Waste Management of the Inland Empire services the City of Corona. I was able to find four garbage trucks finishing up here after volunteering at the El Sobrante Landfill's annual Day Camp.
Little background to how and why I ended up filming trucks in Corona. My friend Kevin, who has shared some of his vast collection of pictures from all over with me to share with all of you, was able to come out to the El Sobrante Landfill to help with the event. As we were leaving, we saw a refurbished LE/Wittke Curotto Can (263492) leaving the recycling transfer, and we were stunned by how awesome it looked. We also spotted WM's two mini Amreps heading into the landfill, and so we waited at the bottom of the hill for them and the drivers ended up taking a break at the same place where we were. We were able to ask them about other drivers and so we ended up getting the name of the driver of 263492 (Javier) from Balthazar (26 years with WM), Adam (11 years), and Humberto. Excited, we went into the Corona Friday route and looked for some trucks so we could get more specifics on Javier's route info.
(0:00) - 264024 & 103853: These two trucks were finished for the day, but we wanted to stop for two reasons. First was to ask where Javier was working, and second was because of the fact that these trucks are super rare. The Condor/Leach is from the Chino yard and is driven by Raul, coincidentally an ex-Chino driver. Along with him was Salvador in 103853. This truck looks great because of the dualies and the original exhaust pipe. Beautiful rig. Both drivers are long time employees of WM, having 25 and 26 years of service.
(0:53) - 263907: While en route to where Javier works, we saw some full recycling containers and decided to grab a quick clip of Rudolfo. Fun truck to watch and the Curotto Can I just makes it even cooler.
(2:30) - 263492: After much driving and no luck, we were almost ready to give up when Kevin heard some slamming coming from a gated community. Excited, we turned around and waited for the truck to exit. We followed it to his next area and started filming. Super awesome guy. Javier is a very entertaining, fast, and friendly driver who absolutely loves his job. He remembered seeing us up top at El Sobrante Landfill, so that was cool. If you notice, this truck looks really clean and in great condition. Javier takes excellent care of it and polishes his rig almost everyday (all the drivers knew Javier because of how good he takes care of his truck). In fact, he just polished the wheels the night before we filmed. Really glad we found this truck and I found it really cool how they put a new sticker on it instead of "Think Green, Think Clean". Huge thanks to all the staff of Waste Management of the Inland Empire! Both the Corona district and El Sobrante Landfill have some of the nicest drivers and employees. A huge, huge, huge thank you goes to Kevin as well for driving us around Corona and back home. Thanks to my brother for tagging along the entire day. Made for a super memorable adventure in the Inland Empire.
