Without a doubt one of the most creepiest scenes in slasher movie history considering that it shows the girls reaction to the creepy and obscene phone calls from Billy. Add to the fact that the phone calls consist of creepy and weird sound effects and dirty and perverted dialogue makes this scene even more iconic and unforgettable.

If your going by slashers no, but I'd say the German Expressionist, Val Lewton, Universal and Hammer films, Vincent Price films, and early Argento/Fulci films are worth checking out in terms of types of horror movies within a series or the genre. There's plenty of other more specific titles too, but it kind of depends what you look for.

The thing with sequels and remakes of slasher films is they always claim they'll remain serious, but just get more and more ridiculous. That or they keep attempting to make it a horror/comedy or rely on gore and sex and forget the tension. When I think old school I think movies like this. They represented something of the Val Lewton style of using that inner fear of what's around the corner and relying on character and tension to make it scary. Horror movies from the 10's-80's were the best.
