A rarity. A more thoughtful, reflective MARM this week looks back at when the addiction first took hold and details coping mechanisms that only the truly addicted will be able to recognise.
A truly melancholic MARM. The calm before the storm of the 40 mile Ultra.

Iv been running on and off for 10yrs never took it seriously till i turned 40 and i felt stressed with life. So i took up running again but this time iv kept at it. Been running for 2yrs non stop i managed to pluck up the courage to do heaton park 5k run...after that i got hooked and iv ran tons of 5ks and 10ks and i cant stop! When im at work i think about routes to run and scouring places for competitions. I love it i totally embrace it whole heartidly. 😅

At 49 I'm definitely addicted to racing.. gradually watching my times get slower but it's not a deterrent and i have the same buzz now as i had when I started running competitively at 24, in fact I didn't really peak until i was in my late 30's early 40's... I absolutely agree on the subject of looking after our own mental wellbeing and using running and exercise to calm, improve or just escape the difficult thoughts we all have... 👌 I can't help but love your video content and I am really glad i found your channel... For me running is personal therapy & each run an act of self-affirmation of authenticity & perseverance. In a nutshell running is ritual. You can fake a lot of things in life, but not running (or racing). The running gods know - and reward accordingly. Been doing this since the '70's, hundreds of races & now 60. Running is not fair and you have to be genetically blessed to stay in the game. With each passing decade you see runners who unfortunately are predisposed to osteoarthritis & no longer able to continue the journey - appreciate it while you can.

In my 40s, been doing Parkrun's on and off for a few years but only really got the bug when I signed up for the London Marathon coming up in April. Now watch a ton of videos of people running anything from Parkruns to Ultras. I'm totally addicted too.. umm.. borderline obsessed. 😄

Hey, great video, cheers fella! Davey a running addict here. I started 3 years ago and am now 64. When I'm not dodging mountain goats ( I live in Austria) and plotting my next route, you'll catch me glued to running videos, pretending to read running books (mostly just staring at the pictures) and studying my Strava run info. Last year, I decided to enter my first ever event and finished a trail marathon - 1,900 meters of elevation and 5 hours and 20 minutes of questioning my life choices. Loved every minute (that’s a lie by the way but felt like it’s what I should say). This year's agenda? More trail events and a 'Backyard Ultra,' where the only thing ultra is my questionable decision-making skills. Then, I'm eyeing an 80km race next year because I am a bit slow up top and didn't learn my lesson the first time. My friends, who shall we just say are generously endowed in the love-handle department and who have nearly all had knee replacements, keep insisting I take it easy. I just look at them blankly (I’m a master at that by the way) and nod, secretly plotting my next trail conquest whilst they chat to each other about the latest pills the doctor has given them. Who cares about the years I've missed? I'm too busy picturing myself in my 80s, leaving walkers in the dust and outrunning woodland hedgehogs. Cheers to your videos, and keep the laughs and entertainment coming! Cheers Chairman MARM Separatist Group Austria
