This was originally a Slipknot song but Corey wasn't sure if it should be added to the album it's on, but Paul Gray, Corey's best friend and Slipknot bassist, insisted that it should be added. The song is about a toxic relationship he had with an ex, but it's extra heavy as Paul Gray is not around anymore. He died a few years back. So for Corey there's a lot of dark weight with this song

The raw emotion is just so real and heartbreaking. At 7:01 you hear a fan sing "whoah oh!" before Corey comes in, and you'll notice he is virtually choking back tears. The fan was correct on the timing, Corey just needed an extra 10 seconds to continue. This performance makes me cry every time. Corey is a master...an true artist. ❤🤘

Corey wins another woman's heart🤘😆 Corey has always been vague by saying it's about "a woman" who helped him in dark times of his life and he thought she felt the same as him but she didn't. Many think it's about his ex wife Scarlett. The song got incredibly more meaningful with Corey's best friend and Slipknot bassist Paul Gray helping him with it. Paul pushed Corey to complete and release this song as Corey wasn't originally going to. At that time, Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison heard it, had them make a basic track, and later went and made the drum track for it without Corey knowing. When Joey played it for him, Corey broke down. This song was the last single to be released before Paul died. This song has been forever dedicated to Paul, and is the reason you see Corey look up to to the sky, and the crowd sings it like that. Corey would break down at shows and the crowd would carry it on. Sadly both Paul and now Joey are gone. RIP BROTHERS 🤘 Maggot Corps forever 🤘

3:26 "Corey Corey Corey, what are you doing to my soul?" This song came out in 2008, and the video released in 2009. Right after my engagement failed. Talk about perfect timing lol. When this song came out, it beat me down and stole my lunch money. I finally got to see Slipknot live for the first time in 18 years back in March, and they actually played this one during their set, which is rare. This song still beats me up.

You just know that everytime they play this song Paul is right there smiling. And with how much this song means to corey because of writing it with Paul, he must be happy that all it took was those 2 distinct notes in the intro for the crowd to roar in approval.

The first time he looks skywards is during the lyric "I couldn't face a life without your light" - Paul was a gentle giant that was just so full of love. I can't imagine how Corey felt performing this at that time. It still gets me watching all these years later.

This is the last song Paul Gray had a significant involvement with before his passing. Corey originally wasn't sure about publishing it under the slipknot label as it didn't fit their theme. Paul convinced him to do it, and the rest is history. It is easily one of the most significant and emotional slipknot songs now, and every fan of corey, knows how much this means to him. Hence his extreme emotion while singing it, whenever he looks up, he's looking to Paul

The lyrics of Slipknot’s “Snuff” tell the sad story of an unrequited love. The narrator has found someone whom he loves so dearly and even believes that she also has strong feelings of love for him. However, this apparently isn’t the case! She has not the slightest bit of love for him. And from the lyrics, we can see that the primary reason she can’t love the narrator back is because of the extreme darkness residing in her heart and soul. According to Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, this is a very personal song. He said the person he’s singing to was someone very special to him who helped him survive a really dark episode of his life. He ended up falling for her and thought she had similar feelings for him. However, at the end of the day she disappointed him in a really heartbreaking fashion. Below are the exact words Corey used in describing this song during a 2008 interview he had with Kerrang!

Fairly certain the song is about Corey's ex-wife. They divorced in '07 and in an interview in '08, same year that the album "All Hope is Gone" was released that "Snuff" is on, he was quoted regarding his ex, "After I got sober, I realized my relationship wasn't right for me. My wife and I had damaged each other too much." The other reason that this is such a difficult/heavy song for him though is it is the last song he wrote together with former Slipknot bassist, Paul Gray. The album/song came out in '08 and Paul died in 2010. Was both surprised and loved that Slipknot put it back in the setlist for this latest tour. Saw them back on April 1st in Greensboro. Fantastic show (as always) and was great to sing along to this live. And knowing that Paul's death was due to overdose, you should check out the first track, "XIX" on the album they released after Paul's death, ".5 The Gray Chapter". It's short and to the point about the pain and grief they were all feeling.

I love this reaction. Your perspective on the songs you're reacting to is very accurate. I like how you respond to songs I've loved for a really long time. If I may, I'd like to recommend one from Linkin Park. I was thinking of "One More Light", live from Jimmy Kimmel. If you haven't seen it yet, I'd strongly recommend it because Chester Bennington put a lot of emotion into his voice for this performance. It's a song that was written for a friend of his who passed away from cancer, but during the concert, he dedicated the performance to Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Audioslave. Chris took his own life a few months before Chester did. It's sad to see, given how talented they were, but I'm happy to see that they left us with a lot of beautiful music that will remain for the rest of my life and everyone else who has been healed by their voices. Keep it metal. \m/

Corey and the band Slipknot had a very very hard way to drive in their career (drugs, alcohol) and I think this song is about the frustration, the difficult mode they had to be in the top, to be one of the best metal bands of 2000's . Maybe love of someone, maybe remembering someone who passed away. The point is that Slipknot is in the heart of Corey, in the heart of many people, that get their goals with the help of music, even falling in many times, but standing up again and again, and bufff Hard song, yep 💔

Song has helped me through some incredibly difficult moments, feel fortunate enough to have seen this performed live with his solo CMFT band, and likely to see it performed by Slipknot this summer, can’t wait!
