Gooday and hope you're well. Yes I did say in my last video that I'd be taking an extended leave of absence, possibly for the remainder of this year. However the simple truth is, I just can't stay away.
This is also due in no small part to a viewer who sent me a recipe for Corned Beef Hash Pasties. Obviously and especially as I'm unable to resist anything made with crispy puff pastry, I just had to make it for you.
This wasn't an easy thing to do though, as it's currently the autumn (fall) here in the UK - which means it's time for my old 'friend' Seasonal Adjusted Disorder (S.A.D.) to rear it's jolly head - and I discuss this briefly, in the video.
Later and with the pasties safely in the oven, I share with you some exciting and totally unexpected news, about my financial net worth . . .
--------------------
If you'd like to contribute to my channel and future videos, then I have a PayPal Me page. Cheers, www.paypal.com/paypalme/kevin...
All 6 seasons of Travels By Narrowboat are available to stream on Amazon Prime, with Season 7 here on KZfaq.

your net worth is the impact you have on your audience/friends. it's not a trivial impact, i've thought about life choices and directions in part to your travels and thoughtfulness. i'm positive this sentiment is not unique. if you want to talk about anything, i'm here to listen.

Suffered the same modes all my life, good to know I'm not alone. I'm going to use that expression "Just Ticking Over" season's will soon change. I always pick myself up by thinking that others are in a worse situation than myself. Hopefully will see you on the cut at some point, as through you and others inspiration on YT I will be purchasing a narrow boat in the near future. I have never made a cornbeef pasty but I did follow your pork pie recipe with a totally different outcome on several attempts. Stay Safe Kev

Kevin, thank you for sharing your personal thoughts about how you feel and the way you deal with S.A.D. I think by giving the viewer insight on the differing ways you've attempted to engage with your mental health will perhaps help others who have the same issues. Anyway, thank you for your videos and wish you all the best.

Seeing you pop up was like seeing an old friend. If I could draw a picture it would be me in my house with not another soul in sight, but snow covered ground for as far as the eyes can see and then suddenly you appear with a new recipe to share. Cheers Kev, so glad you stopped by.

I'm with you on the hibernating feeling. Always had it, got worse the older I get. I think it's perfectly natural. Goes back deep into our evolution. This time of year, and throughout the winter, food would have been scarce so preserving ones energy would have been the right choice. There are also the things you can only enjoy this time of year, such as staring into the flames of a fire, not thinking of anything in particular. Snuggling under the duvet when the wind and rain is howling outside, and of course pasties. Now we know your net worth, would it be a good time to ask if you could lend me a tenner?
@CountryHouseGent
@CountryHouseGent 2 жыл бұрын
Very true Mick. Only recently there's been research into it and it's believed our ancestors, as little as 400 years ago, used to essentially hibernate in the colder months and for the very reasons you give. Sorry but I had to give most of it away for emergency 'eye operations'. :D

Thanks for sharing Barry's cooking inspiration. (1) brush with beaten egg. Much nicer glaze than milk and you can add the remaining mix to the spare hash (2) Re-live WW2 by making rissoles with the left-over hash. Coat patties in bread crumbs and fry off when hunger calls. Greggs would be proud of you!

Kevin, I just happened upon this past video and, as always, enjoyed you cooking. I must admit I had my doubts, as I've never seen corn beef hash inside a dough... but it all worked out. You made me laugh with the ketchup, as my brother, Peter, put ketchup on EVERYTHING. BTW, congrats on that unexpected $157,000,000. Don't spend it all in one place. Leigh

Your insights, humor and discussions are very light for the most part. But it’s your show, don’t let others dictate what you write and say in your “book of life” so to speak. Every person, each day, fights the internal battle of what they want to do and what they need to do. You have a very positive take on all. Still enjoying the countryside and wildlife views. Gracias.

Many thanks Debra. You're quite right. Every aspect of life is trying to find a balance between what we want as individuals, and giving others what they want. So good to see you! Thanks for breaking your leave of absence. S.A.D. is a real thing my father suffered from it and finally spent his winters in Florida then moved there full time. Sadly he only lasted about 1 year after the move, cancer got him. I do believe S.A.D. is partly from lack of sunshine and he was much better in Florida. All the while I was watching you slice and dice, I noticed you removed the microwave you never used and installed something else on that wall. Curious as to what that is. Soap dispenser? Thank you, Kevin! I go through about the same each year. Not depressed, just not capable of the same level of engagement or enthusiasm from the other 7-10 months. It's good to hear someone else sharing a similar situation without over-inflating it. As a viewer from the USA, a descendant of Canadian Britains, I enjoy watching you making traditional meals in your serialized programs, many of which end up being in my personal range of taste. I enjoy that a segment of your programming goes into that. Would you mind making Yorkshire Pudding some day? It's a favorite of mine from my mother and grandmother. Last and most important to me, I love the sound of Aslan's engine and the natural ambience as I'm heading off to sleep. Your consistently attenuated voice as you talk to yourself and others is fine as well. Would you mind putting up some longer videos of yourself and Aslan navigating the canals?

Wow it's great to see you again! I was so sad on your last video, that when I saw this pop up it really made me happy. I live in West Texas where the terrain is sandy, dusty, and scarce of vegetation even when it's not autumn/winter. I've tried to adjust with an attitude of 'find a project' around/inside the house. I've been painting the last few years & noticed I paint a lot more this time of year. Maybe there's a project on Aslan, or a hobby you've set aside that you could revisit. I'm just really glad to see you, and thankful you put this video up. No need to be witty all the time, just check in with us now & then 😉

Cheers Kevin! It's always good to see another installment from our favorite KZfaqr. Keep fighting the good fight. We all suffer from SAD from time to time. It's all in how you deal with it. I like to watch 'Duck Soup' from the Marx Brothers or the late great Leslie Nielsen in 'Police Squad'. Those always give me a good laugh and brighten my day. I also watch past episodes of you Kevin. You're in good company there. Take care. Your friends in Indiana.

Kevin loved the lighthearted video, going to try your pasty which should be very comforting as the snow fly's and the lake's and rivers freeze over here in Canada.

Good to see you. I much prefer the brighter, sunnier days. This time of year I always think just a couple Of months to go and I’ll be looking forward to spring again. ☀️🌸

Great to see you again, liked the cooking segment. One of reasons why you're a must watch. Your street camera work is also very interesting and of course mainly your travelling journeys. Hope see more of your videos as soon as possible as they are most appreciated for their simplicity and honesty. A CHG calendar has been mentioned here as a possible suggestion to purchase. Best Regards Sean and Co.

Well I just finished eating dinner, and by the time I finished watching you I was starving all over again!! I also suffer from SAD, I think I'll borrow your phrase that you're hibernating, I love it! It's exactly what I wish I was doing, especially since it's already so cold here in Michigan. Cheers!!

Nice to see you pop up. It’s like having an old friend stop by. You and Asian got me through some sleepless nights last year. Sorry you’re dealing with winter blues. Hopefully good food, good music and good friends will see you through until Spring. Stay well.

Nice to see you again, I live in central Maine and get the same feeling. I think I will make some Cornish pasties to quell my woes.

I had my first pastyin the UK in Thirsk. It was lovely. I tried to make it at home and it turned out dry. Maybe I will try your recipe. Thanks for the cooking episode! What a nice treat. One more month and it will be midwinter. The very next day after that I always declare it to be “spring” 😌

It's minus -10C in Boston mid January and you popped up in this warm kitchen episode! I know it's my 2nd viewing, but delightful nonetheless! Thank you for sending a warm message this chilly morning in New England.
