The FTC and COPPA are threatening the future of family friendly content on KZfaq. Oh, and uh, a Channel Update.
A much better breakdown of the situation: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtuDlqx_mcvRqaM.html
Send the FTC a message: www.regulations.gov/comment?D=FTC-2019-0054-0001

A lot of people have asked for my thoughts on this situation, but here's a much better breakdown: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtuDlqx_mcvRqaM.html

Jim Sterling (who has several videos covering KZfaq's ineptitude ) also has a good video related to COPPA. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7VyesmTuNHDeHk.html

What gets me is this...they could just use KZfaq Kids, which is specifically for Kids...why attack KZfaq for something they can't control?

I love your content and I hope that KZfaq can figure something out and take the blame rather than passing it off. I also hope you will be doing Transformers Prime soon! Loved the Beast Wars and Beast Machines videos

@CW Excuse me? Are you blaming me for expecting the worst? You must have seen how KZfaq's bots mislabel and mishandle copyright; what makes you think it can handle something as nuanced as adult commentary on "children's" media?
@NoirRaven

@CW You're an extremely rude, assuming and condescending individual. 1. This isn't like the copyright strike system (which is thoroughly broken) where there's a _chance_ at fighting back. If youtube's bots decide that your content is aimed at kids--and it will--you will be effectively silenced on the platform. Remember, not even subscribers will be notified of when the accused upload. And before you say "well sue," let me put this into perspective. A few years ago, Jim Sterling was sued for 15 million dollars by a shady (and now defunct) game studio called Digital Homicide. At the time, Jim was around 700k subs and making 11k a month via patreon and he *struggled* to afford a lawyer and most likely couldn't proceed all the way to trial had the Romaine brothers not completely botched their own case by representing themselves and screwing up every bit of the process. (You can learn more about that, here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p7ldf7unzd-VdKM.html ) Why did they do this? Because they couldn't afford a lawyer, unlike Jim. This is the case for anyone/everyone who's not making 10k a month via patreon and hell, some have to acquit or settle due to that not even being enough. 2. According to some sources, the reason why KZfaq is willing to take this hit is because it's the less lethal option for their bank accounts. They'd rather all hobbyists leave than to put in a proper age gating system, because the later is going to greatly affect their bottom line. So no, it's not going to kill itself. The majority of youtube is aimed at drama channels, reality tv channels like the Paul brothers and others. Hell, kicking kids off this platform is just as financially suicidal because of people like Pewd's and aforementioned Paul brothers, directly aim their content at kids. It's gotten to the point where Pewd's now refers to his army as the "19 year old army" when it was previously the "9 year old army." 3. How in gods name are we supposed to fight back against this aside from a twitter campaign and angry letters that youtube will ignore because of their projectionists data saying this is the safer, more profitable option? 4. _Other platform???_ Dude, there have been dozens upon dozens who've tried doing what youtube has done and they're all extinct. I bet you can't even name one aside from vid.me. That's how much of a monopoly youtube has on the video sharing market.

@CW I didn't take offense so much as I called you out on your bullshit. There's a difference. Why don't you learn to take some criticism on your behavior instead of interpreting it as a personal attack? Way to ignore my facts, btw. _"Ah, you are a Steven Universe fan. That explains why you take offense at everything. Snowflake. Muted. :)"_ Stop projecting and learn to hit above the belt. I didn't attack anything you happened to like on your channel but you had nothing to insult so I guess you felt the need to go digging into mine; how sad.

I already blanked my channel to be safe. I can't afford the fines that could come my way if the FTC decides this is an ATM for them. That aside... War Planets joke at 1:20 made me smile.

There is indeed a middle ground rule for content a social media lawyer made a video on that yt decided not to elaborate on. So technically people who review kids shows are fine as long as they are not presenting themselves as directed towards children specifically like you said. However I do share the concern over the bots, like when I eventually complete my works for past shows like Gargoyles, or movies like Bird Boy and Sonic am I gonna get detected and have to yet deal with another review process. ugh.

There's a let's play channel I watch, where they did 2 videos on pokemon. They listed them as for adults, but youtube overrode it to say it's for kids. They literally named the pokemon they caught after STDs, in what world is that directed at children? The channel's called Rageselect, btw

Like you said, seems simple, stop collecting data if the user profile is of someone under 13. God forbid they do the easier option.

You aren't American? Where in Canada!? For Coppa, I think a major reason this is happening the way it is must be due to how ads are put on videos. The ad buyers don't want their car videos on kids content, so now you wont...

Toronto, Ontario. Yes one of the few silver linings with this development. Adult geared content may start to be more monetizable again.

This all feels like laws and rules being made by people who don't understand the internet, and KZfaq is definitely reacting to that in the worst way. Hope this works out but we will see... Wish it was simple enough to move to another platform but I know it's not that easy either.
