Thank you man! 12 years later! Couldn’t find the location of this thing! Lol

This helped me verify the location of the ECT on my 2003 Cavalier since it has 260,000 miles and very dirty. Thanks a lot! Replacing in a few hours. It's almost the same exact Ecotec engine.

Thank you very much this is an older one but still a good one 2006 Saturn Vue 2.2 liter. I believe it was a 21 mm and the size versus stock versus new was the same swapped it out and no more issues replaced alternator serpentine belt battery PCV hose should be running really good for a long time now.

thanks for the video, it's just what I needed as my coolant light stays on. The temps and gauges are normal just the light. I also found out today that the backup PRNDL fuse (#15 in the manual) will not allow a connection for the emissions test.

Great video Andrea. I wish I would have seen this video before I went and cleaned the coolant reservoir tank. Anyways, I just ordered the part on rockauto for $9.55 total and I can't wait to put it on the car. Thanks again.

I replaced mine today. The socket size is 3/4in deep socket at least on the 04 ion 3 sedan. I didn't have one but used an open end 3/4 wrench. It worked just takes a few minutes extra to loosen and tighten the sensor.

Just replaced mine, deep socket 19mm be careful not to snap the plastic that holds the sensor, loosen like your unscrewing and egg- 3/4 socket works too but Deep socket is needed - Any advice how long it takes for the light to come off? May have more then one issue- checking codes in the AM

Thanks for the heads up on where the Temp Sensor is... I'm going to be replacing my ION's surge tank in the coming days (Getting a Coolant Message) as the Tank's Sensor is likely bad and cleaning it I've been told is usually 50/50. I assume the area near the sensor is also the area where the Tank's hose connects to the Engine... Been told that is a better place to disconnect the Tank (with Hose attached) vs trying to disconnect at the tank (Real PITA I'm told).

will a wrench work to take it out and in? just curious and thanks man :)

Hmm...this must be something that carried over from the earlier S series Saturns even though those were 1.9 liter engines and these Ions are 2.2 liter ones, they go bad on those and the Ion's too apparently . I bought a cheap temp sensor for my 99' Saturn and it ran fine then 2 years later I had to replace it again because it was just a cheap part so maybe go with a higher quality sensor if you plan on keeping the car awhile.

I'm no mechanic just a guy attempting to save a buck, but you can take it down to the local midas and get a diagnostic for pretty much free, and that should help you narrow it down. I hope this helps
@RememberTruth239 жыл бұрын
Great quick video! Thank you for sharing this. How did you know that it needed to be replaced? Did the odometer display just say "COOLANT"? My display has been showing that but the coolant level is not low so I do not know what's wrong. Any thoughts?
@dark3nough9 жыл бұрын
Yes process of elimination, I changed water level, radiator is new. Had another mechanic double check as well.

thats the thermostat, it controls the input of coolant to ur engine. if its stuck closed, this will happen. if its stuck open, your car will run cold.

@joshuaparez69339 жыл бұрын
What symptoms did you get to indicate it needed to be replaced? As in, did you get a code? overheating? etc.
@jmueller872 жыл бұрын
I got a check engine light a p0128 code. High fan kicked on early not even at 1/4 way mark and gas mileage greatly diminished.
@dark3nough10 жыл бұрын
not sure which that would be.. i'm not a mechanic. my profession is in computers.. so I always let midas or someone do the the diagnostic, then I double check what they're saying for me that's a win win. " no one has ever been able to do anything that I couldn't learn how to do if taught properly "
@dark3nough11 жыл бұрын
the socket size was different from my original, but the screw teeth were the same. So it fits just the part that you socket in is slightly dfferent . I don't remember the sizes. Sorry
@lgoamity11 жыл бұрын
Coolant Level Message or Temp "light"? Assuming you checked Boiling/Freezing Temp to confirm the coolant itself is OK... You might be in the same boat as me and need to replace or clean your Surge Tank. Maybe.
@Alexscott1004 жыл бұрын
Why did you replace it? Any codes?
@dark3nough4 жыл бұрын
The car was overheating. No codes. Saturn is a pretty basic car. I put a new radiator, water coolant housing and the sensor. A shop would've cost me a lot more than the few bucks I spent.

Hey Man my 04 ION Sedan's temp gauge stays in the middle while driving..but then starts to rise to hot sitting still or driving at less than 15 mph. is it the thermostat or the sensor..hit me back please

Did you find out what it was? Mine is doing that rn

Hey Man I drive a 2004 Saturn Ion and when I'm driving the temperature gauge goes down. But If I idle or coast slowly with little speed it heats up. Do you think its the sensor or the thermostat. Any ideas..

i am currently having that issue right now, would like to know how you fixed it.

@@dark3nough I don’t need to Jack it up from drivers side like some forums have suggested? Or do I Just open overflow cap to relieve pressure and keep car at ground level ? expect a few tablespoons of fluid to leak out?First time changing one out. Diy’r of course.
@dark3nough2 жыл бұрын
@@jmueller87 if you let the car cool off you should not need to do anything except pop the hood and remove the sensor. If you remove the coolant tank that's a different thing. It's gonna leak by design but still , probably should let the car go cold .
