Might be safer to turn off the tractor while the kids grease it.

LOL Those old tractors work best wide open heavy load. My Grandfather had them on his farm. They are basing there concern of ruining the tractor on the fact the new auto hydraulic ones would overheat and literally melt beneath you. LOL

Too, bad you don't have the time to keep picking rocks. You could have found a easier place to farm but that's how it goes. The land in the Great Lakes area (Ohio, Pennsylvania) is some of the best farmland in America but many people settled here and they wound up building cities on it, so.. Hind sights 20/20 we should be farming over here and planting cities on the rocky less fertile land out there! Progress makes no sense but that's what we have to deal with!

That’s like making marks in sand with a stick. No real strain on those tractors. It’s when you are ploughing lay ground with a nice bit of clay in it that the tractor starts to earn its corn. Pun intended. Good luck to you and yours.

When I farmed we started out plowing with a Massey Ferguson 1105 it was rated at105 hp I think it might have been turned up a little but we pulled a5x16" plow on it everyone told us it was to much. For it but it did it. As we went on in farming we never changed plows but we did get a bigger tractor and I think that first tractor we had pulled it better than the bigger one don't know why it just did a better job. We had black dirt where we farmed in central Indiana.Everyone told us that mold board plowing was a terrible way to farm that land it was all going to blow away on that flat land but we raised better crops than the no till farmers and the ground is still there black as ever

Growing up we plowed everything. We did not have free stalls for the milk cows, everything had bedding pack. So we had a lot of trash to turn under.

Awesome video! Do what ever is best for your family! I hope you and your family have a great time together! I live in NC and farmers here still turn over their soil. My parents planted several acres of land in a large garden and several acres of sweet corn. We sold fresh produce to neighbors and a several flea markets. We always had the land turned over in the fall after having manure spread over the land. Thanks for sharing your farm and your family with us! ❤ Take care…❤❤❤❤❤

We’ve pulled a 5x16 with an 886 turned up to about 100hp for the whole life of the tractor and the plow as they were bought brand new together back in 1977. Hay ground about 5.5 miles and hr, corn ground about 6.5 mph. I couldn’t care less what others say, it’s been doing it for 47 years and we’re in the middle of plowing this year just like always.

Hi Alan great video you do not need expensive shiny machinery full of unreliable Hi Tec gizmos you do a great with what you have . I farmed for over60 years till i retired 6 year ago on some of the heaviest wettest clay soils you could find here in England which was all drained and needed subsoiling most years weather permitting . I used both plough and min till and they both worked well no 2 years are alike and used mostly second hand tractors and machinery which i used to adapt to do a better job . I think there are 3 key things in farming know your land no 1. maintenance no2 . and get stuck in when the weather is right' We have had one of the wettest 12 months in living memory in England and the one thing i have noticed where crops have been put in with the plough and early they have faired a lot better than the fancy No Till Drilled fields there is need for all methods not just one .Keep doing what you know best .
