In this video I am planting our second largest food plot into primarily corn and soybeans. I am leaving a portion of it unplanted for now and then this summer I will plant a brassica blend in the plot as well. This food plot acts as a destination plot for the deer. We hunt the transition between bedding and the plot. That way we can avoid the big plot keeping it unpressured to the deer so they will continue to use the pattern of moment to the plot everyday. This is going to turn into a killer food plot this year with a great mix of all the 3 major food plot crops Corn, Soybeans, and Brassicas.

I need one of these planters. Or if someone makes a modern version that can be pulled by a ATV. Picked up a 44 acre farm on a budget now after I found out I have to take down the house.

They only new version of a small planter for atv/ Utv setup is the genesis no till drills which are way overpriced. Better off buying a 3 point hookup 2 row for a tractor or something like this.

Good video and I like the drone parts I have a question what do you spray for weeds Co-op said you can’t spray for weeds after your corn and beans are up
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks...I use generic glyphosate. Not sure what the Co-op meant by that. All farmers spray when crops are up. Without chemicals it’s almost impossible to grow a good crop of corn or soybeans. Even pre-emergent herbicides need to be sprayed after germination.

in those bare spots of beans you should spread brassicas in this fall. also i am really jealous of your soil and land i hunt in northern mn so it’s pretty sandy and lots of pine trees and not to many ag fields for the deer
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 4 жыл бұрын
I was planning on doing that, but the weeds will probably fill in those spots before I plant the brassicas unfortunately. Up where you are it probably doesn’t even pay to plant soybeans unless you have a couple acres right? If there is no ag around the deer would probably be eating your plots to the dirt.
@ryanmeland2935
@ryanmeland2935 4 жыл бұрын
Wisconsin Whitetail yes the closest thing to ag right around my property is the hay and clover fields farmers have within a couple miles of us. anything we plant in our couple small food plots gets crushed hard and most of the time they eat the tops off the brassicas before it’s even hunting season so this year we are going to mix in some clover, brassicas, maybe some winter rye come fall so the deer have other greens to eat so they stop eating the tops off
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 4 жыл бұрын
Ryan definitely mix in some winter rye or leave a portion of the plot empty that you can seed winter rye into in early September. You canot over seed it so put it down thick. Winter rye is very browse tolerant like clover and grows into the winter as long as it is warmer than 40 degrees. It comes back in the early spring offering a lot of food before everything else greens up.

Just an idea. Why don't you put Japanese millet in the section that is too wet to grow corn. Millet won't grow unless it has that damp base and deer and turkey will eat it too. As well as ducks.

@@wisconsinwhitetail9744 kinda, in some ways. Plenty of informative videos on youtube. Brown and Japanese are th two most common. Brown in th brown dirt. Japanese goes in the moist dirt. Or complete saturated. As soon as water is drained from a pond. Just spread th seed. It only gets about 6 foot at the tallest in most cases. Where Sorghum gets up there

@@wisconsinwhitetail9744 This off-season, take a soil sample from the area that isn’t growing well. You assume that the soil quality is the same as that nearby. However, the soil there could have eroded and needs nutrients and could be supported with things like Lime. etc.

Maybe, but I highly doubt it. We took a sample this spring in a bad spot of our other big food plot in very similar soil where the corn only got about 6 ft tall. It ended up being a 6.8 for ph but it was very low in potassium and phosphorus.
