Where I live, we call them hush puppies. You can add anything to hush puppies - cheese, jalapeño, etc
@inthekitchenwithtallifaye47244 ай бұрын
Yes!.. These are just like hush puppies but a little bit lighter… And I think frying them up in little patties probably changes the texture in that the crust in patty form is a little lighter than a hush puppy… but all in all it’s another take on hush puppy batter

@inthekitchenwithtallifaye47243 ай бұрын
@@christine1962ful These need to be fried in oil to make the crust right… I think the air fryer would dry them out in the middle and you can’t achieve that beautiful heavy crust 😊

Good morning 😊… this recipe in particular doesn’t have any baking powder… it’s kinda like a hot water cornbread texture but made with buttermilk. The buttermilk gives it a slight rise but leaves it moist where it won’t crumble like regular cornbread does 😊

These look delicious! Why does the buttermilk need to be low fat or diluted whole buttermilk? Would whole buttermilk not work? Thank you.
@inthekitchenwithtallifaye47244 ай бұрын
I wasn’t sure myself why this recipe in particular called for low-fat… Buttermilk has acid in it which helps make them puff up so I really don’t think it matters that much other than the batter is already thick so the low fat is a thinner liquid so with me using the whole buttermilk just that little tad of water added helped it to not be quite so thick 😊

I am over 80 years old and never heard of putting flour in your cornbread until I started watching these vidos. Can someone tell me the reason for doing this?
@inthekitchenwithtallifaye47244 ай бұрын
I know… My grandmother didn’t either… I guess it just evolved into that… Adding flour to the mixture just makes the bread a slightly cake like texture… It doesn’t crumble as much…I always add half the measurement of flour to the meal…
