I have been collecting potion bottles and creating potion art for 20 years. I have over 1000 bottles. I coat my cheap corks on the inward side with Flex Seal (liquid rubber) before sealing the bottle. It helps fill in irregularities in the cork surface. I could use wine bottle quality corks, but they are too expensive to bother with, and the sizes of my bottles are not all the same as wine bottles. Carving cork is time-consuming and messy. (I have more money invested in corks than I do in thrift and craft store bottles.) Straight-neck bottles seal better for liquids. Bottles with an inside lip, (like vases,) are nearly impossible to fully seal, so I use them for dry ingredients, herbs, and powders. I don't use rubber corks because I'm going for the ancient-looking pre-technology wizard vibe.

I don't know why it happened but I can say that I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and I've ben absorbing your videos like a sponge since then. You inspired me to start doing potions myself even though I never did anything that has to do with crafting or DIY before. Thanks to your videos my boring and grey home is slowly turning to becoming more colorful and aesthetically interesting. Thank you very much for your hard work! It really did a difference for me!

imagine a website where you could choose the type of bottle, liquid, swirl or not, color, label, seal etc all that in a graphic animation like a video game where its us, little apprentice making the potion in a apothecary laboratory. and at the end when you have completed the potion you can buy it and its ship to you in a cool cardboard package printed with theme for the product (like a old crate or something like that). It requires probably a lot of work and developing the thing would cost a lot but i'm sure the idea could make a lot of money.

I haven't been through comments yet, but I'd like to share a tip I use. When changing colors in your glue gun, you can use up that waste glue by making seals. Just put a daub of glue on a silicone mat or parchment paper and immediately press with a metal seal. Let it cool enough to touch and pop it off. Now you have a faux seal that can be painted and glued on ribbon or paper with a tiny touch of hot glue later. No wasted glue! I also collect my glue scraps and waste drops to remelt later for sculpting with a junk mini iron used only for that purpose.

Also, do you have labels available for sake as stickers rather than downloads? Lots of folks don't have printers or (like myself) are lazy. I'd love to support a fellow artist and be able to throw more paying customers your way!

thanks for the help. I just made 2 potion bottles props from the book their based off on. What I discovered is its hard to use metalic paint because of the extra ingredients. Since they both used mica powder, I bought some from etsy (warning, one of the sellers says its "5g" but its way too small to be 5 grams). Then after searching online, I found out that home depot also sells rubber corks, however they only come in black (Which is fine for me. Because its an victorian era potion bottle. I didn't use the twine method). I did the distilled water and the oil you mentioned too. So yeah, I'm happy with how they turned out! I made 2 to put on my shelf. I decided to use a glass bottle of the science beaker from Michaels in the Halloween section for the one on the shelf, another is an small plastic bottle I can use for an Halloween costume and not worry about it breaking. Thanks for the help!

Iv been putting aside bottles and wanting to do this for years. I am glad you demystified the using water, demineralized water vs alcohol. I can fix my Nightmare Before Christmas water globe now! if I can get it open! I will use demineralized water and glycerine. And repaint Jack since he is peeling. Thanks for this tutorial. Its really expensive to get supplies in Canada but when you know what you need vs experimenting it saves a lot. I tried making my own body spray with mica and it failed. Now I know you can’t use regular water or 50% alcohol. I might salvage spray with mica by pouring liquid out and putting glycerine demineralized water in it instead.

When the color shift happens on this potion it makes me think of something Ursula from little mermaid might make. It could be. Unfortunate Souls elixir

I just found your channel and I really love how you make your potions. I found a tutorial on Wicked Makers channel and they show how to add a motor and magnets to keep the motion of the potion continual.

When I was a kid I would use skittles and wash all the dye off and it would leave me with kinda a dirty color that really liked well:)

Excellent tutorial... thank you for doing it...! (I'm planning to make a multiple potion rack for my wife, so these tips helped a great deal.) Incidentally, I use the exact same wrapping technique on the leather wraps of the walking sticks I make... and after some discussion with the gent I learned it from, we dubbed it a "faery knot." 😊 Since it's meant to make the ends vanish, it had a nice, magical feel to the name. You're more than welcome to adopt the term, if you like; I'd be honored.

whaaaaaat. I've made potions before for halloween parties- but always edible cocktails in fun little bottles they sell at the craft store. I like the color shifting and wonder if there is a food safe option. I like the ones with a good amount of sprite or 7up in them, the bubbles help agitate things and keep the luster swirls popping. :) And they can be fun mock-tails too for your kiddos and their friends.
