 567/next etc. but in reality I was using it for 1 or 2 months. & now I’m watching video “how to talk with tv”))))

@@HelpCloud Yeah , kind of but as you mentioned in the video. The Google nest has limited access to the tv it can switch on/of and tweak the volume and thats it. When i asked it to open KZfaq or Amazon app , it says your Samsung tv needs to have Chromecast built-in or screen mirroring function ? My tv model is Samsung RU7470 of 55 inch and it has screen mirroring function. If i have to use remote for all the remaining functions why can't i use it for switch on/of too. Also i have connected it to LAN cable so on/off also doesn't work as you mentioned it must be wireless but i tried both...its useless as of now.

No, it should swap over to a TV. You may have to re-setup.

Thank you for that, some great information on adding my TV to Smart Things but now that it is there, I don't know how it would ever be useful. The remote control is so much faster and more convenient than going to Google Assistant, and using the remote I can even change the channel - instantly!

Early TVs models it is hit or miss. I have since moved to a Amazon Firestick, if I am working on something in the garage and greasy hands. Using my voice makes it more convenient. Appreciate the comment!

I don’t get a drop-down to link to my home/room, and every time I select authorize, it routes me back to the Google Home app and gives me a “Something went wrong” error message. I'm looking at getting a Samsung 50inch 4k Smart TV for Christmas & am wanting to take advantage of today's Black Friday deals. I'm looking between these 2 Samsung models currently UE50TU8500, QE50Q60T50 (as well as thisLG 50NANO796NE50 model) as they're on sale today and within my budget. Do you know if the voice control via Google Home will work on these particular models? Due to my disabilty I'm unable to use my current TV you see, as due to my condition I have no movement from below my neck down. So I'm looking in to getting a Smart TV that has good handsfree voice control support (preferably via google) or a has a good remote control app I can use on my phone (as I can use my mouthstick stylus with my mouth). Do you know if you can use voice command's via their smartthings remote control app too, as well as through a Google Home? Also does this feature work in the UK?

There are tons of options out there. A great alternative is a Amazon Firestick or FireCube that plugs into the TV and gives you a good range of control.

You seem like a smart guy. Have you been able to get it to do anything other than turning on and off the tv and changing the volume? I've tried Google Home, Alexa, Bixby and SmartThings and other than getting all of them to use a routine to turn the Samsung tv ON, none of them seem to be able to do anything else, like say switch to KZfaq or play a KZfaq video playlist or switch to Netflix, etc. I'm wondering if you have found a way to do more than just power and volume control. I can get the ambient mode to turn on and play one of their included options there but not the same as truly being able to tell the tv to do what I want it to do.

The first thing we need to do is remove the SmartThings integration from the Google Home app; to do this follow the below steps: Open the Google Home app Press the plus (+) icon in the top left of the screen Set up device Have something already set up? Tap 'SmartThings' and then 'Unlink account' Now we've removed the integration, we can go ahead with the following steps. A quick heads-up, the following steps do look a little complicated but should you need any further assistance or explanation, get back in touch and I'll be happy to help you the best I can Sign in to the following link using your Samsung account: graph-eu01-euwest1.api.smartthings.com/ Once signed in, tap on 'Devices' at the top of the page You will see a list of devices connected to your SmartThings account, find your TV and then click on the name Tap the 'Edit' button towards the bottom of the page In the 'Type ' dropdown box, find and select *'Samsung OCF TV' Tap 'Update' at the bottom of the page You should now be able to add the Google Home integration back to SmartThings and your TV will connect without a hitch

@@jamesstenhouse5568 thanks for the advice, unfortunately it doesn't work me, I've had a lengthy conversation with Samsung UK on twitter and they ran out of suggestions for fixes. They did suggest this and it didn't work then either. They seem to think it's an issue with Google however my TV appears as a switch with Alexa and the IFTTT app as well. On the Google home app you can click on the device type option and change it so you can at least have the TV picture instead of a switch picture 🤷🏼‍♂️. Thanks for the suggestion though

@@nathanrock5068 same here, got similar model (UE55KU6400) and even with following the above instructions, in Google Home app I can see the TV just as a switch, however, I can voice control it. Weird... I restarted the phone, no difference.

Thats great, especially the hint to use wifi instead of ethernet at the end, but ... what's the benefit of turning on/off the tv w/o ability to say something 'play something on netflix'.. I'm just wondering.

Had a query, I just bought a new Samsung QLED tv without doing proper research so didn't realize it didn't have Google assistant in built. After connecting the tv through smart things to Google home I can turn on off or control volume etc. But I want to be able to say things like "Play Stranger Things on Netflix on Bedroom TV" now, I know I can achieve by connecting a Chromecast. But what I would like to know is when I do use a Chromecast on a TV with inbuilt app what will it use the app on the tv or will it try to play through the Chromecast. If it's the later one then should I buy a Chromecast ultra?

If your TV doesnt support that feature, the chromecast method is the only way.

My TV does not turn on via SmartThings or Goolge Assistant. It does everything fine when it's on but when it turns off it won't come back on. I've searched a lot and there are thousands of people with the same problem, yet i see no youtuber commenting on this situation and Samsung doesnt answer. The TV goes into sleep/standby mode and cuts the internet connection making it impossible to find via any of these apps.

Make sure the TV is connected with wireless. The LAN port turns completely off when the TV is off.

@@HelpCloud It is always connected through Wi-Fi still doesn't work. It basically only works in the first 1-2 minutes after being turned off and then never again. Even in those 1-2 minutes when I can turn it on with SmartThings, Google Assistant can never find it, it always say the TV is not active.

Hi I have an non smart Samsung tv with a chromecast and it’s all set up via google home but I can’t get the voice assistance to turn the tv off it only turns the chromecast off leaving the tv just on a blank screen, Iv seen I think it’s to do with the hdmi not being cec or something, like newer TVs are hdmi cec , do you know any way to get around this with an adapter or something maybe ? ,

You would need to have the newer TV that supports the signal to turn the TV off.

2019 model and it can't barley do anything. Only way for my Google nest to play music is on its own speakers because it can't open Spotify or KZfaq on the tv. This sucks...

Soo my new 9 series 55 inch samsung smart tv still shows as a switch (the new crystal qled 2020 edition) anything i can do to this so it can change? It also says that it's disconnected in the smartthings app for some reason and if i ask "hey google, stream this on youtube on livingroom tv" (name of the tv is livingroom tv) then it'll saythat it can stream yt or netflix but that there's no link in the google home app yet

Is there any possibility to do this with LG TV (WebOS)? I use a Tuya Smart Infrared Hub and it worked fine. But now Google Assistant has stopped controlling the TV and only turns it on/off. It doesn't change channels or increase/lower volume.

the mini detects it but the tv doesn't respond to google voice commands when it used to . Thinking of returning this mini. So far its caused the voice commands for my Sony android to stop working. before it responded to all google commands now it doesn't respond at all to voice commands. even off and on . have to use the remote now

@@HelpCloud checked for updates on Android TV confirmed. Reset Google assistant on TV. Power cycled TV. Power cycled mini that I purchased yesterday. Removed an added TV to Google mini hub. TV shows commands on screen and says ok but nothing happens. Prior to adding mini TV would respond to Google commands.

Right after I authorize it says that it's logging in and then that it's connecting to the smart things account. Right after that it goes back to the screen in which you can choose between new device and previously set up devices. When I go back to the home screen of the Home app, literally nothing's changed. There's no sign that my TV has been connected.

Hi I have a 2019 7 Series Samsung, Google Nest Mini and IPhone. UK. I cannot get the nest to play Netflix. It accepts the command and says it is casting, but the TV does not cast. Any suggestions?

HelpCloud Yeah, I did try redoing it. I checked on the chromecast site, and apparently Samsung TV’s do not have built in Chrome Cast capability. Samsung isn’t on the list of TV’s they have on their site. Thoughts?

I loved the video, but I have a slight problem, my google home cannot turn the tv on. I can turn the tv off with my google home, but I cannot turn it on. I can also adjust the volume and change the channel, but I just can't turn my tv on, and I have a Samsung 6 QLED 2020. Also a new update came on samsung tv that the google assistant is finally available, and I can talk to my remote and the tv can adjust the thermostat and stuff, but i just want to turn my tv on, any help??

Hm, bought Samsung QE50QN90, and google assistance works. but my nest can only turn on, and off TV. If i want open netflix or youtube it says at, he dont know which device i want to use, worlds like "play bla bla on youtube on Tv" not working. there is any solution? Struggling few hours with it.

Hey, thanks for the video. Have you had any issues getting your Google Home Mini executing actions like getting the TV to open Netflix and play a specific show? I'm running into those issues right now. I set the TV as the "Default TV" in my Google Nest Speaker's settings but still can't get things to work. The Google Nest Speaker is doing fine with commands like turning on/off, volume changes, and HDMI changes. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing this. I have a Samsung 8 series 65 from 2017. I could connect it to my Google Home app through the Smart Things app. I did unlink it again and reconnected it. Google Assistant can switch off my TV now but it won't switch it on. I have a wireless connection though but still. Can you please help? Thanks so much again!

I got it to work with my TV and I can turn it off/on, change inputs and even change volume but only for the TVs inbuilt speaker. Is there anyway to get Google to change volume on the TVs connected soundbar?

Had the same problem, but I managed to find the same setting. At least for me I needed to click on the google account icon in the very top right corner, then assistant settings, and then your data in the assistant where you can find web & app activity.
