I have 5 electric jigsaws that runs with 110V. It is hard for me for working outside or far away from electric source. I decide to choose one of them and convert it into cordless power tool. "In condition I fail, I still have 4 tools left, but if I succeed I learn something new and have video for you" this is what think before I start the project.
DC motor
Price 4$
The new original 775 high-power DC motor, both front and rear are ball bearings, the rated voltage is DC18V, 17400 rpm (can also be used for 12V or 24V), high-speed and large torque, originally estimated to be used on power tools.
Motor diameter: 42mm
Motor height: 67mm
Shaft diameter: 5 mm (4mm in flat position)
Output shaft length: 14.5 mm
Weight: 350 grams
Rated voltage: DC18V
No-load current: 1.45 A
No-load speed: 17400 RPM
DC12V current: 1.3 A No-load speed: 11300 rpm
DC24V current: 1.68 A No-load speed: 23500 rpm
Battery adapter
I bought this adapter form China price 4$
The adapter is suitable for the Makita lithium battery
Battery Lithium battery & charger
I bought this battery and charger from China price 20$
The battery is similar to 18V Makita battery, but different quality.
I hope you find this video useful and enjoy!
I am happy to receive feedback, suggestions to improve myself.
!!! I'm sorry for the mistake if I did this video !!!
** I still keep some parts, I want to help the world environment **
Thank you very much for your likes, comments and subscribe!

Great conversion and great tip on finding center with the sand paper plus drilling center using a keyless chuck and staying vertical. One thing to correct though is your SPM (rpm) figure. The jigsaw is rated at 3200 SPM but you’re reading up and down resulting in a figure ~ double the actual rate. You need to record with the laser at either the top or the bottom of the stroke to get an accurate reading.

I did that a couple years ago. I found a 20V mains transformer and a simple bridge rectifier that fitted in my old and knackered NiCad "Ryobi One" battery pack shell. It worked really well as a handy way to keep working (When near a wall socket) if you'd ran all your packs flat, but the unit was way heavier that the 2.5Ah packs I'd got used to at that point, and it kind of felt wrong paying extra for cordless tools, only to shackle them to a wall socket. In the end I just bought a handful of aftermarket Li-Po packs so I wouldn't run out of charged ones. They're cheap as chips, and I've never noticed any difference between them and the OEM Ryobi Li-Po packs (That are 4x the price !!!).

@@philtowle4683 Could/should have, but at the time it was easier to fit it all in the space the dead Ni-Cad's had occupied and use an old computer PSU's "kettle lead" socket to get mains power directly into it. To put the transformer near the wall socket I'd have had to buy an enclosure for it.

The old 7.2 volt twin battery Black and Decker tools work great when corded for 12v using crocodile clips onto a car battery. Many of the Johnson motors used will accept a range of voltage and can easily cope with the current. Never had any problems and can pick up tools almost for pennies.

The problem with this is that you have no undervoltage protection for the battery - battery powered tools will switch off when the battery voltage drops too low, to protect the battery from overdischarge, which can cause permament damage.

That seems less practical on a saw like this than on other tools, generally you are above it and aligning based on the top, not watching exact position of the blade which would mean your head is off to the side and then far easier to start drifting back and forth making corrections instead of just keeping it straight in the first place.

While it's aways fun to tinker like that, cordless tools don't break the bank nowadays, especially not if you already own the batteries. Corded tools are almost never brushless, so you lose efficiency. Fun project, but hardly worth it. I'd rather build a huge power bank to power my corded tools. At least that's a flexible solution.

This is a great conversion...but does it stagnate when drilling ect..does the battery hold the charge and does the battery heat up from resistance put by the drill

I would have added a variable pot, way too fast for some uses. Great job though
@corisco8817
@corisco8817 3 жыл бұрын
A pot won't handle the high current draw. One viable solution for those not into electronics would be using an ESC (electronic speed control, brushed motor variety) driven by a servo tester. The servo tester's pot will signal the ESC to vary the power sent to the motor. Both ESC and servo tester can be found a most large radio control hobby stores. Total cost should be below $30.

I actually want to do the reverse of this with my Mower, batteries are expensive...
@FarmerFpv
@FarmerFpv 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, you can get refurbished Tesla 3 batteries for half the price of Samsung 30Q's or 40T's and build some low-cost powerful packs that would last at least 5 to 7 years. Lumber cost more than batteries these days thanks to the Biden administration.
@stinkycheese804
@stinkycheese804 2 жыл бұрын
@@FarmerFpv That makes no sense, the Tesla 3 battery is far more capacity than needed, then the bother of tearing it apart, rebuilding a pack when you had to destructively disassemble the original pack plastic spacer to reuse it otherwise, then you cannot asssume 5 to 7 years because they are used and even new may not last that long if used regularly, so it would cost more, be a massive amount of time spent, be reconstructed in a dodgy way then subject to mower vibration constantly, just NO!
@stinkycheese804
@stinkycheese804 2 жыл бұрын
Doing the reverse would be relatively simple if you can find a switchmode PSU capable of enough current, that will fit where the battery went, and is passively cooled without vents in its casing since a mower produces an incredible amount of flying debris and dust so the PSU must be sealed to last long, but be designed to be sealed not you seal it up later so that it stays within its thermal design. The trickier part will be if the mower itself has a built in protection circuit that relies on communication from the battery BMS to run, then you'd need to disable or emulate that. Then again, used ICE mowers are often inexpensive and if there is a market for your electric mower to resell, it could make sense to go that direction instead.
