It should called but more than one person has to call it. Rules should be followed. No matter if it wouldn’t have mattered at all. Need more eyes on the players when watching… referees??? You got people spotting and calling out of bounds why not call out the players. The people playing shouldn’t have to call out other players that just adds more tension on all the players on that card, so if someone else calls it out you don’t feel embarrassed.

Yeah, we’ll probably not be in a spot to call it consistently until we have other people ruling for it / more strict rules related to it (I.e., if they did not allow the pivot to contact the disc).

Hailey's desire to win, clouded her judgment. She isn't playing a rec league here. She understands the mechanics of a throw, and every pro is releasing at 10 oclock....no one is pivoting before release. I'd bet my car that, now removed from the situation, she realizes that was a bad call.

HK is young, hopefully she grows through this and matures. The proper thing going forward is for people to be quick to forget and move on. The PDGA should change the rule so that the petty foot fault calls dont give the sport a bad reputation. Its one of those ticky-tack rules anyway. You can choose to lay a marker in front of your front edge or leave the disc there. So, when a foot fault occurs on the thrown disc by your foot contacting the disc whereas you could have been allowed another 10" with a mini further forward it just baffles me. The rule should be changed to say that your foot cannot cross the front plane/edge of your marker before you release the disc and that any contact with, or on the disc during the throw is legal as long as the foot does not cross the front edge of the lie before release. Its that front lie that truly matters in all reality because you are allowed to mark the disc at the front edge and move the thrown disc after marking. Theres no advantage whatsoever if your foot bumps the marker or lands on it. Missy did the right thing, they played on and, regardless of if she could have had taken a penalty there or not, she still wins. The real loser here is the PDGA for not having better and more lax foot contact rules that dont allow petty attempts of fault finding to throw shade on the sport.

TBH when I saw the throw in this video I thought "oh there's the foot fault". Then you slowed it down and it changed my mind. I don't doubt it was an honest call. @@forgesportsmedia yes and this is why these calls have to be seconded to be valid, it's not enough for one person to think its a footfault. 1 cardmate calls but another cardmate has to second it before it can be enforced. It's very easy after the fact with the benefits of camera angles and slow motion replay to say no it was not a foot fault. But throws are happening fast, and if the disc moved that's because her foot touched it, and if her foot touched the disc PRIOR to the disc leaving her hand, then it would be a foot fault. I don't think it's petty, and that is the reason why these things have to be seconded, because there are close calls like this where one person might think they saw something, someone from a different position doesn't. But ultimately this is just another example of precisely why there needs to be professional certified officials making these calls, NOT players, because you can look through the comments and see people hating on Hailey and saying she is being petty for attempting to follow the rules.
@MegaFlorest
@MegaFlorest Ай бұрын
She wasn't trying to follow the rules...she was trying to win. You can't tell with the naked eye exactly when the disc left the hand and the foot made contact on MOST foot fault debates. They're always way too close to call.
@clintsawyer7702
@clintsawyer7702 Ай бұрын
@@MegaFlorest well apparently not everyone is blessed with your supernatural cognizance to be able to read minds and know without a doubt what people's motives are... The rest of us have to go by the fact of that she is playing a tournament of which players are also the officiators, and the person throwing kicked their marker very close to the time the disc was leaving their hand. And please point out in the rules where it says you are not allowed to make a call if it is "too close to call". Because it seems to me that the entire purpose behind requiring someone to second the call is so that it requires input from other players who may have another view. If you were only allowed to make calls that are blatant violations, what would be the purpose of requiring a second?
@MegaFlorest
@MegaFlorest Ай бұрын
@@clintsawyer7702 It isn't mind reading, its just by far, the most reasonable assumption. You know King understands disc throwing mechanics: she's an excellent player, who has spent time on her form. And it was clear that Gannon din't grip lock that shot, it was on target, meaning she released it BEFORE the pivot, when her foot went over her lie. Are you saying you call footfaults when you weren't sure whether the player footfaulted or not? That's like calling a courtesy violation because you think the player muttered "fuck" to themselves...but you couldn't quite make it out. And on that note, lets say Gannon had a courtesy violation warning earlier during the round, and then whispered to herself "hell fucking yes!" after that throw. You don't see it as petty for King to call that, to get the win?

I have no reason to doubt that Hailey saw a foot fault. This is why it needs to be backed up. The rules worked like they should. Now as for the rules and enforcement of foot faults in this type of situation where the player is doing a run up, I don't think players should be called unless it is egregious or if it looks like the player did it in order to get an advantage. Same with foot faults coming off the front of the tee pad.

Maybe you are right. Unless I have evidence, I try to assume the best in people. Maybe you know Hailey. Maybe you know her to be a bad faith actor. That's legit however, just because the replay did not show a foot fault does not mean that Hailey did not "see" one. The human mind is funny, people "see" different things all the time. Also, maybe there actually was a foot fault. The only angle I saw did not show a foot fault but it also did not eliminate beyond all doubt that there was one.

Anyone who regularly watches live FPO coverage knows you'll see MULTIPLE foot faults every single day of live coverage that are never called by card mates. Every seasoned disc golfer knows that this happens where your foot follows through and hits the disc.....they need to change the size of the area so this doesn't happen.....change the size length wise so as to give more room, but not so width wise because that keeps players from throwing around an obstacle they may be directly behind.....it serve absolutely no purpose to have a player to throw from such a close point from behind the disc

I think Hailey’s intentions were pure to the game, and it was her responsibility to call a foot fault if she thought it was indeed a fault. I think her caddie confirmed what she saw and then she called it. Being down 3 basically she could’ve said oh well, but she is a competitor and I can’t argue with a will to win. I will never cheer for HK again. Not only was it petty, it was clearly wrong on video, and there's no way HK could have honestly judged that any contact of MG's foot with the disc occurred prior to release of the thrown disc. When HK is saying on video "the disc popped up" - no, it didn't at all, so why is she claiming it did? She appears to be being dishonest at that point. Look, footfault minutia in disc golf has about as much relevance to the key elements of disc golf as the minute legalities of a throw-in have to soccer. Decent refs ignore tiny debatable throw-in infractions for this reason. Unless you are trampling on your disc or mini, which honestly should negatively impact your throw, nothing has changed but a fraction of an inch of distance on your throw on a minior touch of your foot to the marker. I can understand being a little more strict on the putting foot fault rules, where an inch can matter. I also get the principle of throwing from behind your mark, but if it isn't blatant I'm neither calling nor seconding it.

@kazmyer3084 even Terry said that he thought it was OB before the card came up. I trust him as an unbiased third party with the same POV as the card. Can’t call BS if it’s a game of millimeters when you could’ve been much safer off the tee. Self-imposed danger

Petty to the point of poor sportsmanship. Missy is such a nice sweet person, and so fair. Congrats Missy!

Is she sweet and fair? It seems there are friendly cliques that wink at infractions amongst themselves. And let's not talk about the shade pulled on Kristin.

@@theairportstuff Tell me why you think MG would not be fair minded? And can you name the 'players' that wink at infractions? Explain. Obviously the throw was legal, in no uncertain terms. Hailey was rightfully over-ruled by the officials. Anyone could see the disc had already released from MG's hand- 'well before' her foot was near the disc. Not just a petty attempt at getting a stroke when behind, but outright poor sportsmanship. There is something called honor in DG.

Super petty. Foot faults happen quite a bit. I feel the main purpose to call someone on it, is if they are gaining an advantage on their lie or if its too obvious to stay quiet. HK was upset and decided to be a Karen. Bad look. Double L

This isn't NAM. There are rules. MG hit the disc with her foot on the throw. Hailey had every right to call a foot fault

If she's consistently trying to call foot faults by the rules, however petty or trivial some may view that, I could maybe respect that. But if she chose this moment to call a dubious foot fault then that's extremely shady.

Should have penalized Hailey for unsportsmanlike conduct with that petty attempt to win a tournament.

Hard one to call when foot faults are probably called far too infrequently to begin with haha. Even though I agree that the call was not close one to begin with

That's extreme. Anyone is allowed to call a foot fault. If the rest of the card doesn't agree you move on.
@Gerbs964
@Gerbs964 Ай бұрын
@@FizzyP it's a cheap shot, it's like throwing a left hook to the back of the head at the end of the 12th round in an attempt to cripple your opponent because you know you have no other options left, its incredibly dirty and a really bad look for Hailey King.
@FizzyP
@FizzyP Ай бұрын
@@Gerbs964 Maybe so or maybe it's an honest call. To me it looked like a foot fault until they replayed it. She kicked her disc. Regardless of which it is, what I said is still true: anyone can call a foot fault and the card can agree or not. You can't punish someone for calling a foot fault even if you personally suspect bad motives.
