I think more intermarriages in Uganda can lead to better nutrition. We Ugandans have our specialised style of cooking eg lemon grass is strictly for adding in tea, pawpaws are only eaten when ripe and moringa is usually treated as any other tree in nature for firewood, shade, fodder or rarely eaten by very few as a herb but combining all that to make soup has been another suprise for me. It's time for us to stop relying on only tomatoes, onions and cooking oil. Thx for the video.

@derrickf2....I think intermarriage with other cultures isn't the immediate or right solution to malnutrition or hunger in most parts of Africa. I think the national governments should send a team of agriculturists to Asia such as China, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and learn from them their good practices in cultivating edible plants to fight hunger and better nutrition. I watched a video some years ago about some African delegates coming to the Philippines to learn farming crops and efficient fishing methods. Most Asians, including the Filipinos, have a wide range of food sources from both plants and animals. This video confirms what a Nigerian student here in the Philippines claimed that she saw some vegetables sold in our local market that they don't eat in Nigeria. For example, the banana heart or blossom from plantains can also be eaten as vegetables. Even the core or pith of the banana can also be eaten as vegetables as ingredients in meat dish. The flowers, the tops and young leaves of squash, and other gourd families can also be eaten as vegetables. Other leafy vegetables include tender or young leaves of cassava, taro, pepper, sweet potato, etc. Eating these plants not only provide good nutrition but also medicinal benefits.

Moringa has these nutrients as stated in webmd: The leaves have 7 times more vitamin C than oranges and 15 times more potassium than bananas. It also has calcium, protein, iron, and amino acids, which help your body heal and build muscle. It's also packed with antioxidants, substances that can protect cells from damage and may boost your immune system.

Mighty proud of our kababayan doing wonders in a far away land. Maybe by just learning which plants can be eaten, can solve a lot of hunger . Cassava, sweet potatoes, white and yellow yams are very popular but less popular there is the Ube, can save generations of children from mass starvation.. We saved a lot of starving Chinese in 1600's from crop failure and famine. Filipinos sent Sweet potatoes to China, of course Spain took the honors. I'm 82 years and56 years in USA, and missing the Philippines.

The biggest reason perhaps why there have been great hunger episodes in Africa especially outside North Africa is that most of the people there don't take advantage of the natural resources that surround them. I am surprised that they don't know that malunggay (moringa) is a vegetable or a green papaya can be also be eaten as a vegetable. In Asia, there have been no episodes of hunger because Asians have very extensive knowledge in edible plants and in fact, eat all parts of the edible plants, from roots to fruits, from stems to flowers, from seeds to peels, etc. In Asia, all parts of animal butchered are consumed, from trotters to heads, from skin to innards, from meat to blood.

I would say lack of knowledge. Sayo na nanggaling na they dont know that moringa is a vegetable dba? Meaning they have lack of knowledge on the things that would benefit them. Not everything, but a few. Cheers.

Here in the Philippines especially in Iloilo we can use the inner white part of banana stem to use as ingredients for chicken tinola and it is very delicious. You can combine banana white inner stem and moringga leaves or banana white inner stem and chilli leaves.

I think what you should do is just to cook a simple tinola without cabbage and lemon grass to remember easily. I came from Africa as well for 7 yrs in Southern Africa and i saw you were doing the right things and not being ashamed to do what you want. Life in Africa is very simple and if you do it right to live there permanently for being smart as you did you will live and improve your life better and enjoy well. I enjoyed my life in Africa associating also with local and foreign people. You are a proud mother and i am sure you will succeed in life and being happy with your beautiful children.
