Coolster 125cc quad/atv Amazon quad performance upgrades carburetor & ignition system upgrades

Simple upgrades & changes has made this quad run allot better then when it was new out of the crate the 70 main jet is way too lean! And the stock cdi & ignition coil just didn’t deliver enough spark so I swapped them out made a few other little changes and it’s faster more responsive & definitely had more torque…jetting used and parts links are below!

Needle jet 1 moth up from stock or 2nd clip from the top
90 main jet
34 pilot jet
Air/fuel mixture screw set at 1.75 turns from lightly seated seems to have eliminated any and all hesitation everywhere from idle to wot “wide open throttle”

I fucking love coolster man. I had an 80cc pit bike that would run on hopes and dreams. I rode it for two years and never changed the oil, let it sit for a year and used the same old gas. When I did change the oil it had chips in it. STILL RUNS TODAY THAT WAS A YEAR AGO

Hey thanks!! I have a video based on single cylinder carburetor tuning on my channel just to break down & simplify things best I can of something isn’t explained/missed something definitely let me know I’ll be here!! I basically just took everything I needed from one carb to the other but Nibbi now makes a nice bolt on pe24fl version that I swapped out to now so it has some more power now

When you put the k&n filter on, where do I put the hose the is connected to the back of the original filter? In your video I see it’s turned to the back but where do you have it going then

I’ve got a problem: I got this exact quad and it doesn’t really stay on unless you hold the throttle, and dies of when you come to a stop. Love your videos, they’re very helpful!

Thank you! I would honestly start by checking the intake manifold where the carb bolt on and where it bolts to the top of the head…my daughters quad did the same exact thing the intake had a crack in it so essentially it had a huge vacuum leak

I know this video is extremely old but do you know what engine this is similar to? (for example a honda, yamahaha kawasaki engine etc) im trying to get a FMF exhaust for this but im not sure what to order.

We are fixing the carb up in our coolster the same way you did. However, our air filter comes with a nipple and runs into the motor. Did yours have that and you just removed it? Thank you for making this video! I hope this fixes our atv!

Yeah the original filter did you can add a vacuum tip to the new filter if you want to connect it but that’s just a crank vent so I run mine up higher zip tied it to something it’s been that way for a year now…hope you get the carb sorted out!!

I have a 125cc quad it's hardly climbs up any hills what so ever it has a pz19 carb atm can I put a pz22 carb on would this make a difference or pz20 carb .

Yeah absolutely look into running the 22-24mm carb since engine wise it’s the same engine you’ll find on the grom clones that most run a Nibbi pe24fl direct bolt on just jet & install then select sprocket sizes that fit your needs but the way this one sets up now it has no trouble at all climbing up hills well within reason of course it holds its own allot of what they can do will come down to the ignition system carburetor choice & gearing

Hey I was curious what light you have mounted on the front and how you wired it in? The stock head lights on my kids coolster 125 (3125 cx-2) they are so dim at idle.

Yea it’s very odd they chose to run them off the A/C side of the electrical system instead of the D/C I ran it off the battery and to a toggle switch because of that same issue the stock headlights are basically useless unless your wide open throttle the whole time the light 7.5” wide light bar I believe it was I ordered a set of 2 of them from Amazon I’ll add the link for you it’s they included a bracket for each one I drilled a hole on top of the front bumper for it to bolt into place

@@Jboost412 Thank you the fast response! I seen the light on yours and liked the mounting and size of it looks perfect! I will be ordering it and doing the same thing. Does it seem to effect how well the battery charges while running that light or does it seem to charge just fine?

Absolutely no problem at all! And no honestly I haven’t noticed any issues with it draining the battery I always shut it off say 30 seconds before the quad just to make sure it doesn’t drain it but it’s been 2 months or so now and hasn’t given me any issues

@@Jboost412 did you put a different carb on your coolster? This one just seems like there is something not rite in this PZ20 carb that came on my daughters quad. I slotted the screws and popped the plug and took it apart and it was clean but I cleaned it anyway and blew all passages out. I am waiting for an O2 sensor bung to get here so I can weld it in the exhaust pipe and use my dad's LM2 inovate wideband to see exactly what's up with the air fuel ratio. I mite end up just getting a better carb for this thing.

I had this stuff laying around new never used only thing I had to buy was a aftermarket cdi which is on Amazon as a 4-pin “racing” cdi in blue the carbs a pz22 and the genuine k&n I can try to find a part number for

Well it adds 2 degrees of timing advance & removed the rev limit so as it’s own modification it’s not that noticeable but once you have the cdi with this that this & that it all comes together making allot of difference

Absolutely anytime! Between the cdi a carb rejet k&n filter installing a good ngk plug and changing the coil made it run a whole lot better

Yeah there are dealers who sell them in person at Brick & mortar places but I order them online they’re cheaper that way..:the quads require very little assembly the wheels need put on & the handlebars have to be installed beyond that change the oil check the carburetor jetting and enjoy..:.if you wanna get into the China bikes & quads I run a big group on Facebook called the chonda riders stop by you’ll find all the information you’ll ever need to get it running correctly and keep it running for years to come

I just wired it independently straight to the battery with a switch if not it’s gonna dim like the headlights at idle/low speeds

Absolutely…originally I disconnected the high beam side of the headlights wired it to the light bar but found it was running on ac electrical instead of dc so it wasn’t a continuous amount of light

You can always check the bulb socket with a multi meter to see but if your headlights are dimmer at idle then get brighter as you go it’s the same setup..::im curious if it is so do let me know what you find

So your ignition itself should just be a 4 wire setup

You’ll have green for ground black with a white stripe solid black then solid red…you could just bypass the ignition to unplugging it and jumping the pins for now to start it up

They asked how many wires go to the ignition switches connector…I’m not really sure off hand but you can bypass the ignition all together some just get unplugged and with 1 jumper wire the start button works like normal while some require a wire to be removed from the cdi box connector to allow spark while it’s cranking if anyone runs into a similar issue figured it’s worth mentioning

Truthfully not sure it definitely exceeded they’re estimated 20mph even stock but a guess would be somewhere in the mid 30s even with me on it

@@Jboost412 Suffice to say I could likely assume with my GFs 8r old daughter riding with these mods, 40+ mph can be easily achieved. I'm gonna just give the CDI a try first and see how she handles the diff. Maybe do the carb/filter a year or 2 down the road.

Absolutely it does…I have used them here on auto & manual versions without any issues it seems most of the problems people have are with defective units that simply had issues from the time they plugged them in but so far I haven’t had any trouble with the blue cdi’s

Absolutely anytime I’m always happy to help whenever I can! Let me know how everything works out….have you pulled the stock carb apart or replaced it with a slightly larger one yet? Wondering because they typically come to us lean from the manufacturer….I believe this one had a 70 main jet in a 20mm carb I replaced that one with a 22mm and bumped the M/jet up to a 90 that made it run so much better since the A/F ratio was correct I see allot of these type of machines get ran super lean & end up with scorched jugs so I always like to mention they usually need a rejet unless your in the small margin of people who live up around 6,000ft elevation or higher where they do run fine with the what would be lean jetting after that a quality oil & they’re pretty much ready to go

If you wanted to sure honestly when your learning how to do stuff like that it’s best to start on something small & easy to manipulate so it would be good for that we picked up a pit bike that’s fun as well to ride wheelies on

Well they do because they add 2 degrees of timing advance to the motor thru the timing curve 2 degrees is not allot but compounded with a 4 degree key for example 6 degrees total makes a definite difference in power it’s the same thing if you would pop the hood in a 78 firebird and advance the distributor a few degrees it’s not a life changing difference but a difference never the less

It's a Chinese ATV if your gonna put high end parts buy a Japanese ATV I run my stock Chinese ATV into the ground and it's still going I refuse to put high end parts on a $900 ATV
