Cooking ALL TotK meals BEFORE the first Blood Moon

Thanks to the Upheaval's new ingredients, we can now cook 30 new foods in Hyrule!! Let's traverse all stretches of the map to hunt, gather, and cook our way against the first blood moon!!
(Blood moons happen every ~3 hours of active gameplay)

mhm for anyone that didn’t know the game makes a blood moon happen before entering any of the 4 regional phenomena areas. it probably is for the story reason monsieur crouton suggested, but i see it working gameplay-wise too as you’d have every enemy respawn by the time you’re supposed to start the questlines (for instance, getting to a couple of the temples wouldn’t be as fun or challenging if you accidentally wander in early and kill the enemies)

@renoirrr The majority of enemies in the temple segments are constructs, which don't respawn with blood moons! Therefore I don't really think it was for gameplay reasons (plus most normal players will never make it to the dungeon areas pre first blood moon)

@@Croton oh that’s fair! i didn’t pick up on that they don’t respawn with blood moons so that’s another new thing i learnt about the game. i kinda assumed they were the same as guardians in botw. other than that i think you can make it to the wind temple without needing tulin or starting the quest tho. its ofc a bit harder but maybe a player accidentally wandered in thinking it was just a higher level area. Again, i could be wrong. i havent done it without tulin myself so i cant really know but from what i’ve seen this seems to be possible.

the Zelda-aware blood moon is really interesting. i wonder if seeing zelda with captain gaz (i think that's his name if i'm remembering right) after starting lookout landing would fulfill that built in requirement.

Funnily enough, I think the gloom hands in Lindor's Brow cave are the only ones that won't despawn just by having Link stand on high ground

UGH I know 😭😭i remember when the game first came out and everyone was recommending that you stay out of their reach so they despawn and it wasn’t working for me and I didn’t know why 💔

@@-astraldove- I think the Lindor's Brow gloom hands was the first or second time we encountered them so we assumed they all just never went away unless you beat them. So cue our surprise when other gloom hands despawned when we climbed something and stayed out of reach. We were so confused at first lol.

If you stay in the depths before 9:00 PM until then, it'll cancel the blood moon. If you stay there until midnight if you don't make it it'll cancel it out, like Yiga Hideout or Hyrule Castle in BotW

The thing I love the most about BoTW and TotK is they can make simple tasks like cooking feel so relaxing and fun like your on one of those channels where they go out into the wild and use what they find to cook.

The Panic Blood Moon detail is very interesting. I'm wondering how it works in All Dungeons speedruns. Ideally you would be through maybe two temples before getting a blood moon, but this mechanic forces one, right? IIRC in BotW AD speedruns, they could infinitely postpone the bloodmoon because you're always in a Divine Beast or Castle when midnight hits

In BOTW, there was an in-game timer/mechanic which made it impossible for a blood moon to spawn until after you completed the Great Plateau. Do we know if the mechanic is still present in TOTK?

It is true with the Great Sky Island!! The timer still ticks here, but if time is up while you are still on it, the bloodmoon will be delayed till you reach the surface!

true but it's a mechanic I don't see used often I used it to clear out all enemies but the zonai type enemies due to those being on a respawn timer separate from blood moon

25:00 Actually, you cant kill yourself with gloom weapons, if you attack with one heart, it wont be gloomified, so you can use it to your heart's content! so its like the one hit obliterator, you do a ton of damage but die in one shot.

@@Croton not to mention as well, if you fuse a gloom weapon to a regular weapon, it also won’t take away gloom, letting you use the gloom weapons like normal weapons!

That's how I typically use the gloom weapons actually, whenever I fight a phantom ganon I always fuse the weapon with my master sword to give it a nice boost!

I've been imagining Equipment challenges where you can only use gear from a specific Zelda title. Like doing Ocarina of Time, where you can only use: Korok Swords (as it's like the Kokiri sword), sticks, Hylian Shield, basic Boko shields, (like the Deku shield), Master Sword, Hero of Time clothes, Sledgehammer (like the Magaton), Flamebreaker Armour (like the Goron tunic), Zora Armour, Boomerangs, a basic Wooden Bow (the one in Kakariko village behind the fletcher) or arrows, Fire arrows, Ice arrows, Light arrows, bombs, and the Biggoron Sword.

Is it considered cheating to skip the blood moon by being in a shrine or the depths at midnight? You can postpone the blood moon pretty much indefinitely that way.

I could not have done this challenge because I got a blood moon the very first night after leaving the island... and I left it just before sunset. 2:55 Oil jars actually can be found in the wild. There is an abandoned campsite somewhere in the Gerudo Desert with plenty of jars lying around.

Experimentation! Trying out new things, and actively utilizing knowledge shared online (Gamespots things you didn't know series is really good for this!)

Doing such challenges are nowadays very easy, you can just spend the whole time in a chasm to avoid a blood moon. I think you should try a challenge where you go out and annihalate every monster without letting them respawn from a Blood Moon

You could delay the moon in BotW too, with shrines and the castle! I just don't include any delays in my normal blood moon runs I did do a killing all enemies pre blood moon run in BotW though - looking forward to doing a TotK version soon!
