Cooking Chanko Nabe with Daboki ~ THE SUMO STEW

Күн бұрын

Decided to cook up a Japanese dish called chanko nabe. It's a very popular stew for sumo wrestlers. I think it's because of the high calorie intake, and the insane amount of ingredients you can put in, but also a really healthy and clean dish that makes it really enjoyable for these athletes. I absolutely love soups and this one hit home for me.
Lets build a soup together~
Thank you so much for watching, much love one love

A 27 min cooking vlog? What a way to start the week end. Looks delish! I love those homie “easily customizable” dish where you just throw everything together and as long as you follow basic guidelines it never taste the exact same but its always good! I also appreciate seeing someone who knows how to enjoy food. I live with someone who always eats the same and never tries anything new, but as a result food never excite him. I cook a bunch and sometimes it fails lol but other times its so tasty that it makes me happy to be alive. It's a joy I wouldn't give up for anything.

Yahowee! Awesome way to start the long holiday weekend with more an extra long cooking with Chef Sumo Boki episode 👨‍🍳 The dish does feel a lot like chonky hot pot as you mentioned 😂 and sounds like a great idea during the colder months. I'm amazed that you managed to speak for almost the entire length of the video, even with a full mouth. Thank you for sharing the experience as always. Enjoy your Seattle trip and hope to see you again soon!! o/

Daboki, that stew looks absolutely mouthwatering. I would like to try making it. However, I beg to differ with your comments about eating out of a communal dish. East Asians do not eat and drink out of a communal dish like it’s their personal eating bowl. A ladle is used for serving soup. Personal spoons are never dipped into the serving bowl. In addition, serving spoons are used. There’s no poking around the soup with personal chopsticks. What you demonstrated is a bachelor eating out of an electric frypan as his personal utensil. As you implied, you would not share that meal with anyone else.

Sumo-Inspired Keto Chankonabe Chanko Nabe is a traditional Japanese hot pot dish that is popular among sumo wrestlers and commonly associated with their high-calorie diets. However, it can be modified to fit a keto diet by reducing or omitting high-carb ingredients. Here's a keto-friendly Chanko Nabe recipe: Ingredients: 1 pound (454 grams) boneless chicken thighs, sliced 1 pound (454 grams) lean beef (such as sirloin or tenderloin), thinly sliced 1 pound (454 grams) pork tenderloin or thinly sliced pork belly 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth (preferably homemade or low-sodium) 2 cups water 1 tablespoon avocado oil 3 cloves of garlic, minced 1 ½-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated 1 ½ cups sliced mushrooms (such as shiitake, cremini, oyster, or enoki) 1 cup watercress 2 cups spinach 1 ½ tablespoons fish sauce (check for low-carb options) Salt and pepper to taste Optional seasonings: chili flakes, lime juice (to taste) Instructions: Heat avocado oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add the sliced chicken thighs, beef, and pork to the pot and cook until browned on all sides. This should take approximately 5-7 minutes. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth (6 cups) and water (2 cups). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 20-25 minutes until the meats are cooked through and tender. Add sliced mushrooms, watercress, and spinach to the pot. Continue simmering for an additional 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender. Season with fish sauce, salt, and pepper according to your taste preferences. For additional flavor variations, consider adding soy sauce, sesame oil, chili flakes, or lime juice to taste. Serve the modified Chanko Nabe hot, allowing everyone to ladle out the broth, protein, and vegetables into individual bowls. Notes: Adjust the serving size based on individual preferences and appetites. The recipe can serve approximately 4 to 6 people, depending on portion sizes and the desired level of satiety. Estimaten Macros Total net carbs: Approximately 8-10 grams Protein: Approximately 180-200 grams Fat: Approximately 50-60 grams Calories: Approximately 1300-1500 calories

FYI the authentic chanko nabe does not have pork or beef in it. Only chicken. There is a superstition that adding meats of 4 legged animals is bad luck. The sumo wrestler that is standing on two legs wins the match, while the one on all fours loses... so if you add beef or pork it becomes a regular nabe. Sumo wrestlers eat pork and beef but never in a chanko...

Awesome video as always I can literally watch anything you make :). Love you Daboki thank you for keeping me entertained for so many years. Anytime you take a shot of anything tap the bottom of the shot glass/cup on the table, it’s suppose to keep the spirits out. Since alcohol is also known as spirits. Certain religions believe this keeps evil spirits from entering your body and causing you do to do stupid things when you drink.

Is there in Asia no dining etiquette? Slurping and smacking your mouth, moaning like a woman after you take a bite to project that you are enjoying yourself or speaking while having food in your mouth is considered rude and quite lot of people atleast here in England take it as very negative or disgusting. I guess it's not that big of a deal for me, but I feel like person who is abnoxiously loud on purpose doesn't have the awareness towards others, but otherwise I generally don't care, but because you doing almost all of the big NO NOs, I just would like yo genuinely ask. I am genuinely curious if none of that is an issue in Asia or if it's even expected as a form of admiration for tasty food? Also if you have family gathering let's say 15 people.. does everybody chew loudly, moans and speak with mouth full? There is also another phenomenon I see in videos when there is Asian person and that is eating super fast like they are in the race... They can finish bowl of ramen in 30 seconds... (You dont seem to have that particular issue) But I am genuinely curious, absolutely no hate
