Cornell student suspended over Gaza protest speaks out

Cornell University in the state of New York is suspending enrolment and study for students who participate in campus protests demanding an end to Israel's war on Gaza.
The school says that this is because students set up an encampment which they did not seek permission for.
Across many American universities - student protesters have set up encampments on their campuses and are calling for their universities to withdraw investment from companies with links to the Israeli military.
Nick Wilson is a Second-year undergraduate student at Cornell University and a protest organiser with the Coalition for Mutual Liberation.
He was suspended two days ago for participating in a demonstration at the campus against Israel's war on Gaza.
He joins us from Ithaca, New York to explain his side of the story.

I’m a Cornell student, and I want them out. The Arts quad is surrounded by classrooms and the protestors make noise. I was walking to the library at 7 am and I got driven up to and followed by a cop car just for passing by them. The administration isn’t backing down; notice the boy avoids answering the interviewer’s questions- no, there’s no progress in negotiation, despite being there since Thursday, and there’s a silent majority of people who haven’t voted for divestment and aren’t on board.

Is it their parents or the state's responsibility to subsidize their activism by paying for their tution and expenses? The Palestinian people voted in Hamas to govern them knowing that they want to eradicate Israel from the face of the earth. As a Cornell Alum I can tell you that we have had a long history of protests on campus. The College says that they encourage community engagement and social activism but then do things like this. Why is it that students are being suspended now for thigs that countless have done in the past? The college needs to do better. I am proud of these students!

Nick Wilson not a student but a teacher . He is educating the American public and all those who support the genocide taking place of how morally wrong they are. And all those who sit on the fence and pretend they can’t do anything or won’t make a difference that their moral duty is to join the movement or at least speak out. They are the heroes of our time and history will remember them when genocide was taking place they risked all worldly futures to balanced their conscience as that what we humans have to live with and that is the essence of humanity.

Bravo students! Your protest are very important and meaningful. You don't see it now but they have a tremendous impact, even Netanyahu bitterly complained about it, republican(fox) channels try to downplay protest, it means protest have lot of power and can force changes. The Uni is not prohibiting all protests. They are dealing with persons who are breaking school regulation or breaking state law. Most of these persons are NOT students. Some have even been lead to believe this “protest” is a school or class approved function. This has been deemed a terrorist demonstration.
