Have you ever seen a mysterious black bird with its wings spread wide drying off on a rock? That's a Cormorant, an incredible water bird with a talent for fishing! These diving birds aren't your average crows. Cormorants come in all sizes, some as big as ducks, with sleek black feathers, long hooked beaks perfect for catching fish, and webbed feet for paddling underwater. They can dive incredibly deep, sometimes reaching up to 45 meters!
Cormorants are social birds with long necks, often seen in groups on coasts, cliffs, or even trees. They're found almost everywhere in the world except for some Pacific islands. In India, you might see the Little Cormorant or the even larger Great Cormorant. Look for Little Cormorants in rivers, ponds, and smaller bodies of water, while Great Cormorants prefer larger lakes and rivers. #birds #wildlife #nature
Speaking of fishing, did you know that in some places, people use cormorants to catch fish? These fishing birds are experts at their craft! The bird catches fish, but a special band stops it from swallowing the biggest ones. The fisherman then helps the cormorant and keeps the big catch. It's an ancient tradition still practiced in some parts of Asia!
