May Carson is the type of person that America was founded upon. I've heard my mother and father speak of people like this, they're always looking out for others and willing to help anyway they can. We need more people like May in our world today. Thanks Bob and Kelli for sharing another wonderful episode of TCR. Stan in Northern Idaho.

As a young guy my Dad would travel between Carlsbad and El Paso in his old rickety simi trucks and in the summer he would take us. We would beg to stop in Cornudas just to get out of the truck. This brings back so many memories. Thanks TCR.

God knows I love small towns in West Texas. Bob and Kelli make it all that much more special. Next time I drive between Dallas (Daughter number 1) to San Diego (Daughter number 2), I will absolutely make it a point to stop here.

I watched a documentary about Cornudas. Looks like a young man owns it now. I’m wondering what happened to Mary Carson. I’m hoping she has just retired she seems like a treasure of Texas. I’ll have to take me a back country road trip one day and go that direction. Thanks for another great documentary of a sweet lady. A Texas jewel she is

@@bevoburn Yeah, just saw a video of him praising himself for charging $10 a gallon with a minimum of 5 gallons purchase for gas and making $6.50 PER GALLON profit on it. Best I can tell, he bought it about a year ago. So far, the only thing I see the cafe is selling as of that video is cookies he scooped up from a toll house cookie tub, cooked them in his home kitchen oven, walked them over to the cafe on the cookie sheet and praising himself yet again for the profit he is making. The town has lost it's 'feel' it appears. Land developer meets small town country and guess what happens.

Sadly MS May passed away Dec 7, 2018 from "complications from Bone Cancer." In fact, she had long passed away when this video was published. Someone else bought it and from the looks of his videos, it will never be the same. He has painted over her name on the roof and it is now called Jaz Cafe. From what I have seen in his videos, the only thing he is selling is gasoline for $10 a gallon with a minimum of 5 gallon purchase. He boasts about making a "$6.50 profit PER GALLON." Where Ms. May was there to HELP people. Also, he is MEASURING on a scale portions of toll house cookie dough from a tub in his kitchen, baking them in his oven and walking them to the cafe on the baking sheet and again, praising himself for the profit he is making. Other than cookies, it appears that is all he is offering for now in the cafe due to "remodeling." I have not been back since he purchased it so all I have to go by are his video updates. MAYBE he has more up and running now??? No clue. However, times have certainly changed for Cornudas. Ms. May Carson IS DEEPLY MISSED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP sweet lady you were and are still VERY LOVED. Presidents, First Ladies and celebrities have been there. YOU are what made Cornudas what it was. IMHO, when your spirit left this world, so did the spirit of Cornudas.

@@cameraman655 Thank you. I was going to say the same thing. I believe TCR began decades ago as a PBS show. I enjoy seeing these "Classic" shows along with new videos! Side note & trivia -- Houston's (Channel 8?) was the first PBS station in the USA.
@cameraman655
@cameraman655 2 жыл бұрын
@@michelericca6728 if I remember correctly, TCR started off as a production for the Dallas station, KDFW called ‘4 Country Reporter’ in 1972, moving on to rival WFAA in the 80s as a syndicated series. I seem to recall reading that the production company was acquired by Texas Monthly. Indeed, Channel 8 was the first Public Broadcaster (1953), but considering that PBS would not come into existence until 1970, it is a grey area as to whether it was the “first” PBS station in the US.
