MM General bent in natural finish is my first choice and I have a large collection of Petersons and Savinelli’s. I enjoy a pretty pure Burley either Cube Cut or Broken Flake. I have a long term contact at MM and she aways takes care of my order. When I’m trying a new tobacco, my cob is the first choice. The General will go for an hour or maybe more on a full bowl.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

This is the greatest video ever on the many vertues of the "lowly" Corncob pipe. I've smoked Briars & "real" Meerchams for years but I prefer Corncobs over any other kind of pipe - with or without the filter. Years ago I would buy a quantity at a time straight from the Missouri Meerscham factory. Very nice & friendly communication back & forth. Thank You !

I've been smoking briar pipes for years, but I just got my first cob (a MM "Let Freedom Ring" bent) about a week ago. I got it as a beater pipe, but I'm loving it so much that now I want to add more cobs to my regular briar collection. My cob smokes cool and dry, and it gives the tobacco a pleasant nutty/woody flavor. Also, I've been using Savinelli 6mm balsa filters, which work well with the filter stem. I'm officially a cob fan now.

Nice video on the value of the simple cob. I have maybe 80 briars and about 20 plus various cobs. I will tell you that I tend to smoke my cobs more due to all the reasons you have stated. When traveling, they are all I smoke as I don’t want to expose my briars. Some blends do charter much better in cobs versus briars from my experience. And yes, there is an unnecessary degree of pretentiousness and snobbery in the piping community regarding the merits of an inexpensive cob and aromatic blends that is certain, Oh well, their loss IMO.

I started with MM Cobs and have slowly grown my briar collection, including one meerschaum, and even a few I've carved myself. I have over 20 briar pipes now, but I still go back to my cobs from time to time. One of my best smoking pipes is a cob that I got out of a bag of smokable seconds. I've smoked it so much that the side is cracking and it's in danger of burning out, but it's right up there in smoking performance with my absolute best briars, and I'm going to be very sad when it finally burns out, even though it's ugly as sin. Thanks for the convo!

From Washington Missouri, that was a fun video. Rather unexpected, but fun. You're ever in the area you should check out their "museum" behind the factory. It's pretty small, but at a whopping cost of nothing I mean the price is right. Probably take you 15 minutes to half an hour to get through. They got some kind of cool stuff comment and the staff is pretty knowledgeable and quite a lot of fun to talk to as well.

Thanks a lot for sharing what corncob pipes are all about. I cannot help fully agreeing with you for the opinions about corncob pipes. There are people who see pipes as a kind of art. There are people who use pipes just as tools. And there are people who require pipes to be artistic and pragmatic. I believe corncob pipes can meet all expectations all these people have. As a Japanese, it is a lot of fun to import what is new in Missouri Meerchams.

Konnichi-wa Hiro, I totally agree with you. At least in Germany MM-Lover increase after many years of missing experiences with CCs. I remember that Scott (aristocob) and I did our very best to prove that MMCCs last longer that 20 fillings. For whatever reason back then (must have been around 2011) people in the US as well as in Europe believed in the myth that CC can be smoked no longer than maybe 20 times and should then be replaced. 😳 Scott smoked the same pipe more than 50 times in a row and so did I. The result: My CC from back then still is a great smoker. I bought it in 2002 and still love it! There are no fancy Corn Cob pipes available in Germany yet and I'm not sure whether or not the German market would like them. The classic CC, country gentleman, General and Douglas MacArthur as well as Apple CCs are our favorites. Today, more and more pipers in Germany love MMCCs. It's been a hard way ... 😊 Happy Puffing Lars P.S.: In my pipes playlist you'll find a video about Missouri Corn Cobs. There you'll see my CCs. 😊

I've smoked pipes for around thirty years. I did try a Cobb for a little while shortly after I started really getting into the pipes. Of course there was no KZfaq or even Internet back then for any information. So my Cobb was probably a very cheap one. Even though by that time I already had a Peterson, and three other Briar pipes. But the one thing I noticed with the Cobb pipe was this slightly sweet taste during smoking that seemed to grow stronger and stronger the closer I got to the end of my tabbaco in it's bowl. I can't tell you what the stem was made of for sure. But it was probably plastic. So I quickly became sick of that sweet corn note that came through stronger and stronger while I smoked the Cobb and I finally threw it away. And I've never tried another one. But your video has got me to thinking about trying them again. Now that I know there's more options for a more quality Cobbs out there I pretty sure that I'm going to get a Missouri Mershem with a better stem and give it another try. Thank you for the information.

What's good enough for Popeye, Mammy Yokum, and Frosty the Snowman is good enough for me! ;-) I bought my first pipe, a briar, in 1961, and it was a year or so before I bought a corn cob to try. I've never been without several of them since and have about ten at the moment. OK, you're probably not going to bring one to a formal wedding reception, but in most settings, don't worry that some people might think you're a hick or too impoverished to have a "real" pipe. Those people are not worth thinking about anyway. Some of my college and law school profs smoked corn cobs; 'nuff said.

I just ‘hot smoked’ two of my cobs to burn off the shank that protrudes into the chamber by filling it 1/3 with a bright Virginia and puffing hard (to avoid tongue bite, I only partially seal with my mouth when drawing). One of the cobs is almost flush with the draw hole at the bottom, the other has a 1/8 inch gap which I’ll probably need to to mud. What are you using for mortar?
