Hi Desiree! For us, sand has worked very well. We used construction grade sand - there are a few types that are OK to use but do not use play sand as it has other additives that may be unsafe for chickens. 🩷🌿 Rochelle

Awesome, I have been wanting to get sand. I live in the deep south an wonder if it would get to hot for their feet.
