This time, instead of fixing broken things, I'm keeping things from breaking! I got the YoFace V3 Hybrid electric skateboard by Bustin Boards, and the Insta360 ONE X2 camera, both of which need protection. I used 3D scanning to design perfectly fitting mods in Fusion 360! It's certainly better to wear a ten-year-old helmet than no helmet at all, but technically, helmets have expiration dates. Also, they're only really good for one hard fall on the head and should be replaced afterwards, because the internal structure that absorbs the shock is probably cracked and won't work as well the next time you decide to use your face as a brake. Just FYI. Do what thou wilt.

According to another commenter that rule applies to hard foam bike helmets but not so much with soft foam skate helmets. That said, the foam is starting to crumble on this one, so I don't disagree!

Putting the ferro rod under spring pressure to push it slightly outside the edge of the print should let it spark without falling out. It may be better to cut it and mount it longways to get more life out of it. Like the flint in a lighter

@@cnc-maker make a metal cup to hold the rod, put a spring behind it to push it out of the tube (the tube should have a lip to catch the edge of the cup so it isn't pushed all the way out) that way the only thing sticking out should be the rod. Once the rod wears away enough that the tube starts to get ground down, you swap it out with a new one
@cnc-maker
@cnc-maker Жыл бұрын
@@harmonic5107 this requires milling the rod, which produces sparks & heat which is going to be a serious problem, not to mention the amount time that it is going to take to maintain this.

@@cnc-maker why would you need to mill the rod? Shape the cup to fit the rod and have the tube overlap the cup. The rods can remain standard.

There's some listings for hexagon shaped ferro rods, which could be angled to grind across the whole face (also allowing you to protrude only a slight amount, giving a better surface to put load against), a symmetrical hexagon would be the best option for multiple uses. Also drilling and threading holes into the face could be useful for grub screws to go deep, stay clear of wearing down, and allowing an external mounting method.

Loved the video :D I think the main thing the original Tail Devil has over your design is the orientation of the sparky bits. With the multiple short rods poking straight out of the thing, there is a lot more surface area to secure them. Also when they wear, it doesn't affect the attachment point. I see other people are mentioning this too, with much more clarity as well :)

My rule of thumb for EVs is to have the ultimate range be at least 3x the average trip distance so that you aren't completely draining the battery every time you ride it (it's not good for battery longevity to do that (best to keep it around 50% +or-))

Cutting the rod into multiple shorter pieces (4 or 5), and mounting them perpendicular instead of in parallel, would eliminate most of the issues that you ran into. However, this would require a sacrificial print to hold the shorter rods, and it would need to have an adjustable gap between itself and the bottom of the board in order to work with rotating the nuts. You could do this with small adjustable bolts between each of the rods. While this would add some calibration work, it should be minimal, and allow for repeatable results throughout the life of sacrificial print and the rods.

Devin, those insta360 cases and accessories are so cool! I'd say it's not at all niche when looking at the cycling youtubers - I can think of a few channels that can probably get some use out of it. (Pathlesspedaled and other gravel/touring channels come to mind). Just a suggestion, but maybe a ytshort showcasing the insta360 prints separately might be a nice way to spread the word to cyclists and other users!

X3+Yoface in one video = awesome! Add two opposing 45-deg. bends to the Ferro rod at both ends then the ends can be totally captive within the housing while the "drop" in the middle sticks down below the board tail. Problem solved.

Use milk based plastic for the phoenix tail? Use a 3d printed mold sized to compensate for shrinkage. And cut up the ferrocerium rod like the original devil tail? Use metal teeth that dig into the rod parts in a direction that digs in harder the more force is applied to the board. Glue them in with that plant based uv printer resin?
@yeetmcmeat
@yeetmcmeat Жыл бұрын
If you have metal cutting drill bits and taps you could use some more bolts to strongly attach the ferrocerium to your board without adhesive. it will make the rods weaker of course though so there might be a risk of them snapping but if you get some thinner machine screws or something similar I don't see why that couldn't work.
@Rouverius

Maybe try changing the orientation of the ferro rod (with the length of the board, not perpendicular). Bonus is that you could then add more rods, and potentially get more sparks.

Is it possible to trim both ends of the spark devil bar in an angle or steps like this 凸, using glue (which still soft after dry) to stick the long side, and fastening the rod in both ends (by using caps like things / metal strap / wire / ring / hole maybe)? Or Trim the rod every 2cm by 5mm like 王 , strap the trimmed area.

A question about the 360 camera and video taken by it: do the fence you were riding by really has wavy top, and not straight top? Because if it was flat, then the spherical aberration removal and AI in-painting of cameras blind spot needs some work. About scanning the skateboard - wouldn't it be easier to use one of 3D scanning apps for smartphone: iOS or Android (for example the one Corridor Crew uses)?
@make.anything
