Just built this today and it works great. Bought everything but the box from Amazon. I plan on designing and printing a custom box. It’s meant to be a portable fluid pump for whatever. I also thought about using it in a camp shower.

Cool, watch the update video and the other conversion I did on a different model. They're both still working great. I just put down another 40 gallon application of pre emergent herbicide!

I like it, might try make one of these, will probably put a push to make button on a 50cm lead for the left hand and have the wand on the right.

You can mount the box and pump on opposite sides so the switch is accessible and the wand is on the other side. The pump will have to go head towards the back due to the flow direction but an easy change.

What I like about doing your own conversion is you're not limited to proprietary parts. Any generic 12v pump will work. Thanks for commenting!

Nice tidy build mate. I’ve just done one very similar but added a pwm speed controller to let me dial in the desired pressure at the nozzle to control droplet size and flow rate.

Nice! I've thought about adding a T and a nozzle inside the tank so you can agitate the mix using the pump.

What PWM speed controller did you purchase? I'm looking to keep my pressure at 10 psi or less. I think this is the ticket. Thanks!

@@EdRockwell I’ve tried posting a link twice but it keeps getting removed. Really any dc one that has a higher amp rating than your fuse should do. Mine cost about AU$10

Great tutorial, exactly what I was looking for ! I am pretty sure DeWalt, Milwaukee and etc well known brand batteries already come with built-in BMS so no need for extra circuit to prevent discharge. A few bucks to save and less things to fail.

My understanding is that Milwaukee batteries do but not the other brands. But I'm not certain.

Do I have to remove the existing manual pump that is inside my sprayer or can I just cut the existing hose and add the pump like you did? You didn't show how to do this part. I see your pump handle is removed but unsure if you did anything else to the manual pump. I have a Chapin 62000 backpack pump I want to convert. Please advise...

Ok. So I found your other video (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ob2PYMuAlb2re4E.html) that explains how my Chapin 6200 backpack sprayer works and I can now easily convert it to electric pumping.

At the 19:00 there's a wiring diagram, not sure what you're looking for. The switch also came with decent instructions if you want to wire it differently.

How did you attach the plastic piece to the sprayer base?

The black plastic sheet was cut to shape using a jigsaw and sanded to make the edges smooth. Then I drilled through the plastic into the metal tube frame and pop riveted it on. I only drilled through the top of the tube, not all the way through if that makes sense.

The fuse is a good idea, but the dewalt batteries have a built in BMS that protects them from over charge and discharge as well as over heating. This just seems overkill. Also, the pump is rated for 24 volts. How does it run without the buck converter.

The DeWalt batteries do not have the discharge protection built in. See here: www.dewalt.com/why-dewalt/featured-articles/best-practices-for-battery-life The pump is rated 12 to 24 volts so it works just fine on 18/20 stepped down to 12. That's how voltage on DC motors works, the V input changes the speed of the motor. Hope this helps!

@@petedymond the link you sent does not say they don't have a discharge protection. It just states they should not be completely discharged. I have old brushed 20v, 18v converted to 20 and new brushed 20v tools. When the battery gets too warm or down to 1 bar, it stops working. I am still pretty sure the bms like most protects against complete discharge or you would see everyone switching to other manufacturers. The added circuit is a nice addition, but still don't think it is necessary. Would still like to see how the pump runs without the buck.

1 year later, curious if you’ve had any issues with leaking on either of yours. Many of the name brand reviews are abysmal. Which led to wondering if diy might be better and finding your tutorials.

No leaks, no issues at all, except the one I made for my friend the solder joint I made on the fuse holder failed, but that's down to my poor soldering skills. My concern with buying a battery sprayer is exactly what yours are. Premature failure means manufacturer proprietary parts. So far so good

@petedymond thank you for the update. I'm mostly annoyed by my manual pump because of how long it takes to prime the system. I've tried a few ways to get it to prime and get the air out but to no avail. Thanks again!
