So you like these better than the Senville? It seems like the Senville were easier to install, no? (especially the pipe bending). The Senville seem to get better ratings (and more history in business). I was going to go with Senville.. however you have me second guessing!!

Midea air conditioning manufacturer a lot of mini split air conditioners and other companies rebadge them. Senville, cooper and hunter, pioneer, mr cool, carrier, Toshiba (only time one toshiba model the rest are made by Toshiba themselves), kelvinator and midea themselves are only a few, there made in China and use Toshiba compressors there actually decent quality

Thanks for the long format. I watched the whole thing. Very good job. When I installed my single head unit I did use a micron gauge. It gave me an extra level of confidence that I did not have leaks.

Yes, my channel is a wide range of improvements and repairs. Lately, I have been updating to more efficient or smart products such as my pool pumps, radon fan, and now the mini split system to try to conserve energy/save money. It all started from changing out some old light bulbs.

I just had a Senville 24k Aura installed professionally in my home and most DIY’ers do a much better job than my HVAC people did. As far as the unit goes and for the last couple of weeks it has met all my expectations. Just checked the temp with the unit set on 80, it is pumping out 109.5 at the head and it’s 28 degrees outside. The unit is doing pretty well keeping the living space in my drafty ole house with vaulted ceilings and two bedrooms up stair. The unit wasn’t purchased to heat my entire house, just the living space. It’s doing great so far. I’ve since ordered a multi zone from Senville to put in some other rooms to completely replace my warn out central ducted system. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the video. You answered the multizone vacuum question a lot of us had. Thank you.

Extremely helpful video. I am installing a 36kBTU multisplit system made by Senville. Looks almost identical to this unit. The manual mentions NOTHING about the critical evacuation and opening the charge release procedure. It is a bit tricky compared to a single zone system.

Just to clarify a shutoff valve on the vacuum hose is a good idea to isolate the pump from the system and leave the gauge connected. The pump will end up leaking down. Some of the units are setup different and only have the lower valves which in that case releases the R410a not nitrogen. I believe the adapters are 3/4 to 5/8" The original nuts are engraved with 5/8" Hvac is sized by the outside diameter of line. Not inside like plumbing

I used plastic downspouts to hide the tubing, condescent drain , and signal wire. $15 for 10 feet I cut to length then split the back with scissors

I've installed 2 C&H mini splits (actually the same model in the same location, as a power surge fried the first one). I watched all of the YT videos, and it's all very easy, except for one thing... When I remove the blue vacuum line from the service port, I get quite a spray of freon (or whatever it actually is), and I have not figured out how to prevent that. In this video, the gauge remains connected after releasing the freon, which is nice in that you can check the pressure when it's running. But that big spurt of freon when disconnecting the line probably means that the reality is somewhat different than what I observed on the gauge. In any case, I have a short line of copper tubing (only about 8') so losing a little freon is probably no big deal. But, it is something to be aware of when doing the install...

Also... Don't fully pressurize system before removing guage. Just a little above zero... That way when gauges are removed, there is minimal burst VS full Burst

Thank you, I will look into a future video for sure. I am noticing that compared to my central air and heat pump system, I only need to set the thermostat at 74* on this C&H unit. My central air thermostat is set at 71* which is telling me I am loosing efficiency through the duct work of my central ac unit.

Excellent, thank you so much. This video is exactly what I need to install my 2 zone mini split. Thank you also for the tool list. I will be attempting to do all of this myself. If I mess up then I will get a professional in to do the charging. I will skip the nitrogen step as well as I can't seem to find a nitrogen tank anywhere. There is just one question I have. When you unscrew the valves with the Allen key do you leave them unscrewed in operation? I wasn't too clear on that step. I suspect they are left open. Thanks again for a great video!!!😃

I'm confused. At the 36min 30 second mark, you opened the high pressure valve and said it was Nitrogen but had text pop up stating that it wasn't Nitrogen and that it was 410a. If it was in fact 410a, didn't you just suck the precharge out of your system when you vacuumed it down? Did you have to go back and add more?

Good question. An HVAC engineer informed me that the gas was R410A (I thought is was nitrogen). Between the top service valves and the lower line valves all copper is pressurized with R410A, so the installer can tell if there are any leaks or damage from shipping. Once the main service valves (up top) are opened the full charge of 410A pressurizes and fills the line sets with refrigerant. This is my best understanding of how it works, but I am not a HVAC Tech.

That would make sense that its pressurized to make sure that the lines didn't get damaged for shipping but I believe that this 410a is part of the precharge. I really do appreciate your video because the installation manual only detailed a single unit system on the topic of evacuation but I believe the steps of opening the high stage valves prior to evacuation is incorrect. You only used two lines of the four available so I'm assuming that you had much less than the 100' of lineset. The unit is precharged for 100', so I'm guessing that's why your particular installation worked properly. If somebody was to use the full 100 feet, this video could cause them to lose some of their precharge and cost them a lot of money. On page 20 of the installation manual, in the CAUTION box, it specifically states not to open the outdoor unit's gas and liquid valves to vacuum. Once again I appreciate your videos and I'm not trying to armchair quarterback. I was just hoping that you could edit that portion of the video if you find my statement to be correct. After speaking with the technical support people at C&H, I still don't know if it was part of the precharge. They also didn't know what brazing was so that's a little scary.. @@doublewide6

Tavis Sweeney what you heard was 410a being released . The system should have been pressurized with nitrogen to verify for any leaks . Trying to pull a Vacuum to find leaks will actually pull Contaminants into the system . Also you should use valve core removal tool on both high and low side , this will reduce Restrictions when pulling a vacuum , a Micron gauge is required . Systems should hold at least 500 microns before Refrigerant is Introduced to the system .

Im a HVAC company owner and we mainly sell Cooper & Hunter. Some thoughts I'd like to share with others reading this is when doing the flare connections to the outdoor and indoor units, you MUST use Nylog gasket sealant and a torque wrench. Installing the unit yourself is great, you save thousands. Although down the road when it starts leaking, which it 100% will leak if you don't use gasket sealant & a torque wrench, you will pay thousands to charge it up every year to HVAC companies. Also, by not using a "Micron Gauge", you MUST vacuum down to 500 microns or else you WILL have a leak. It's great to save thousands of dollars by installing your own system but when it has issues the thousands you thought you saved by doing the install yourself, you will be paying to recharge it often with great disappointment. This is why companies walk away from customer installs because: 1) We don't know where the connections are in the wall if there are any 2) We don't know the quality of the installation and cannot guarantee any leak repairs due to us not knowing if the flares were flared properly 3) If gasket sealant was used 4) If a torque wrench was used 5) If it was pressure tested with nitrogen 5) If a proper vacuum was pulled down to a minimum of 500 microns Advice: bite the bullet and have it professionally done, spend now or later. Not to mention that any system, "specifically Cooper & Hunter, voids all warranties if not installed by a licensed HVAC company.

Yes, I spent some time doing research and I wanted a company that made commercial products as well as residential. These units are well made, I believe meant to hold up over time. It is good to hear yours is working well for you.

I have a pre-charged line set that has been vacuumed and filled with R-410a refrigerant from the factory, but I need to shorten its length. Once I'm done shortening the line set, and since the lines are factory pre-charged, is there anything special I need to do aside from vacuuming the lines and checking the microns before releasing the R-410a refrigerant from the condenser?

Love your use of drown spout(s) to hide the line set. Were you able to run both line sets through the one downspout? Why did you buy a condenser with four outlets If you are only cooling two rooms? Were you required to get some sort of fed or state certification before you could install the system? And did you put anything on the copper pipe ends before connecting them to the AC system (Teflon tape, locktight, etc.)?

THANK YOU THANK YOU and THANK YOU!!! you are on of the first ones to show a MULTI-ZONE VACUUMING process. All the others have just shown vacuuming process for a single zone mini split system... and you nocked it out! I'd been looking for these type of scenarios.... and by the way.... I have the exact same C&H 36 BTU system; but instead, I have purchase it with 2 9000 BTU heads and one 24000 BTU head. Just one question.... are you sure I can just open up the connections down below (not the service connectors) so I may vacuum the line sets? Again, thank you so much!

I wish I could be comfortable at the temperature you said you like in your bedroom. I can't sleep very good unless my room is 62⁰. Thanks for the video! I've watched a few installation videos and they stopped before showing how to vacuum and charge the system. Some of the people did like a three or four part video series but never did the final part. Is that vacuum/pressure gauge set for automotive? I have an automotive one but not sure if it will connect with the unit without buying extra fittings

Hi Doublewide, I was installing a Fujitsu 24,000 BTU Multi-Zone (3 rooms) last 4 months ago and running it without vaccum. Now, some people tell me to release out all of gas from the system, recharge full amount gas following the instruction label that is pasted outside of condenser. So can you show me what service port I have to use to release out the gas, because my fujitsu looks different from your CH Mini-Split. Thank you.

Again, thank you for your great video(s) so instructive. Quick Qn. Let's say I installed the same unit 36KBTUs and installed only 2 head units and working... but 2 or 3 moths later I want to add another head to have a total of 3 head units. How do I vacuum the 3rd one without risking/compromising the gas is already in the initial 2 line-sets?(head-units) ? Thanks in advance.

You will have to add enough gas for the additional units and line sets. A calculation must be done. These units come with enough refrigerant for 75ft of lineset

Just a heads up you can take the cover off the indoor unit to run the copper tubing and communication wire without having to fight the unit and the wall.

I'm really confused as to how the king valves on the individual zones audibly released refrigerant, yet there was no pressure when you went to vacuum these lines. Where did that refrigerant go? Were those lines actually vacuumed? I would expect NO refrigerant to be in those lines prior to opening the main king valves on the top. Right?

I installed the same system but the bigger module cools great but the smaller one blows but does not cool at all. (There is no error code when they are both set to “cool” but it displays 2 dashes if they are both set to “auto” so I keep it at cool.)

Great suggestion! I should save close to 40* over traditional heat pump HVAC. No ducts no leaks, only cooling or heating the zone you want to, and inverter technology is where the savings comes from.

Awesome Video, I have the same exact config but with Pioneer. I am gearing up to install but wondering if the vacuum and refrigerant release procedure is the same for Pioneer Multizone; the Pioneer manual is a bit cryptic and says the common valve must be opened before the circuit valves which is opposite of your procedure. The two brands look identical in every way. Both are pre-charged and have the same manifold, dimensions and almost identical manual. Any insight?

I have a question : How do lawn mowers charge the battery? My tractor only has a starter and magneto (ignition coil). Do they even charge the battery? I have an old Rally 10 hp , Briggs&Stratton engine.

There is a stator under the flywheel that picks up a magnetic pulse from the spinning flywheel and it converts the electrical mechanical power to charging power.

I could use a little help. The C&H installation manual is pretty vague. I'm trying to sort out the power lines for this thing. I have two of the Sophias in two different sizes,--both are 240V. I see that you have three lines feeding the power--one ground, a black, and a red. I assume that the black is your 'neutral' line and the red is a straight 240V line--not two out of phase 120V lines. I'm assuming that you are grabbing the 240V off your master CB box by taking a single line off a dual pole CB? Many thanks. You have one of the better videos on these puppies. Mine are more complex as they are ceiling mounts, so I have greater wire and line runs, plus I need to have a drain for them for the evaporative moisture. I really like your idea of the pseudo "downspout!"

Double pole breaker with black and red hot, white neutral and ground. Drain the ceiling unit in the soffit where the venting is behind the gutter, or tie it into a drain vent line going through the roof.

Each line set has its own service port. I would connect to each and vacuum to test for leak on individual line.

Would you pull the vacuum individually with the valves open high and low? Then just put shrader back after pulling vacuum 300 micron? Individually. Do you pull a vacuum on the main king valve post at the top or no?

Really should have used a torque wrench they have pacific settings so you get it exact and don’t over tighten or under tighten

By closing your blue valve all you did is check you blue gage is not leaking

I think those warranty requirements would be illegal based on Federal warranty regulations. They can't require you to register the product for 1 thing I know.

I'm pretty sure you are right, if you install without a license hvac you lose your warranty all together

I couldn't rent it from any rental store. So I figured I will do it myself and it it does not work then pay someone to come in. I did gamble on it, but it has been 6 months and it appears I won.
