Convert Your AWD Trailblazer SS to RWD for Under $100!!

I decided to convert my AWD Trailblazer SS to RWD! In this video I show you how I did the conversion for less than $100! I hope this video is helpful if you want to do this on your TBSS as well. It is very simple and is the most cost effective way to convert to RWD without swapping your transmission. See below for part information.
Transfer case: NVG226 (NP8) from base Trailblazer or Envoy
Transfer case fluid: Valvoline full synthetic transfer case fluid (must be compatible with GM Auto Trak), approx 2.5qts needed for drain and refill
Transfer case adapter gasket: ACDelco P/N - 15642511

Came to your channel for the g37 sunroof drain fix as my my son recently bought an 09 g37s rwd! Thumbed through you channel & notice you have TBSS also & so do I so DEFINITELY SUBBED!!!! Great video on converting as well!!!

You bought yours new? I love this thing, so much fun! Even more fun now that its 2wd. Don't really need AWD in Florida anyway.

@@kova_motive yes sir in 2006. I'm in South Carolina and don't need it here either not sure why I didn't think about going 2wd. Would have saved weight also. Look on my channel and some videos way down we did have some snow here many years ago and I actually took it out in it. And I never drove it in the rain up until that point but was so worth it. What did it take to get the front axles out? Do you just remove remove them on each side and then drain the front diff and you're good? Also is this transfer case only found in the 5.3 models, or is it the same in the 6 cylinder models as well? Great vid btw!

I am doing this to my 2006 Trailblazer. As I was thinking about things could you leave the front driveshaft in place?. If the transfer case is in 2WD the front driveshaft is not engaged and there would be no gears turning in the front differential. Thanks

I'm trying to get the TC into 2wd and am thinking Im missing something. Im turning the inner shaft all the way clockwise and it has some springback. It wont stay turned all the way and when I turn the input shaft the forward output shaft still spins. Any ideas?

Is there a way to add the switch and make it selectable? Would love to have rwd to have fun but want the awd for new England winters..

I think you'd need to get your transfer case control module either re-flashed or replaced for selectable 4wd and then get those prop shaft sensors wired up to the TCCM as well as get wiring from the 4wd dash switch back to the TCCM under the rear seat (I think). A GM dealer should be able to re-flash the module for an hour labor and the pigtails for the 4wd switch and the prop sensors can be found at the dealer or some aftermarket parts stores. Wiring diagram for the TCCM can be found online.

I’ve got the same question. That part seemed to be kinda glazed over. Disassembling the CV might work as an axle stub? Not sure. Have a new set on hand. Got my selectable transfer case in 2wd high sitting here with a new gasket ready to go in.

@@maxxflow84 After watching the vid again, I'm thinking he didn't remove the front cv's...though he said he did...seems to be how these install vids go when you realize you can't do what you thought you could...fake it till you make it!

Take the cv axles out cut the ends off and bolt back in as stubs, if your looking to remove the front diff completely the easiest way is to drop the oil pan... to drop the oil pan you need to remove 2 crossmember in the fronttake the bolts out of the front diff on each side the passenger side will need taken completely apart to pull the shaft out and the drivers will just sit to the side. You will then need to disconnect the tierod from the passenger side then drop the passenger side of the rack and pinion so it's at an angle and gives clearance to take the oil pan bolts out you will also need to take the bolts from the ac compressor to the oil pan out but wont effect the compressor or need to remove. Dont forget to drain them fluids or your gonna get soaked. Anyone can hit me up on FB if you need help.

Instead of replacing the transfer case, has anyone tried removing any 4x4/awd related fuses (along with front axles) to potentially make the transfer case function as rwd?

This system is mechanically controlled, not electronic. Just removing front driveshaft would render it un drivable.

Nice tbss I have an 06 silver rwd tbss bought it with 156,000 I’ve done long tubes, headers, e fans, trans cooler and c6 oil pan swap so far myself. Debating on caming it. I was wondering how much did you pay for yours at 122,000 got mine for 7800. Also subscribed

Awesome, sounds like we'll have similar builds. I have speed engineering headers waiting to go on and will definitely do a cam and stall/trans. Your exhaust combo sounds super clean, one of the best sounding for our trucks. Sounds like you got a deal on yours for sure. I paid closer to 15 wit 90k miles. It was mint so I thought the price was fair.

Man u have to put a selector switch in somehow to shift the transfer case no point in having an ss if u can't shift to AWD when u want then back to 2wd for daily driving
