The drought that we have been dealing with is really taking its toll on our corn this year, causing us to have to start chopping our corn earlier than we'd like. The International 1256 on the New Holland 790 Corn Chopper get right to work. You can really see the difference in the corn throughout the field. Back at the farm, the John Deere 820 is pulling Badger Chopper Boxes to the silo where the Case 830 is blowing the silage into our upright silo. The corn is very poor, but with the drought we've been having, we are thankful for anything we can get.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

I always loved chopping corn, when we had more cattle and the pasture got low we would chop a load every few days, but we haven't done that for a few years. We still got the old 718 chopper though! I hope you have a good harvest!

Yup we started chopping corn too. Dad was down by the creek and wouldn't you know it a raccoon jumped in the chopper. I hope that's the worst of it. We are having the same luck with rain splitting and going around. We did get some sprinkles though.

In Southern Wisconsin back in the 50's and 60's we started school right after labor day. That first week of school was usually the week extra help was hired because that was about the time my dad needed them to start filling silos. We had a Fox field chopper but before we had that we had a recutter that chopped the corn right as we blew it into the silos. Wagons were unloaded from the back and always involved 2 men pulling the silage down with hook shaped forks. The silo pipes were metal sections bolted together and were quite a job to hoist up into place. There was a lot of swearing if one of the men unloading pulled down too much silage which would plug the pipe and require it to be disassembled and reerected again. The ladder going up the side of the silo was narrow (about 8" wide) and was in 10 foot sections that hooked behind the silo rings. One time my cousin, Oliver Enge, was climbing the ladder on a 40 foot silo built on a concrete cow yard. He got to the top section of the ladder and that last section had come (unbeknownst to everyone) unhooked from the silo ring at the top. The top section pivoted out from the silo almost 90 degrees but my cousin held on tight and got back to the secure part of the ladder monkey style. If that had been our President, he would have needed special attention to his depends like when he visited the Pope or perhaps leave suddenly after bestowing the medal of honor on a hero unlike the Benedict Arnold that he himself resembles.😂😢

Allen we are very dry also. The rain has went on both sides of us also. If you had your camera on the cab after dark we would know if that tractor is a fire breathing dragon. On a 4020 JD diesel , just after sun down. If your doing heavy tillage. When you go from lite soil to heavy soil. A 4020 becomes a fire breathing dragon! (A tractor pulling a load will have a fire spear above the exhaust pipe). A diesel engine with a turbo has a pyromatur =exhaust thermometer. You run a turbo engine by that gage. Several creeks in this area are dry. The little Arkansas River lost stream flow when are corn was filling ears. No more irrigation water. A local cattle feeder bought it for silage.

Hope you get some worthwhile rain. In our part of Ohio, we were dry from mid May until Jun 11th. Since then, we've been getting enough rain to keep things going. Two weeks ago, we had a little over 5 inches on a Wed and Thur. Some areas had flooding issues and tornado damage. I guess we all have our challenges...just have to put our trust in the LORD and keep plugging away.

That corn when you started sure looked very dry and not in the ripe way. I remember dad would run a hose from the pump house to the blower some years to get more water in the silage so it would ferment if it was too dry. But, that was not too hard to do as the well was only 30ft away from the silo.

No one is thinking about chopping corn here where I live northeast of Toronto Ontario. Except maybe some guys that got hit with a hail storm 3 weeks ago, their corn has died and turning brown. Was your corn planted tight to make more silage or the same as the rest? I have been planting heirloom corn and it gets up to fourteen feet tall but it doesn't like being tighter than nine inches to make ears. Last year I planted it the same six and an half inches apart that I was doing popcorn and there were virtually no ears but good tall stalks for chopping.
