In this video, I demonstrate how I use my Inverter to make some coffee, as well as make breakfast using the Induction stove while dry camping. I only have 250 amp hours of Lithium batteries and wished I had at least 500 amp hours. I have 600 watts of solar, and ideally 1200 watts of solar would be needed based on the large amount of electricity that my family uses. When we dry camp, we really like to utilize the RV like a home instead of camping only.

Nice to see how the man is doing some cooking and training your kid at the same time, I have one panel of solar charging but just normal batteries no inverter but like to install one in the future so I can use some power without plug into shore power or run the generator, have not figure out how the solar control panel work yet, still in the learning process of everything else. Thanks for making another video.

Having an inverter and lithium batteries is definitely a bonus. That way you can at least use some power without running the generator each time. Let me know if you ever need some help.

Another great video! So what campground is that? Beautiful mountains. Did you have any interference with your Starlink? Looks like there were a few trees around that site. Did you keep it mounted on the roof?
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy Жыл бұрын
That's the South Campground at Zion National Park. There were trees, but you just need a small opening that faces North so we had no issues. I have left it on the roof for the past 8000+ miles with no issues. There have been a couple of areas where trees were slightly in the way, so we either moved the RV slightly, or dealt with the intermittent signal. 99% of the time, it has been flawless including while driving.

@@markanthonymunoz9241does yours have the diesel or propane gen? If diesel, do you have at least 1/4 tank of fuel or more? What is not working? Is the starter engaging or reaction from the generator? Need some more details and hopefully I can point you the right way

@@rvlifediy Good morning thank you for time, mine is diesel, I tried this morning and it works, i just ran the main engine and start the genset. Yesterday the engine was running for almost 3 hours in an idle while waiting to get onbaord the ferry. I hope that's the reason. Thanks
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy Жыл бұрын
@@markanthonymunoz9241 the generator runs off the house battery under the stairs and not the chassis batteries under the drivers ft area. If your house batteries are too low, it won't have enough power for the generator starter. When you are running the sprinter engine, it sends a charge to the house batteries which may give it enough charge to start the generator if the house batteries are too low.

Great video, keep them coming....... I learned from it that the shore and generator automatically activate the charger/inverter, something that I did not know about my 22d. I have upgraded to the Bluetooth control panel so that changing settings is much easier. I have heard that going to the custom settings gets you closer to the battery manufacture's charge specifications (rather than a generic group of settings), but I am not sure where to find the correct settings for my SOK 206 batteries (I two stuffed under the entry step). So far I seldom use my QD generator and have not heard the surging sound of which you speak, but I should make a change to my charge settings to optimize the charging function better. Again, great video.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy Жыл бұрын
The surging is almost too faint to tell. The best way to check would be with a true battery monitor that can monitor real time instant activity. Best way I can describe the QD surging is that the motor doesn't sound perfectly smooth and there is a slight rythmic pattern you would have to purposely try to hear. I didn't discover it until about 1 year in and it happens when the sun is out. So if you are running in the evening and the sun in lower on the horizon, you solar may not be putting out enough current to impact it. Also, it may be due to my Lithionics batteries. I'm not sure the exact cause. Currentconnected.com has SOK battery voltage charge you can check.

Great video we just came back from the wkd boondocking so we are very familiar with our power conservation , enjoyed your cooking class , my wife and i are curious as where do you store your kuerig coffee maker ? just cant seem to find a fgood spot to store it

It has been in the exact location you see in the video since day 1. I have it on there with alien tape, and can remove it anytime with a slow gentle nudge. My wife prefers it being elsewhere so she can get a better view, but I haven't made it to that part of the list yet. If I had to relocate it, I would be on a slide out system under the sink up a little higher. I added a power strip under the sink that connects to the microwave outlet so it could plug into there. Then you can slide it out to fill water/brew, and slide it back in when done.

I learned something today from your video. I have a similar setup in my 22v. I had a scare last time boondocking. I was running Generator and had the inverter on powering both the A/C and convection microwave at the same time. Suddenly my generator shut off and I looked at the Onan monitor and it says short circuit. I think that my inverter should have been turned off. Maybe excess overload? Set a goodness I was able to reset power to the RV and restart the generator and the alarms all cleared. Keep the videos coming, thank you!
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy Жыл бұрын
In that scenario, it was overloading the generator due to the AC, microwave, and "battery charging". The button on the inverter panel will not fix that. When boondocking, the charger will put out 80amps to the battery so adding the AC and the microwave will overload it. Couple of ways to get around that is to run one appliances at a time or change the charge setting on the inverter/charger to lower amps (defeats the purpose though as you probably want to charge the batteries as fast as you can). The button won't do anything. You have to manually go into the menu of the inverter and reduce the max amp setting but then it will charge your batteries slower. You will have to pick the lesser of the need.

@@rvlifediy @commshopctr another way of preventing the inverter/charger from charging the batteries is to turn the black and white rotary switch near the coach door to off. This is quicker and easier that reprogramming the Xantrex interter/charger. Just remember to turn that rotary switch back on once you're done using the other appliances so that your batteries charge.

Any plan to add some lithium battery capacity? I find the 250ah capacity not sufficient as well. Even worse, when under 50% state of charge, my inverter would error out when using 1500w water heater because of low battery voltage.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy Жыл бұрын
If I had space that I didn't utilize already, then yes, I would have added 250 amp hours more. Still thinking about it. I may also get a portable power station instead of adding on. Tough decisions. I can go below 30% and still put a heavy load without low voltage warning with my 2 Lithionics batteries. Not sure what batteries you have. Also your inverter may have low voltage settings you can adjust for the alarm. I thought I saw that setting on my Xantrex, but it's been a while since I've looked at the settings.
