have you tried the 3 compartment petri dishes for the spore isolating? its kinda in between doing the trays with the little holes and full petris. a bit more efficient potentially without it being super tedious.

thanks for sharing. I've tried twice with no success to grow cordyceps. I think the failure was due to temp. The next time I will put them in a little fridge turned down to the lowest setting which keeps it at 50F. Hope it grows this time.

Your predominantly collecting just the spores? Can you use different tissue samples from each varieties and put them on the agar, and see which sections meet together, and would that now be considered a new species or hybrid? Or do you specifically need spores to breed and fruit body tissue won't work?

no the tissue is diploid and would not mate, it would compete. The spores are haploids and mate if they are compatible and form new diploid pairs that can be unique.

some would say yes but I do not think it’s best practice. In a pinch it could work but if there are mycelium hiding beneath or within the cordyceps matrix it will just come back like a weed

Aren’t cordyceps really high in oxalates? Is there an amount that is safe or are the levels of oxalates too high?

from my brief research internet says they as well as most mushrooms, veggies, potatoes are high in oxalates but most are insoluble in mushrooms
