The prime minister has defended his decision to miss the climate summit COP27, saying he needs to focus on "fixing" the economy.
Rishi Sunak has insisted he is "committed" to the climate but he has to concentrate on the "depressing domestic challenges" of the UK economy.
He also said he has no regrets over reappointing Suella Braverman as home secretary and was "confident" she had "learnt from her mistake".

It's not like they couldn't have sent a proxy in his place, not sending anyone to attend at all who represents us is terrible. Especially when the actual reason is because despite promises to cut emissions, we have not only failed but failed worse than almost any other country. Indeed only 20 countries of over one hundred have actually met their agreed emission reduction targets. Cost of living as important as it is is not as important as climate change which can and will if left unchecked be an armageddon.

When it comes to 'rewarding hard work', the wealthy operate what is in practice, a 'scorched earth' policy. Meaning, that by the time most other workers get a 'look in' there's not much left. Therefore production workers, in order to make more money, work slower to gain 'overtime'. If they work 'efficiently' there is rarely a reward for this, it is more likely that instead, their hours will be cut. Though the importance of productivity is very readily identified by Government, employers and managers, it is the production worker who is amongst the very least paid. Outside of the usual disheartening trickle down of 'warm words,' there's rarely a glimmer of genuine 'positive feedback.' Employees defensive behaviour should, therefore, be easy to understand, it is a rational defence from a people who feel both used and exploited by those exercising power over them.

Rishi and Hunt have to present that statement on the 17 NOV - the COP conference runs from the 6 - 18 Nov - 12 DAYS. Rishi needs every available day to get that statement sorted. I think that if it had to be delayed again because Rishi wasn't available to get it ready in time - he would get roasted by Starmer for not being here to get it done and accused of using the COP as an excuse. So I think Rishi made the right call on this one. I do feel that King Charles should be allowed to go, Truss told him not to, but I don't see why he should have to miss it.

@Alexei Smirnoff Agreed, but the economic/cost of living crisis in this country is now arguably more urgent after it's been exacerbated by Liz Truss' kamikaze budget. Many people could be in serious trouble this winter if nothing is done. While climate change is also very pressing, and many of the long term solutions to cost of living/climate issues are interconnected, this ain't gonna be the last COP or UN meeting. He needs all the time he's got to formulate a plan before he presents it

This is so wrong, we have a crisis financially, his wife is a heiress who avoided paying taxes, hence why we will never fix the economy because he’s not going into his pockets to make sure the country is better is he? We need someone in power who won’t hesitate to tax the RICH. They can leave the money will always be where it is and we can tax it and assets to better the country. Rishi wants to keep all he has for his daughters.
