From the archives: Deborah Madison-cookbook author, culinary chef and founder of San Francisco's Green's Restaurant talks about her cookbook. Surprisingly, Madison considers herself a beginner gardner and that became the impetus for the book: Vegetable Literacy.
Madison wondered whether certain plant families would produce complimentary ingredients for her dishes and what that might look like. So, that's the experiment she conducted in her own garden, planting vegetables, herbs and flowers from 12 plant families.
