COOLANT Drain Plug BROKE OFF The John Deere BO TRACTOR

The coolant drain plug on the John Deere BO snapped in half when Jared tried to remove it. Now we're going to extract what's left of the old plug, replace it with a new steel plug, and determine what to do about the tractor's cooling system (we thought it had leaked all of it's anti-freeze out ). After the cooling system is flushed and back together it's time to change the differential gear oil. Quick update on the John Deere 60 as well!

If I'm not mistaken. I think those tractors dont have water pumps. in order for the anti freeze and water to mix you have to do it by hand in 5 gal bucket. (Just my 2 cents) might be wrong

Where did you get the steel plug?
@brianrvd
@brianrvd 5 жыл бұрын
Maybe you just didn't show it in the video, but both of these tractors have two drain plugs for the transmission / rear axle. The transmission and rear axle is one compartment but there is a high spot in the middle so there is a drain plug near the front of the transmission and one in the bottom of the axle housing. Both need to be removed to completely drain everything. The 60 will also have a small drain plug on the bottom of the first reduction gear housing which is below the belt pulley.
@WatchJRGo
@WatchJRGo 5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, they were both pulled, the front one was nearly dry. Probably didn’t have enough gear oil in it 🍻
@watchjaredwork1487
@watchjaredwork1487 5 жыл бұрын
Yea we pulled them both out of the BO. Didn’t on the 60 because it’s going to end up getting the same treatment the BO is getting with a good cleaning. I just wanted to get the majority of the water out of the 60 before I pulled it back outside.

Quite a bit of water but the engine looks solid so far. Should start soon and we'll find out for sure! 🍻
@watchjaredwork1487
@watchjaredwork1487 5 жыл бұрын
Nah. It takes a heck of a lot of water to break those rearend castings. The engine is way more vulnerable than the case. Plus we still haven’t gotten a real hard stuck freeze yet. Lowest we’ve gotten is low 20’s so far and then warms back up during the day. If I had left it in there all winter I might be worried.

How could of that much water seeped into the rear end housing? Surely wasn't that much condensation over the years do you believe? Keep the JD videos coming, I have more interest in the 60 than the BO. What is the mechanical condition of the picker?
@watchjaredwork1487
@watchjaredwork1487 5 жыл бұрын
Probably a mix of condensation and some rain finding its way in. It’s sat outside for the past I don’t know how many years. Didn’t mess with the picker too much when we took it off because I’m more interested in getting the tractor running and driving so we can hook it back up, but we tried to turn one of the gearboxes with a crescent wrench and it didn’t want to move. Didn’t try very hard because I didn’t want to break it, but I’m expecting the picker to be a project in itself.
