Same here, and I grew up in the 2000’s. Only TV we could afford was on the antenna and we lived in the sticks so all we ever got was an old channel that ran re runs of andy griffith and the like. Never had a dad neither so andy griffith was especially good. Need more good role models like that on tv, especially with TV’s being the parent for most kids anyhow.

100% agreed. He played it up a *teensie* bit just to be charmin', but yep you're right, that's the way those folks used to talk. The word "tote" is especially bright in my recollection as being my grandpa's favorite way to say "carry." He reminds me of my grandparents, too. They talked slower, they lived slower, and they're fading in my happiest childhood memories slower, too.

Agreed. My grandma and grandpa were from Haywood County and when I listen to him I feel like a little part of them is still alive somehow. Helps to remember them. ❤

Oh, that's great! It's wonderful that you were able to find something your mother remembered from years ago and share it with her! You can find just about ANYTHING on KZfaq-- so if your mother has a song she remembers from long ago, or a radio show she used to listen to, or anything else like that, you can probably find it on KZfaq. I'm sure you'll be able to find many other fond memories to share with your mother-- and you're right: such moments are priceless.

@@NReese-if1nm YES! My mom passed away about 20 years ago. I recently Googled her name and location 2,500 miles away, and I found a photo of her when she was about 2-3 yrs old with her little dog! It was in the 1930s Windsor Star archives. I also found a photo of her father whom I'm named after! I only have 2 brothers left of our family, but we are estranged so that was so cool to find those relics!

I'll be 61 soon and I'm often told I don't look like it. In many areas I share the opinions of younger people. But this is a classic. It was one of my dad's favorites. Daddy even sounded like him. Because of daddy I love football and this Andy Griffith sketch is near and dear to my heart. Glad technology has allowed us to preserve it.

This truly sums up the one sport I never had any use for and still don't. Adults still playing children's games.

@@mr.blackhawk142 Ice hockey is a grueling sport and I have never attended a game. However, when playing soccer in high school, I was always chosen as the gaurd because of my build. My father was a huge baseball fan and I, growing up in Portland, OR, used to attend an occasional game there....even occasionally hitch-hiking 30 miles to do so. However, as I became more interested in astronomy, lost interest in sports, and that is how my life has gone. On my final day at a school in my 2nd year, I attended in Oregon, the football coach, who was built like a Wazookie Warrier, cornered me on the way out and told me, "Clerk....you're one of the few here who have the build for playing football...either you go out for it next year or I'll personally see you get an "F" in PE. I didn't have the courage to tell him that as soon as I got home we were moving to California, and if he wanted me to play, he'd have to come the 800 miles there and get me...but always wish I had. I could never understand my complete and total lack of interest in sports...then one day while driving and listening to the radio, the subject came up..one of the guys made the statement..... "Professional sports are essentially grown men still playing children's games"...YUP, that's it. Growing up in dark rural skies pf Oregon, I became interested in astronomy at a very early age, but I never saw my first total solar eclipse until I was 39, (1980) took a week off of work (without pay) and drove 1000 miles to do so. Since then I've traveled the world, have been in 19 countries and witnessed my last one from Argentina...my 10th and my Aussie 2'nd wife's 4th. If you think I'm wealthy....couldn't be farther from the truth and currently drive an 88 Pontiac Fiero 5 speed V6....the only true mid-engine car ever made in the USA. NEVER bought a new car in my life...let someone else take the beating as my 1st wife's uncle often said. New motorcycles? Well, that's another story....but always paid cash. BHE

@@carlaaustin7223 Yes. Andy was born in Mount Airy, NC and went to school in Chapel Hill. Mount Airy is the model for Mayberry, and Pilot Mountain (which is a short distance away from Mount Airy) was the model for Mount Pilot.

I remember hearing him when I was young. He was one of the few my mom would let me hear, because he didn't cuss or do adult themed comedy. Plus, she was from NC, and thought he was 'dreamy' handsome, as she would say.

We had the LP. I believe it was called No Time For Sergeants. I played it over and over again. There was also a folksy retelling of Romeo & Juliet and the opera Carmen.

My uncle had it in his collection and I heard it when I was 17 circa 1970. I rolled on the floor laughing. My uncle was in the room. He made the dry comment that apparently I enjoyed the story.
