Copper laps are a mystery to many facteters, new and seasoned alike. 💫
Some turn their nose up at copper 😤 stating that they are a leftover relic from an era gone by, exiled to the dust bin of history, and replaced by newer, shiner, diamond 💎 bonded steel laps.
I believe that copper laps are some of the most versatile and cost effective laps to add to your arsenal. In fact, I’m working on moving exclusively to copper laps after discovering how well they work. Faceting is all about color 🌈 anyway, so why use boring silver colored laps when you can add a plash of color to your splash pan by using a copper lap! ✨

with copper I always get 90% through polish and they it scratches. I don't have this issue with wood laps, & I they don't take 8 business days to prep and maintain.

Over time I came to the conclusion that copper is a good medium for a cutting lap, for sure. As a polishing lap it shines at first but over time it picks up bits of material and causes scratching, much like you've experienced.

I've got a couple of copper laps that I need to charge. But every time I try I get this horrendous screeching harmonic. Any recommendations for dealing with that? or should I just scrap these ones and get replacements?

@@gemsbyjohnnyI see the lap is about $43. I don't have any laps and I'm curious if the time, effort, and cost of this is better than buying a factory lap. Thank you.
