Converting a 1949-1953 Ford to Disc Brakes!

In this video I convert my 1949 Ford to disc brakes, and switch to a hanging brake pedal with a firewall mounted booster and master cylinder. Both conversion kits are from Auto City Classic. The disc brake conversion and my dropped uprights didn't work perfectly together, and required some slight modification. My hanging pedal conversion also will need some modification in the future.

Bro the stance on your car is perfect. I'm in the process of rebuilding my uprights with new kingpins and flipping them at the same time so I'm hoping to sit about the same. Watching this video kind of seals the deal on me going to disk brakes.

@@minnesotamotors Hey man quit question for you. When you did the fatman uprights, were the pins super tight to get in-and-out of the bushings? Just got mine and I have to twist the pins back and forth to get them in or out, they're too tight to just push out

For the front steel lines did you use the factory split on top of the driver side flex hose that runs the passenger line from it?

I’m pretty sure I did, I can’t remember and the car is in storage right now

@@minnesotamotors was just wondering. I have mine set up that way and it pulls. They say I need to run the factory GM stile proportion valve that also gives the front left and right there own supply lines.

Thanks for sharing your video. I have a 1951 Ford Custom 8 Cyl, and brake pedal went down. Do you know where I can buy the original parts? Brake pump etc.

How did the set up work out for ya? I believe you actually messaged me on the shoebox forum about the swing pedal. I run the 52 firewall mounted set up with 4 way drum. After 110,000 miles of daily driving I’m actually thinking of going with the Jegs cheep front brake kit since now drums coast over 100$ each

Stops very well! I actually feel safe driving the car now, haven’t put too many miles on, but I’m very happy with everything so far

extending the brake arm will give you the wrong ratio and will make the pedal move too far to be legal
