I Built a Turbo Diesel Cordless Tesla with over 1000 miles of Range on a single charge, it runs on Electricity like a conventional EV but also runs on Diesel, it can run on Diesel alone or Electricity alone and gets more range than any other Tesla.
I go on a 2500 Mile Road trip to ride the Jet Powered Pontoon Boat then to New York City, then to build the Jet Powered Hovercraft and Finally to LiquidPiston to see their newest engine that may be the next Diesel engine I put in the Tesla to power it.

@@WarpedPerception hybrid reduces emissions more than ev, it uses the worlds limited batttery supply, to reduce emissions where they happen most across all cars throught the rest of human existence, which is in low speed high torque ( stop and go traffic) without being heavy (which is less crash safe espcially for others in crash, and weight also worsens normal wear damage to road which cost emissions etc to fix). a small but essential part of the battery cannot be recycled after short lifetime due to high energy flow into and out of battery causing normal dendrite forming battery wear damage, this is why aftermarket electric cars go down in value as much as they do. see volvo study on how it suppsoedly takes more emissiosn to make electric car. mahle says its working on recyclable electric motor. its best to have small combustion charge battery size somewhat closer to optimal size for longveity , because more battery is exponentially more energy wasted which worsens longveity, ebcause yoru nto using all thee energy all that long range ev big battery mass carries, and current ev tech is much heavier per amount fo energy vs combustion. sir joseph center enegry and others are working on converting linear combustion energy to elctric drive , and maybe assited by hydrallic drive. bio fuels, hydrogen , e fuels, propane etc are all more sustainable tech than relying more on electric battery car, so only use enough battery to reduce emisions to a resonable amount for the sake of human health etc. it will more much easier to own too, cheaper, lightweight driving fun more similar to lotus elise mid rear engine weigth distrubution(for saftey and being abel to preserve momentum around turns, which is more effceint than regenrative braking), manual steering, a car structure that can give you precise feel of how car is moving , rear wheel drive (less regenerative braking , so more longveity of battery) etc. the seats can move so that when getting out of car, person is sitting straight up with no leaning back at all, to allow more space for legs to come out , and to go back into car when needed, while allowing smaller car electric car batteries of today and the past have not and will probably not be recycled if they arnt freshly dead when 100 percent full mass recycling that is also not too chemically toxic, becomes a real thing.... the batteries end up rusting and short circuiting at landfills. less weight per structural strength and crash energy absorbing material, is more safe, including saftey to those outside the car, while also reducing normal wear damage done to roads, which requires resource use, money, emissions etc to fix.. compact 4 seater with the rear seast facing rear (i cant explain too much it wont let me, but think of sports cars, access to rear seats, less space to heat or cool, aptera motors, etc) . the seats can move so that when getting out of car, person is sitting straight up with no leaning back at all, to allow more space for legs to come out , and to go back into car when needed, while allowing smaller car . people can take multiple trips to doctor insetad of taking whole family at once (they probabyl would have to for doctor office schedualing reasons anyway), and family road trips can be had in rented vans for the few times itll ever happen . even gordon murray t27 or aptera or cree sam sort of cars, could be resonale for the increasingly mentally ill culture of decreasing long term collaborative relationships , so less need to carry much people in car. making the car move up to height of a car its about to crash into , to protect its weaker parts from the structurally stronger parts of the other car, is possible by a explosive device creating ablity to move quick enough, while having a locking device to hold it in place. even better, if it somehow is integrated with a system that can increase height to make it easier for disabled user to put stuff (including herself) into or out of car , by less user joint and muscle movement. system would also allow light offroading. toyota active sway bar sort of ting could allow less stiff bumpy ride in straight line , but allow it around turns to be able to preserve more momentum around turns, to whatever extent user wants. this can also allow car to move itself at angle that absorbs crash in safest way, as audi a8 already does. FRIC suspension, as in mclaren f1. this advanced suspension ideally should be a optional thing that can be fairly easily added at dealership if user sells car to someone else and the new owner is willing to pay for it, instead of selling new car. theoretically, to rent instead of sell the car with software to reduce monthly costs if driving in a low fuel, tire etc consumption way, can make it easier to maek high quality high budget build which makes car last as long as possible, but there would need to be legal protection against updated blagrock ESG score rules from making service provider say "were taking away the car , certain softwares in it, etc because spywaredetected you did something zatanworldorder doesnt like" .youtube channels: tony heller, suspicious observers, tom nelson, corbettreport at substack webzite , blackrogg clmate policy, dysgenic"affirmatiev action" poliyc, see ulez road use tax, etc. ntoice how they keep faiing to accuratly predict disasters with their understanding of climtc change, and cant agree on things like "are we warming or cooling more?"This is an 8 hour class split into 7 parts. I work as an automotive engineer and although I absolutely LOVE this project, 35 MPG is not good even cosidering 1000hp 4x4 car, because you were using nowhere near that power and car was effectively powered by small diesel engine. Similar combustion-only car equipped with this engine would be getting well over 50 MPG driving relatively slowly on the highway plus some mixed city driving. Proper way to do this would be to calculate power needed to keep the batteries charged and then find an engine that would give you required power in the RPM and load area with best BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption). In small turbocharged diesel engines this is around 2000 to 2500 RPM and 75% of rated nominal torque at that RPM. Engine you used seems to be too small for this task, you need work it too hard in too high RPMs and therfore running it well outside of its peak efficiency, which is also probably contributing to the overheating issue. Please don't take this the wrong way, again, I absolutely LOVE what you did with your Tesla and I'm just trying to explain what could possibly be done to make this even better :)

The 35mpg also doesn't account for the power used from the battery. Which returned from the trip at 11%. You'd be paying for both diesel and electricity. His numbers indicate you're stull paying 25% of the normal kwh for recharging the Tesla + 35mpg for the diesel engine. To put it another way, the diesel generator is replacing 75% of the power that would normally come from the battery.

35 MPG on highway is impressive considering the "inefficiency" of the current cooling system (the scoop must add a lot of drag right now) and the total mass of this car.
@cujet
@cujet 10 ай бұрын
It is worth considering that diesel engines have significant thermal efficiency advantages over gasoline engines. Additionally, diesel fuel contains about 15% more energy per gallon. So the MPG numbers would be about 30% less for gasoline, no matter what. Or about 25MPG. Which is almost exactly what Tesla cars get when charged by an efficient gasoline generator.

Rear mount the radiator at a 45 deg. angle and draw air from the underside of the car. Duct it to the rear above the bumper so the flow exits into the low pressure zone created behind the car. Drift cars use this setup all the time. Some cooling fans would help when parked. I almost suggested using the vehicles cooling system attached to the diesel system but that would destroy the batteries. I thought the Tesla uses air conditioning for the batteries and a separate system for the HVAC. Looks great. I now want a Tesla.

Absolutely 100% correct, that was my original idea, the issue is that my car right now pulls 725,000 Watts at Full throttle, I think that's completely feasible in the future where they have smaller batteries that can supply more peak amperage. For instance, if there were a way to get some large LiPO batteries like we use for the RC jets that would probably do the trick, the issue is they're very dangerous, lithium ion are much more stable than lipo.

Train engines have been doing this for decades nothing new. Put it in a car and your still sending carbons into atmosphere which is the main reason B for electric cars in first place. Now you just have a more complicated vehicle that requires more maintenance. Trains actually have a good reason for it but cars? No way. You want to save money? Buy a good regular gas powered car for much less with negligible economy loss. Want to feel good about yourself go electric and/ or hybrid. Want to save the environment? Ride a bike, walk, car pool, take public transportation, or heck just slow down. We should be investing in more efficient public transit instead of new tech that supports old transportation ideology.

The electric side has the torque for down low while the gas motor has the revs for high rpm. Fully electric vehicle just needs torque to drive a generator so diesel is perfect

It would make a lot of sense considering your past coverage of the brand, and that those engines are supposedly very well suited to exactly this use case. It would also be great for LiquidPiston to see their engine being used in a more practical, tangible application to the everyday user, which could help drum up a lot more support for the company. I’m not sure how feasible this actually would be considering the small number of engine models available from them, but I would love to see it done eventually.

I can see the pure electric fad dying out or at least not ever reaching the market share they’re aiming for. I think it’s currently being adopted quickly because it’s a new technology that people are excited about yet don’t know much about. But over time there will very likely be issues with mineral supply for batteries, lacking grid and charging infrastructure, and poor resale value. A highly efficient hybrid with a much smaller battery is a much smarter, more practical, more sustainable solution, and I’m hoping they end up becoming much more popular. I think there’s a good reason Toyota, the second largest car manufacturer on earth with decades of experience with hybrid and other green technology, isn’t really producing pure electric cars.

I know it sucks to chop up your car, but what if you moved the radiator to the front of the vehicle behind the bumper, I know that means long lines, but you should be able to run them under the car, even if they get hit by road debris, not a flamable situation. I think a hybrid electric car should definitely be LP’s next demonstration prototype. We’ve seen the x mini on a go cart and a scooter, we’ve seen the XTS-210 in the drone, but we need to see something more tangible for the everyday user. A partnership between Warped Perception and LiquidPiston to develop a hybrid range extender system for a Tesla would be a perfect demonstration of the tech, and would be awesome content for fans of this channel. I really hope we can see something like this. I wonder if the XTS-210 would be powerful enough to serve as a range extender at only 25HP. They could use one of the larger earlier models if not.

The super compact Liquid Piston engine should fit nicely in the frunk under the hood to return lost luggage space in the rear trunk. Too bad, as big a company as Tesla, yet they can't offer an option with a small battery pack and a gasoline range extender for customers who don't want to be stuck in Supercharger for an hour at a time. BYD, Toyota, GM, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, and soon Mazda are able to offer Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) versions. Mazda is using a compact rotary engine similar to the LP engine in their PHEV. Warped Perception can collaborate with LP on perfecting the frunk-mounted range extender LP engine and sell the design to Tesla.

Multiple things I could help to improve. First I would move the radiator to the front ( yes it will be a lot of work and would require metal tubing to be secured for coolant to pass though rubber increases the chance of bursting) second, I’m not sure what type of alternator/generator you are using but I would buy a Toyota Camry hybrid transaxle, remove the generator side and machine a housing for the generator (toyota has a 1-2 ratio on the generator) third, I would use openinverter software for a Prius inverter so that the charging is done in such a way you can directly connect to the dc side of the battery. This will decrease the power loss, fourth I wished I could help In the build process because this is the exact reason I want a Tesla. You Beat Me To it.

That rotary is quite of a piece of engineering! I cant help but feel like it would not be able to hold a candle to the efficiency of the diesel though. If I know anything about rotaries, they like to drink oil as well as gas; they're notoriously inefficient. Can't wait to see you put it to the test!
@ShivaShakur
@ShivaShakur 10 ай бұрын
The only reason that the rotaries we are familiar with are inefficient is they want to run at high RPM/high % load of their designed output. So a 230 hp 1.3L Renesis engine wants to make 230hp, not the 65hp you need to cruise down the highway. I believe Mazda is working on a Rotary engine range-extended "EV".
@drkalamity4518
@drkalamity4518 10 ай бұрын
@ShardAerithes i see what you're saying, but as someone who dailied a shinka for years I can attest that they are terrible on gas at any rpm. No amount of babying will get the Renesis to curb its appetite, besides what fun is a rotary that's not screaming!? I know that's not the point of their new rotary but still that's why I love em
@ShivaShakur
@ShivaShakur 10 ай бұрын
@@drkalamity4518 sorry mate, I think I didn't explain what I meant properly. So when you're going down the highway on flat ground at normal speeds, you only need like 40 or 60 horsepower to overcome the wind and the mechanical resistance (drivetrain, tires, etc) to keep rolling along. A 0.3 or 0.5L rotary would probably be pretty good at making that kind of power, under high load and rpm. So humming along at 70mph would probs be similar efficiency (better?) to doing the same with a smallish (1.5L?) 4 cylinder. The rotary is good at making its design power, but not very efficient at light loads. I used to have a 6 speed shinka RX8 and I know it could never get comparatively good mileage for a car of its power. The Renesis was too big for good mileage just cuz they aren't good at light loads, and the motor is designed for 235hp. So if you can make a little tiny rotary that can operate at its peak efficiency (high load, asking for 80-90% of its total design hp) then it'll use a lot less gas - maybe less than a piston engine of the same power. That's why rotaries might be good for range extenders :) hope that helps - btw this is just based on things I've read about the 13b over the years. I'm not an expert but I do like all kinds of motors. :) 👍

A very cool and fun project, at the end I was disappointed by the fuel consumption but had forgotten that it is still a 1000hp all wheel drive car! My thoughts are to ditch the turbo at least temporarily and improve the aerodynamics. I suspect at a modest cruising speed but with better aero you could save more than that 50w/h per mile deficit. Without intercooling the turbo may not be the increase in air mass into the engine that you are seeking...

@g0fvt
@g0fvt 10 ай бұрын
@@Avetho reducing battery capacity (and weight) seemed like a good idea but it might not allow the heavy discharge for that 1000hp.... Rolling resistance of these heavy cars is probably their biggest enemy with economy. I am in a part of the world where we use the imperial gallon so the economy of this car is not as bad as I initially thought. It is obviously not competitive to a compact diesel car weighing less than half of the standard Tesla. I am sure the emissions from this small engine do not compete with a modern car diesel either. I am not slating it, it is a very cool project and fun. In the winter the diesel could be very handy for pre-conditioning the battery pack as well as warming the cabin.
